Roger Stein on Beyer on Zenyatta

I think this is some pretty amusing stuff.

At the 10:25 mark in the most recent episode (11/14) of the Roger Stein Show ... Stein and his two co-hosts cut apart audio of Beyer from NPR and attempt to blast away at him.

http://www.rogerstein.com/radio/archive2.asp

I laughed pretty hard about how Stein thought Zenyatta was back as far as she was because something was wrong with her. Zenyatta actually ran open lengths faster through the early stages of the 2010 BC Classic than she had in any of her prior races over the last two years.

Another fun line from Stein "Here's the thing I'd like Andy Beyer to do finally. Come forward with your tax returns for the last 15 years. Got 10 million - 15 million that you won from the races? We'll listen to you. Our mighty leader we will listen - and whatever you say - it will be gosphel. If you're broke .. Shhhhuuutttt uuppp"

You also have John Hardoon from the Ragozin Sheets on there - now, I understand that he's doing tout work in So. Cal and he's playing to his prospective customers .. but he's actually the one who I get the biggest laugh from of the three. It's only funnier when you consider the numbers he's using have Uncle Mo's Juvenile faster - and Goldikova's Mile considerably faster.

Gives you an appreciation for real horse racing discussion over Stein who is a hack.

Roger Stein is a freakin azzhole.

I knew some people that had horses with him, and he was as shady as they come.

Lenny Shulman, who a few days earlier had disagreed with me over Zenyatta on Byk's show, cowardly referred to me as an " idiot " on Roger Stein's show.

You really have to wonder what is wrong with these people. Horse racing has always created disagreement among its followers. This is a good thing. It's not personal, how could it be, but with Zenyatta somehow her followers have turned it into a good versus evil debate. It's sad.

I wonder how many serious bettors are on the Schulman, Stein, et al. side of things. I doubt it's many.

Roger Stein............wow taking anything that guy says serious is funny.

The Indomitable DrugS 11-15-2010 04:04 PM

I've listened to Stein's show in the past from time to time - when the living legend Aaron Hesz was his co-host... luckily I was alerted to this piece of comedy through facebook.

MISTERGEE 11-15-2010 04:17 PM

wow, he says "beyer sounds like he just woke up from a drunken stupor", also his guest states " he is out of his mind". Also they rip to shreds his #'s and how they are made. Only item I disagreed with is when they said ZIppy Chippy should not have considered for HOY. OMG, they say listening to beyer will "make you want to go home and beat your children, Beyer is sick". All this because he said Z is not one of the all time greats?

Maybe he was refering to you as an "idiot" in a Boston Red Sox fashion.

To be fair - in hearing the context of what those three had to say - I would be proud if they said that stuff about me.

Stein refers to something being "wrong" with Zenyatta early in the race as the reason she is so far behind as though this is common knowledge. Does he ever clarify what is wrong?

It's OK to admit you were wrong without making inane comparisons.

Those stats are totally irrelivant in this discussion. When further examining the races that Horse "A" and "B" ran in, I would think that horse "A" would have been 20: 20-0-0 in those races, where I can't be sure horse "B" would have been 13: 9-2-2. This is just getting beyond ridiculous now.

well when you look at who won when the two raced against each other..

Exhibit A

My actual opinion: Both horses are fairly equal in ability, though using different racing styles.. both very nice horses. And nobody would rank Blame in the top 50/100 of all time.

race dynamics... a decent speed horse getting away with a slow pace.

Plus, he's going to be HOY anyway.

The pathetic part is that the four horses you just named could beat the fields that Zenyatta beat running backwards.

Not to mention being wired twice by 2 horses who would be called good, AT BEST. Funny Z never got wired. Pace was against her many times, lone speed and everything, she always ran them down.

Duvalier 11-15-2010 05:40 PM

Face it brah...neither of them raced against anything special

Come on dude.

Come on, Gio Pointi just isn't that good, and and he's a turf horse anyway. Mastercraftsman???? Seriously? Summer Bird was better on dirt and probably could have won last year on dirt. You can't make a case for Zenyatta based off a pro-ride win over Summer Bird.
