For those of you who slammed him last year...
... was Trevor better this time around?
|
I heard the race on the radio and did not see it till after but I hated his Classic call. Too much emphasis on Zenyatta IMO. Just call the race and tell us what is happening, not what you want to happen.
|
I've said it already, I thought this was he best performance overall doing the BC.
|
Sorry MaTH - wasn't around this weekend and haven't yet caught up on every thread!
|
I thought he did very well. I'm not particularly fond of the timbre of his voice, but he was accurate in calling the races. I didn't notice any mistakes.

He did a nice job, but then again I really don't pay a whole lot of attention to a race caller.

I could hear Collmus say "There off" on the undercard and that was about it. I felt like I was at old school Keeneland. |
i don't care for denman at all. i don't like his 'and away they go' growl, i don't like his 'scraping the paint'...he's just not a fave. his zenyatta over and over was ridiculous. it was bad enough that they completely ignored the horses walking over, saddling, etc..but for the race caller to only talk about her? i had to figure out who was where, he was no help at all.
if it was between him and battaglia, i'd pick him. but i'd rather any one of several other callers than him. |
ZENYATTA...ZENYATTA...ZENYATTA...ZZZZZENNNNYAAAAAT TA... ... blame

I thought he was pretty awful in the Classic, but did well otherwise.
|
I thought he was fine, except the Classic might be the single worst race call this side of Bobby Flay's call at Saratoga.

I particularly enjoyed "California Fag."

I really thought that there was nothing wrong with the call. My only critique would be that he was a little slow to call Blame getting to the lead. But he was probably looking to see if Zenyatta was able to get clear to the outside.
I didn't think it was overkill, especially early in the race when it looked like something might have been wrong. When your 19-19 4/5 favorite (and the main focus of most of the mainstream World) is 16 lengths off the lead early it warrents maybe a little extra attention. The stretch didn't bother me early, I'm guessing Trevor had an idea how he probably wanted to call it, and for a sec it looked like she was going to get by. Was it a little anti climatic at the end with Blame's race getting shortchanged a bit? maybe. But I really believe that there was nothing wrong with the call and I'm on record as not liking Trevor at all. |
