Goldikova horse of the Year?

Why not I ask..... well deserving after her performance.

Indian Charlie 11-08-2010 01:25 PM

1. Blame
2. Uncle Mo.

Those are the only two possibles, and really, it doesn't go beyond #1.

tector 11-08-2010 01:28 PM

I love Goldi as much as anyone, but I don't think the US should be giving out HOY awards to horses who run here once. It sends out the wrong message about how we value our own races. YMMV.

my miss storm cat 11-08-2010 01:30 PM

I know that she can win it and God knows I wish Zenyatta would get some special award but no... Blame is HOY.

The HOF as soon as she is eligible is not bad.

Smooth Operator 11-08-2010 01:32 PM

I don't get the goat reference man. Why do you keep saying that?

slotdirt 11-08-2010 01:44 PM

Lots of goats win three Breeders Cup races, so I really see how Smoothie came up with the nickname. Makes perfect sense.

She's the greatest, but I'm not in favor of giving it to a horse that ran once this year in the US.

Shes is great, and Im really happy she is running next year.
With that said, I would give it to Blame, Uncle Mo, Zenyatta and even Quality Road over her. Its a year long award, right? So QR Met Mile, Donn and Woodward have to be worth more...

tector 11-08-2010 02:22 PM

To be fair, if the connections of Zenyatta just wanted her to win 3 BC races, she almost certainly could have. Does anyone doubt she could have taken the Ladies Classic this year?

Goldikova's accomplishment is taking on the best of either sex, whenever, wherever. Used to love Ouija Board for the same reason, but Goldikova does her one better.

I know facts and bets are your kryptonite, but Goldikova is a group 1 winner going 9 furlongs and was beaten 4 lengths by Zarkava going 1 5/16ths. She's better at a mile, but it's not as though she can't go a little farther.

Another fact...Zenyatta has won ONE 10 furlong race.

lol

smartbid09 11-08-2010 03:05 PM

Hey Da Hoss. Get it right.

Zenyatta was better in defeat than Blame was in victory. The race you use against her is like holding Slew's gold cup against him.

Ask Haskin. He'll tell you.

What are you talking about? I'm not holding any race against her. I thought she ran huge.

But she was not better in defeat than the winner. I don't care who says it.

smartbid09 11-08-2010 03:27 PM

Really? Well for someone not holding it against her nice profile pic:)

Thanks. I see it's serving it's purpose.

smartbid09 11-08-2010 03:33 PM

Thanks for admitting you're holding it against her?

Again if that's the case you're showing her at her finest:)

Thanks for calling the profile pic nice. After the race I said nice things about her. She's a very, very good horse.

What else do you want me to say?

smartbid09 11-08-2010 03:45 PM

Nothing but you don't have to gloat about her only winning one 10 furlong race.

They should create a HOL3Y and give her a pretty trophy and some chocolates.

I am assuming Proviso will be champion fm turf horse based on her four grade 1 wins........or does one win trump the entire season in north america?

I may be on a different page to everyone regarding how the horse of the year works, but who was the best filly or mare to run on turf this year in North America? It certainly wasnt Proviso!!

Goldikova got the Eclipse last year with just the 1 race in North America. This year she got 5 G1s including the BC Mile, a G1 placing, and she beat Proviso. No way does anybody else get Champion Female Turf Horse, especially not with Goldikova getting that 3rd BC race. The acceleration she has is just crazy impressive.

Your going to have to educate me on the north american races other than the Mile.

Last year there was not a filly like Proviso who ran off 4 straight grade 1's at all the prestigious middle distance races at 4 tracks in tis country and beat males at Santa Anita.

I agree with you....and I love Goldikova and don't have a great affinity for Proviso.

I love the Prince.....I just think its an accomplishment based award and not based one one race. Where have I heard that before?

The bigger question is Champ turf horse...its not like Gio Ponti did much winning and I guess maybe there is another race like the Hollywood Turf Cup out there for Champs Pegasus to try and win but it was a horrid division.

How about Paddy O'Prado? I know he won restricted races, but so have HOY winners, and you could argue he has the best overall turf resume among males.

I have no problem with him winning, its just historical perspective that makes it very messed up.

Winchester deserves it over POP.

The Usual QT.

Oh, that's right, his trainer prevented that.

You were my next guess.

A wop is a derogatory term for an Italian American. It means without papers. I'm not sure why that is insulting, as who wants to have papers like some fancy dog?

My father has papers.

I have no clue, he was born in Italy... Came over via boat. Has stamps on his arm to prove it.

lol

another tidbit of irony that occurred to me....back when another horse was making her first start at 10f, and came in second, we heard all about how zenyatta would do at the same distance on the same surface.

lol both get a second their one time on dirt at 10f. you just can't make up stuff like that.

Well can someone please education me on the G1 races Benny the Bull ran in North America when he got the Sprint Eclipse over Midnight Lute, winner of that year's BC Sprint? Oh, that's right, there were none. Not even a G3 win in this country. ML would've won the G1 Pat O'Brien too if not for the trouble with the gate causing him to break badly, but whatever.

Proviso didn't lose by a neck or a half a length. She was 7th to the impressive returning champ. Good luck to anybody getting the Eclipse over Goldi.
