Not that it matters in the long run but I thought the takeout increase occurs later this year in December.

You're right, the increase goes into effect Dec. 26.

Thunder Gulch 09-28-2010 04:15 PM

Are they back on dirt, or is that after the meet?

I hope with this new takeout and extra cash that the owners and trainers are getting that they think about taking care of the backstretch workers......they truly are the ones that make a horse.

they're at hollywood.. cushion track, which is pretty much dirt by now..

Alan07 09-28-2010 06:41 PM

There's 9 races Thursday night, which means last post is 2:15am eastern.

Kasept 09-28-2010 08:52 PM

The opening day card Thursday is very good. 7-10 horses in each of the 9 races including the 8x10x9x10 late P4, and a very nice G3 feature in the Sen. Maddy. Nothing not to like to kick off Oak Tree, sorry... The Goodwood, Norfolk, Oak Leaf, Lady's Secret, Yellow Ribbon, et al over the weekend to boot.

Get with the program folks. Breeders' Cup is in 5 weeks... You have all winter to bitch about lousy racing. (And I'll go out of my way to prove you're wrong about it then too!:p)

0 for 3 your absolutely correct. 62 Horses and 8 Races was for Friday's card.

I'm excited. The 2010 classic winner is running there this weekend.

Vic

your absolutely correct, a poor post on my part. Glad my handicapping and betting isn't as bad.

No worries. I can get on my high horse and be overly protective at times. Sorry. Might be a little tweaked cuz we're so close to Zenny time too.

Coach Pants 09-29-2010 12:12 PM

plus the crystal meth doesn't hurt.

Meth and spelling were always my worst subjects in school.

It must be exciting getting ready to call the Queen's romp on TV nationwide! It will be all of our pleasures to tune in to ESPN and here the wonderful calls of a true professional... KUDOS on what will be a great and memorable day..

my miss storm cat 09-30-2010 07:19 PM

I'm starting to think I'm the only one excited about tonight.

Was gonna post my stellar  picks on the Sen Maddy thread but I'd be as alone there as on (all) the Hong Kong thread(s) so will do it here.

R1 - Fire in the Wind
R4 - Seven Point One
R7 - Terrify

I've sucked lately and so am doing win bets only tonight and only on these three races (too many good ones this weekend so will wait till then to go broke).

Does anyone else have a damned pick for tonight?

Is anyone else excited?

I said this on the other thread but will repeat myself... can't wait for Race 4. It doesn't take much to make me happy and these are some really nice old guys ijn that one. I think Seven Point One wins at really good odds.

Okay, I'm done with my soliloquy. :D

Dahoss 09-30-2010 07:23 PM

So the Oak Tree meeting opens on a Thursday night and first post is 10:05 on the east coast?

Who is the genius behind that?

my miss storm cat 09-30-2010 07:24 PM

Well yeah, there's that...

I'm going to watch the first few races to see how the track is playing, but I was interested in a few horses.

3rd- Nikki'sgoldenstead
5th- Teenage Dancer
6th- Big Shot Syd
7th- Pirate Bounty

Yeah, what's wrong with that?

Just seems counterproductive to do it on a Thursday night, while having regular post time on Friday.

ranger5830 10-01-2010 02:08 AM

Total handle for 9 races: $3,944,705. Total handle on 9 races opening day at Oak Tree Santa Anita last year was $6,729,164, so this year was a 41% drop from last year, certainly doesn't bode well for California racing. I wonder how much of it was because people (like the OP in this thread) thought the takeout increase was already in effect, and how much of it was that half the card happened after midnight eastern? Either way, I doubt we see a whole lot more Thursday night cards.

Very excited about calling the race ontrack, intertrack and on TVG. Larry Collmus will be calling the race for ESPN. Go Zenny!!!!

100% time of races for me. Although, I normally will tread lightly the first couple days of a meet, I was in bed before the first race ran.

Watching the replays now.

I figured it out.

It was actually a favor so you'd adjust more easily to staying up to play Japan (Sprinters Stakes!!!!!), :)
