World Equestrian Games?

Soooo I have to go to Gulf News to hear about this?

http://gulfnews.com/sport/horse-raci...-race-1.687477

If anyone wants to tell me a little about it that would be great.

Had no idea anything like this existed here.

Sightseek 09-25-2010 08:11 PM

I have a thread about it on the other forum, but it's mostly about the eventing and Freestyle Dressage. :)

I just rode a reiner at the aqha demonstration ring. It was awesome- you send the horse at a full gallop then 20 feet from the fence just give him a little tug and a whoa and he does the slide stop. Best feeling I've ever had on a horse!

One of my friends here does that, he loves it.

I have a nice 8yr old reining gelding for sale. You can do this everyday on him. Reining is great, but Working cow is where it is at. You get the reining pattern and then go run as hard as you can and turn a cow down the fence. Nothing better. Here is a friend of mine riding him brideless:

I started riding horses about 6 yrs ago because my wife had horses and got to ride a reiner. I now show reining and working cow horses and ride more than she does. It is an adrenaline rush, especially the cows.

Wow, I just read that the woman who won the endurance event (100 miles) gave birth 7 weeks ago.

clyde 09-28-2010 11:45 AM

Merciful Mother of God!!

What are they talking about!!?

my miss storm cat 09-28-2010 06:05 PM

Gracious in defeat... for anyone who wants to listen (it's very very short)...

They're pretty good.

I gave it a 74..not real danceable.

And it was very,very short.

Sightseek 09-29-2010 07:52 PM

Steffen Peters and Ravel took the individual bronze in Dressage!

chucklestheclown 09-29-2010 11:54 PM

Former Finger Lakes claimer, Courageous Comet, is in 5th going into the cross-country portion of the Eventing competition. Go OTTBs! :{>:

Riot 10-03-2010 05:46 PM

I've been lucky enough to be out at the HP for the games almost daily.

Totalis is beyond stunning in person. Ravel was, too! :tro:

Sightseek 10-03-2010 05:53 PM

It really is too bad Courageous Comet had to miss the last day.

Was that the American horse that missed jumping today due to minor injury? Was in 3-4th after X-country? I don't know how many didn't pass the vet today.

The hardest line today was 6 to 7. 7 was a simple airy gate, but the setup to 6 had to be right on after the right turn, as it was then a "short steady, short steady, medium-medium-medium" five-stride sequence (you could not fix 6 in, and a regular 5 couldn't fit, either!) that unfortunately got some good horses. If I remember right it got Karen O'Connor a shocking refusal with a knockdown - she steadied and for a second the horse tried to steady for a third stride, then realized he was three away and tried to go on, but was too far, so (wisely) had to simply stop. A bit of confusion between them, a shame!

I saw that NBC televised some dressage today - next Sunday 4pm they are televising the XC jumping from today, looks like.

Yep, threw a shoe during the cross-country. Comet was a former Finger Lakes claimer turned Eventing Superstar! He was won Rood and Riddle's Sporthorse of the Year.

Real pretty horse:

What a shame! Nice pictures, thanks for the links. I don't pay attention to 3-day much (although I'm old enough to remember Bruce Davidson - the original :) as a young man. And Michael Matz starting out in the jumpers! :D

Today people were talking about a minor strain, just enough to not pass the vet, fortunately - but how awful to be out after doing such a tremendous job first 2 days!

Stadium finals were pretty awesome tonight. Big crowd and good performance. Took some pics of the racing-related jumps on Thursday- I love the Churchill twin spires jump.
