When you pay $2 million for a gelding you'd think it would matter. Don't forget, this is the outfit that started Girolamo in one of the toughest Grade Is year in and year out off of a 10 month layoff. Something to be said for consistency.

The saddest irony is that there is a very good chance he would have won this year's Kings Bishop as it played out.

Did you notice Capowino, who won for them in the Spring/Summer at Belmont was also a gelding that they bought after his debut?

my miss storm cat 09-19-2010 08:54 PM

Great title! :D :tro:

Dahoss 09-19-2010 09:02 PM

It really is sort of mind boggling. They buy him, ship him off to Dubai to run in a turf race routing, then give him a schedule that makes Zenyatta's look ambitious. Weird....

Yeah, another sterling purchase. He must have gotten hurt after that incredibly impressive allowance win at Belmont in June.

The Pennsylvania Derby probables right now are Trickmeister, Exhi and First Dude. In addition to having 0 graded stakes wins among them, they also all seem to be one-dimensional frontrunners. What would keep someone from trying a horse like Tahitian Warrior against them for a million dollars?

NT

blackthroatedwind 09-19-2010 10:06 PM

It's almost as though they don't want to get Graded wins because he's a gelding.

hockey2315 09-19-2010 10:12 PM

Maybe they're so humiliated by the fact that they bought the horse w/o realizing he was a gelding that they don't want to bring attention to it by winning a race that matters.

Why they bought him in the first place is beyond me. It just makes no sense considering their operation. But considering the half-joking, but half "wait a minute" comment...it does cause reason for pause.

Or maybe not...it just doesn't make sense.

I know they've made some silly purchases in the past...but really?

Indian Charlie 09-19-2010 10:16 PM

They employ Harty and Suroor.

Nuff said.

I doubt those two have 1000 functioning brain cells between them.

my miss storm cat 09-19-2010 10:17 PM

It's not like they don't have quite a few geldings...

Age of Reason, Whispering Gallery, Sabotage, City Style, Highland Glen... there are others.

Just sayin...

(I think Sugar Ray is one) (?)

Figureheads or not, braincells or not...a whole bunch of big wins between them.

And a whole lot more spent. . .

That's like saying PG1985 is a great bettor because he's cashed a few tickets.

Please tell me you aren't serious about that post.

If you are serious, that is epic stupidity.

If by not seeing an opinion out of me you mean an opinion on every possible subject or race, than yeah, you got me beat.

tjfla 09-20-2010 09:53 AM

I read somewhere that he was suppose to go to the Super Derby however someone made the decision that he should not run any 2 turn races this year:confused: Makes 0 sense but thats GoDolphin. In fact he wasnt even nominated to the PA Derby just the Super Derby

They hired Betsy to pick the spot for Tahitian Warrior.

tjfla 09-20-2010 10:47 AM

or maybe this field scared him off:D:D

Super Derby Probables

Golden Moka-- Might go to PA Derby
Apart
Coyote Legend
Distorted Economy
Monsignor
Hurricane Ike
Wando Redd
Ricky Tick

Do owners not realize they are paying a nice purse for the race?

Has Ricky Tick turned into a racehorse? I took him off my stable list when he was a slob but he has had to turn it around to be in a race like this. He is a 3/4 brother to our horse, Prospect Knight, who is running at Philly on Saturday in a maiden claimer 40k, with a FIFTY ONE THOUSAND DOLLAR pot!!

PP's for the Super Derby nominations

http://equibase.com/premium/eqbHorse...0100925-495039

Nope, he hasn't turned into one yet. Connections were way unrealistic after he broke his maiden at FG when they didn't sell him for reportedly high 6 figures, and continue to run in bad spots, he is probably a high level claimer.

tjfla 09-20-2010 12:53 PM

Beside Golden Moka it looks like a claimer race LOL

Golden Moka is going to the PA Derby, at least he was last week.

He didnt beat anyone beside Coyote Legend, ok maybe not a claimer but only reason he is even in the race is cause he won the Prelude

Ya thats where I thought Golden Moka was going to but stakes guy in LA Downs mentioned Golden Moka and since First Dude and Exhi are going to PA Derby I am guessing he is going down there.

The 2 races are exactly the same other than the PA Derby has FD,Exhi, that IEAH superstar, and maybe Afleet Again-LA Derby has Ricky Tick and Apart. Where would u wanna run?

Its possible they changed, it is all up to Rene Douglas, he manages the whole thing.

Kudos to Rene for keeping Anthony Stephen aboard, word is that every jock reached out to Rene asking for the mount and he let Stephen keep the mount.

They went to the Super Derby it looks like, he was not entered today. That sucks because I was suppose to go with them to Philly, and our horse got in that day.

Cant really blame them. It is alot easier race then the PA Derby. I thought it was gonna be First Dude to Super Derby but Romans likes him up there and Golden Moka to PA

Good move for the connections tho and should be a easy Fave with a jock that knows him

But did you watch the race?

I thought Apart's performance in the Prelude was nothing short of spectacular, considering the trip. I'll have to check the sheets, but his number should have been huge. An up and comer for the Blame connections.

PatCummings 09-20-2010 03:05 PM

And for what its worth, Parx could have had the same 7 horse field they have for $500k than $1 million.

PA Derby...

Exhi
Severe Weather
Afleet Again
A Little Warm
Morning Line
First Dude
Friend or Foe

That's it - no Trickmeister. The overnight is out.

blackthroatedwind 09-20-2010 03:13 PM

It looks like a good spot for Severe Weather.

Gotta love IEAH lol
Since they got him and all they have done with him is duck 1 big race(Travers) after saying he will wire the field and run FD into the ground. Then after 10 mins after winning a joke of a race, they announce he is going to the PA Derby. Well maybe there is a nice 4 horse allowance race he can run and win instead

Not to bad of a race tho. Odds should be nice

Rudeboyelvis 09-20-2010 03:39 PM

Back to the Belmont race for a second - Groomedforvictory in the same race for the 75k tag. I believe this is the first he's been offered, and can more than factor into state bred stakes esp @ at BEL.... my guess is that they're out of conditions, there's not a whole lot in the book for him and he's ready for a start.

What are the chances he gets a slip dropped on him Wednesday?

blackthroatedwind 09-20-2010 06:13 PM

It's been quite a year for Godolphin. They have ZERO Graded Stakes wins in the US and just seven total wins...and only 4 Group 1 wins overseas.....three of which were in Germany. $12 million in purses worldwide.

Honestly, that would be like the Yankees winning 37 games.
