#1 Money Burner

I had to LOL when I heard who moved to the top of the all time money burner list.

Who is the best money burner?

Port Conway Lane 09-05-2010 11:18 AM

Horse,jockey or trainer ?

RA has to be in the hunt here. Hasn't she lost multiple 1:5 1:10 races this year ?

I've never heard of a horse who is 14-11-3-0 lifetime in two-turn route races called a money burner. She also paid $27 to win when she broke her maiden.

She was 0.45-to-1 in the Personal Ensign - Life At Ten was 1.85-to-1 in there.

When I think of money burners - I think of horses like Nationalore who was 0-for-26 lifetime but was in the money in 5 different stakes races - including the Breeders Cup Juvenile and a 3rd beaten 2 lengths to Real Quiet in the Hollywood Futurity. He would always suck up and pass the quitters in those fast paced stakes races. Drop him back to Cal bred MSW races - and his "class" would never show.

Port Conway Lane 09-05-2010 02:33 PM

Thousands of maidens are money burners. Then there are high profile races that are memorable because of the beaten favorites. Arazi made his mark in two big events but didn't race enough to be the all timer.

Then there are the 4-6 to one shots who consistently suck up like Dollar Bill. I would guess a horse like Jacques Who will always be near the top of the list.

Is this a thinly veiled Perfect Drift thread?

You could have made a fortune by backwheeling Perfect Drift in exactas from age 5 on. He was at least pretty predictable - Nationalore would run 3rd in back to back Grade 1's than run a flat 5th in a Cal Bred maiden special weight.

Perfect Drift - in his first couple of years - was actually one of the most underrated horses of recent times. A friggen badass horse with a trainer whos incompetence was the stuff of legend.

If some alchemist like Dutrow had PD - instead of a trainer who'd go 2-for-106 at Turfway Park - he probably would have been Horse of the Year at least once. Who can forget Murray Johnson - when this horse was in his prime - threatening to skip the Breeders Cup and instead run in the Melbourne Cup.

Out in SoCal the Sadler trained race mare Black Mamba was a closer that burned some.

Officer was a known to rip you off.

Alex Solis for a jockey to burn your money.

eajinabi 09-05-2010 03:23 PM

Anyone know of a horse who isnt a money burner? One comes to mind - Zenyatta
How much would the parlay pay if you played it on all her wins?

Officer was 6-for-9 lifetime and 5-for-5 lifetime in sprint races. Hardly a money burner

The biggest price you ever got on Zenyatta was her maiden race. She was 5/1.

2nd biggest price was the BC Classic - where she was a clear cut 5/2 favorite.

3rd biggest price was her first Apple Blossom win where she was 9/5.

All very short prices after that.

She's been a generous 1/5 favorite so many times throughout her career.

miraja2 09-05-2010 03:39 PM

Wilko after his BCJ comes to mind.

If ever there was a thread for Doug and his scanner this is it. I am waiting for the obscure Yavapi horse who is 0-15 but gone off as the fave in 9 races. Do me proud Douglas.

Wasn't Nationalore good enough?

0-for-26 Cal Bred who hit the board in the Breeders Cup Juvenile?

I suppose it's a good answer from someone who follows horse racing two days a year (Kentucky Derby day and Breeders Cup day) and has no idea how great Sunday Silence was.

Wilco won the Breeders Cup Juvy and I had him. Isn't that enough? The Juvy is dreadful many years, the Juvy turf just as dreadful. I need to see Nationalore's running lines and odds to give you this one.
