40 Billionaires to Donate Half Their Money

Nice gesture, or demonstration of the socialist/communist/Marxist corruption of the wealthiest in the world? Discuss.

Quote:

40 Billionaires to Donate Half Their Money

Bill Gates and Warren Buffett have convinced 38 other billionaires to give away half their wealth to charity. Gates and Buffett started "The Giving Pledge" earlier this year; it’s a campaign to get the richest people to donate to the charitable causes of their choice, either before or after their death. Others taking the pledge include Michael Bloomberg, Barry Diller, Larry Ellison, T. Boone Pickens, David Rockefeller, George Lucas, Ted Turner, and Ronald Perelman. The U.S. has about 400 billionaires; the 40 who’ve made the pledge are worth more than $230 billion combined.

Well it is a nice gesture to the colleges and medical facilities. I don't know of much humanitarian aid will be shelled out! Will be interested to see the list of donors.....but hats off to them. THEY earned it, THEY can do with it what they will.

I've counted six personalities for her so far but I probably missed 12 others.

I guess it depends on what exactly you mean by "earned."
I mean....David Rockefeller and Ronald Perelman are on the list and they had pretty much "earned" their money once they successfully made it out of the womb.

And Bill Gates and Warren Buffet were self made and worth Rockefeller and Perelman 100X plus. So nice effort but 'air-ball'.

Huh?
I never claimed that everybody on the list owed their billions to inheritance. Obviously many of them do not. It isn't as if George Lucas inherited his Star Wars money.
But I guess I'll congratulate YOU on nicely refuting a point that nobody made.

Rockefeller is probably worth more than everyone else on that list combined.

Think about that family and their history, and ALL of their holdings. They practically control banking, oil and a big chunk of pharma.

They have no remorse, and the donations have nothing to do with making nice.

and they were taxed out of their money like the Walton family in a generation or 2. Hard to pay 50% per year to the IRS and stay.

Neither do the scum that have lived off their (billionaires) taxes for the past, couple generations. When you, Yor mom, and grandma never had a job it's time to re-think your position of being with child and ABORT! IT'S YOUR RIGHT!

Try that as a monetary policy.....

I just want out of subsidizing your bum knee and multiple mental problems. Just pay your own insurance, shut up and fight the courts. Why bring me and others into your health issues? I'm too taxed with my work out to remain healthy.

I have already paid for my own knee, thanks, and yes, I am still suing the insurance company.

And you have never "subsidized" my insurance.

Really - good luck with your hallucinations.

but w/Obama's new plan I will as you and many more have a pre-existing condition and I don't. Imagine the pigs smoking cigs and eating McMuffins at the local Mc.D's while I jog (bye.) Get it now?

Where is Oprah's name? You'd think she would support this "Hopey Changey" bullcrap after how much she pushed for Obama, whom she called "The One"

No, you won't. I'll still buy my own insurance. As will everyone else with insurance. You won't be buying it. You'll be contributing to the "pigs at McDonalds as you jog by" less than you do now, as they will be able to buy their own insurance and get off our dime.

Get it now? Maybe you should read the law.

And hope to hell you don't blow out a meniscus jogging and get a "pre-existing condition" yourself.

are you kidding me? These people now armed with Dr. letters saying they're unfit to work will file unemployment at the best and work comp/SSI/etc etc etc at the worse. You really don't have a clue about real the real world.

BTW this opens yet another window for HUGE potential fraud and abuse

:zz: What the hell are you talking about?

Wait - please don't even try to explain.

AeWingnut 08-04-2010 08:11 PM

and and and and

I think they way this charity scam works is
you take all your billions put it towards a charity so the gubment can't get their grubby little hands on it and name yourself/ family the chairman of the board and spend all of it as you see fit.

I for the lawyers name but he bought a ton of land in Wyoming. Had it declared a park with him as the steward over the park. No one gets to go there and he doesn't have to pay taxes on his park.

The are so many charities that are corrupt it would make community organizers blush.

I won't even try but what should an uninsured obese heart patient with no family history of such, who requires 100K plus a year in care just to keep alive not mention make well, pay per month in a premium?

I'll be very happy when that uninsured's expensive medical care becomes less my cost (currently 100%), and more his own; and when that person can afford and gets on regular heart meds (not half meds intermittantly so he can afford them), gets nutritional and weight control advice, and gets regular checkups - rather than just going to the ER in crisis situations. I predict the cost of that person's medical care will markedly decrease. As will my contribution, if any, to it.

These people are 25-30. Death at an early age sometimes is a calling. Unless you let me leash them and let me drag them along on a jog, a Dr. telling them they have bad hearts at a cost of 5K for appraisal and a lifetime of nickel and diming isn't going to change anything.

And my 5yr old neice could tell they have health and or heart problems never mind the medical degree

This is what I don't understand about many people's objections to the health care plan that was passed. I think there are legitimate objections to the plan that passed, but this just isn't one of them.
Under the health care system that existed in the United States before the plan passed, people who had insurance paid for medical treatments for those who did not. I repeat....that is how it already was. If you (or others) don't like that....okay. But why act like the new health care bill invented that system or will implement it for the first time when you know it doesn't?

Tomorrow morning go try and make an appointment and say you have no insurance or money. See how that goes. We need to save people in life or death situations with ER rooms no doubt IMO but otherwise plead your case or face your fate.

How wonderful healthcare reform has changed that.

That's funny.

Since the IRS is actually not part of the US govt and is in fact a privately held corporation that's pretty amusing.

Especially since the Rockefellers own big stakes in the banks that own the IRS.
