Bernadini is undoubtedly the best three year old that I have ever seen. I can't see him losing again the rest of his career unless something goes awry within a race physically. Hes incredible.

To continue the thread, I can't envision Bernardini having too much trouble with the older horses now, either. This isn't a particularly strong year for them, although maybe LM will give him a little trouble if they both go to the front. Should be a good Classic.

I knew you weren't being sarcastic because you have been talking very highly of Bernardini lately even though you also like BGC. Most good handicappers are skeptical and BGC did have me a little worried. I think BGC ran his best race today. Pletcher indicated that BGC was sitting on the performance of his career and BCG was also washed out a little in the post parade as normal. BCG is a very good horse and he tried his heart out today. Unfortunately for him, he just ran into a great horse.

I'm sorry if you honestly did mean it, but really.......given that you've thought most of the hype around Bernardini was unvarnished hyperbole, I didn't take that comment that seriously. Also, I wasn't prepared to go that far even after today's performance....I'm just used to seeing sarcastic comments about Bernardini and I reacted to those as much as to your specific one just now.

Well you obviously don't read enough of what I post to know that his last workout completely blew me away and that I said if BC lost, that I wanted Bernadini to win so racing could have a star.
I don't know who didn't realize that i was speaking to a specific person with a history of condoning actions against the US, instead of branding anyone who liked this horse or any owned by Sheikh Mo as a sympathizer. But once again if I don't sit around and monitor how people make things up and lie all day, they tend to get out of hand. Secretariat was a much better race horse than Bernardini ... and he lost twice after destroying the Triple Crown.

Anything can cause a horse to ose a race ... including many non-physical mishaps.

If Bernardini goes into the starting gate often enough ... he'll lose.

he already has lost.

he is aiming for the jcgc, and then no doubt the classic.. and then? he wins he retires.
discreet cat, who has been on hold all summer, is their older for next year. i betcha! bernardini becomes their draw at darley @ jonabell.

BUT

think back everyone...just a year ago.

flower alley won the travers, and a lot of people picked him to destroy older. win for fun...by open lengths, yada yada (kinda like what we've seen the last few weeks about bernardini)...and then HE went to the jcgc.

again, BUT..i will say i think bernardini is much better than flower alley. he's answered one last test in restricted comp...bring on the older!! onward and upward...

A fine racehorse indeed but lets not get carried away here...he went 2:01.60 today, setting a rather pedestrian pace and was clearly better than the field. His one challenger, Bluegrass Cat ran his race and tried to pressure Bernardini but nothing else was a factor from start to finish. Bernardini ran the following fractions: 23.53, 24.64, 24.55, 24.11, 24.77...very workmanlike and more than enough but this was not a real test for this horse! Against older horses, he will have to do more! Can't get a feel for how the track was speed-wise today as all the other dirt races were 7f or less...seemed about average at the shorter distances, grade one 7f went in 121.96, a NW2 Alw in 121.95 earlier. Compare this race with replays of the Derby with fractions of 46 flat, 110 4/5 and a final time of 201.36...different track, different everything...not trying to compare times but Barbaro's Derby was so much more impressive visually to me! Lets not play "New kid in town" here....Bernardini is a special horse and may prove to be a great horse, but he's not better than The Bid and Secretariat, not yet proven to me that he's better than Smarty Jones or Afleet Alex! Right now, I still think Barbaro is the best we've seen this year...lets see what happens in the JCGC and the BCC. One last thing...the horse was 2-5 today...this was not a surprise! He faced one legit G-1 horse and that horse was taken out of his normal running style to provide early pressure....

I don't agree. The Sheikh was obviously extremely excited about Bernardini, so much so that he called in to ESPN. He clearly adores watching his homebred race and he's a sportsman. I think Bernardini will definitely run next year.

he may enjoy watching him, but he enjoys all aspects of horses and racing....
hey, i hope i'm wrong. but like i said, they have discreet cat, and the don't plan for them to face the rest of this year.

Well said Somer. Bernardini impressed me today. He is a damn good horse. But to say he is better than Bid or Secretariat? HUH? I say I want some of what they are smoking! :)

Honestly, I was wondering before the Travers why I am not a Bernardini obsessed person. I think it is because he won the Preakness. My heart cannot get over Barbaro. I think I kinda block Bernardini out. I can only think of that as a reason I am not head over heels for this horse. Does anyone else feel this way?
