89 Beyer (est.) for Starlight debut winner Position Limit

2nd winner in 6th starter for Bellamy Road as Starlight debut colt POSITION LIMIT airs by nearly 7 today at Belmont. Based on runner up Evangelical's 71, it looks like an 89 Beyer for the Virginia bred juvenile (Lazy Lane Farms). Was very impressive and a crazy 4-1 as debuting Toner got overbet.

" Crazy 4:1 " and " Toner got overbet. "

Really? It was a wet track. Perhaps the winner freaked and others didn't handle it.

I bet Toner ends up making the odds look more accurate down the road.

Considering how rarely Toner's horses run well first time out the likelihood that horse only gets better is terrific. Evangelical feels like a horse who's going to still be a maiden around Derby time 2011.

I agree, but for Toner to take that kind of money with a firster, it seems likely it can run.

Evangelical is a bet against forever.

Andy,

Agree the Toner justifies ultimately. Regarding the winner though, I didn't get the sense he simply mudlarked. He pulled himself into the race and was running 'upright' the whole time before really leveling off while pulling away after passing the leader.

Regarding the tote, Pletcher regularly seems to have Jack Wolf's horses ready early. I was surprised by the 4-1.

blackthroatedwind 07-14-2010 07:40 PM

Glad to hear you scored out.

Since 2001 Toner's record with 2-year-olds racing on dirt: 71-0-3-9

So you're saying 8/5 was overbet?

Merlinsky 07-14-2010 09:52 PM

Always fascinating to look at the youngsters. Very hopeful time in a lot of ways--somebody, somewhere has the 2011 Derby winner in their barn or paddock as we speak. Many of them haven't had a chance to break our hearts yet by showing promise only to get hurt or fail to measure up. Here's Position Limit as a sale-bound young'un: http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/v...itionLimit.jpg

I've seen better 8/5 shots.

The dam of that horse has been brutal in debuts with her 3 horses she's dropped so far.

A full sibling to the Toner ran in a 2yo MSW race at HP last year ... and they bet it to 9/2 for trainer Gary Sherlock. That's getting pounded.

http://www.drf.com/drfNCWeeklyHorseD...90702&raceNo=6

The horse ran a dreadful 8th in a field of 9 ... a 60/1 debuter from Richard Rosales barn finished 2nd.

The other foal the dam dropped was an Empire Maker that was beaten about 30 lengths at Delaware Park in its debut for Tom Albertrani.

Maybe the horse can run a lot on the dirt ... but I need to see it to believe it first with something like that.

Believe it or not, Phil, a lot of things in gambling that are successful are counterintuitive.

If you say you understand that, then you are admitting you are ( once again ) saying something you don't believe just to take a swipe at me. And, if you don't.......

Dude, WHAT THE F? I wasn't saying anything to you. Why are you getting upset? Why is everything I say suddenly a "swipe" at you?

Honestly, I had no idea that Toner was that bad with 2YO's and was answering with a deadpan question. I knew it wasn't his forte, but 0-71 is almost hard to believe. You learn something new every day.

Phil, I'm not upset.....as a matter of fact, I find you incredibly amusing.

I gave out Toner's stats and the breeding info on the first two families on the show today.

Spare me that you weren't taking a swipe. Of course you were. You've become like the scorpion.....it's in your nature.

randallscott35 07-14-2010 10:19 PM

Scorpion (foaled February 5, 2002) is a racehorse trained in Ireland by Aidan O'Brien, and owned by Sue Magnier and Michael Tabor.
As a three-year-old in 2005 he won the Grand Prix de Paris (in record time) and the St. Leger Stakes. In 2007 he won the Coronation Cup.
He now stands as a stallion for Coolmore's National Hunt breeding arm.

OK- but I didn't watch the show today, nor did I watch any other races today. I handicapped the card yesterday, and when it rained, all the work was useless so I had no interest in anything today.

And NO, again, my post had NOTHING to do with you. If anything, you're taking swipes at ME right now with comments like calling me a scorpion. Seriously? Why has it come to this?

But your post was unrelated to mine?

Yeah, how did it come to this. Perhaps you losing your sense of humor was the start. But, there is a silver lining, Randall has come to your aid. Your posse is growing.

I know you're more than OK Phil.....I really don't care about this stuff. But, you have allowed yourself to be led astray.

You're reading far too much into this. It's rather narcissistic, in fact. Hell, I didn't even read your post, or the ones after, since I hit the "go to first unread post" button after reading the charts- which happened to be Drugs' statistic. Kapesh?

Let's see what I " don't want to believe "....

You are expecting people to believe you responded with " So you're saying 8/5 was overbet? " but hadn't read the prior posts in the thread ( you randomly started with the one before yours ). What then, pray tell, was the context of your comment then?

You're killing me.

RockHardTen1985 07-14-2010 11:05 PM

Instead of this fighting, how about you tell me what movie you saw? I saw Eclipse for the second time last night.

I was at dinner.

Isn't that the Twilight movie? You didn't really see that....did you?

I saw three movies over my days off......Cyrus, Wild Grass, and The Kids are Alright.

I thought you were very good in Cyrus.

I love Twilight, I'm a big fan of Bella and Edward. I'm going to have to research your Cyrus comment before I respond.

No... you're killing me because you want me to be talking trash in this thread for some reason so badly when the truth really is it had nothing to do with your post before. Just because you want the timeline:

About 6:30: Saw new post from Steve about Position Limit while reading on my iphone, and his comment about a Toner getting a lot of action. Saw a twitter feed about it being a Bellamy Road firster- a sire I have interest in. Mental note to check the chart when I'm done with everything else. Refresh my phone a few times but don't click into any threads.

About 10:30: Finish work and dinner, sit down to do my internet stuff for the day. See the chart from that race. Mental note that the Toner was bet to 8/5, I think wow, he's not a 2yo trainer. Click on Derbytrail again- and there's a few posts in the thread. Click on "first new", and it takes me to Drugs' 0-71 post. I said damn, "So you're saying 8/5 was overbet" in a deadpan, captain obvious rhetorical question- because I know Drugs will come back with something interesting about the breeding if there was actually something (and he did.) Come back a half hour later to see his response and I get this firestorm. Wonderful.

It's actually a really good movie. The Kids are Alright is a great movie.

Not the one about the Who.

The Indomitable DrugS 07-15-2010 12:56 AM

I'm sorry I missed out on all of this.

I drove over to Partners - no hacky sack games with old, old friends from the LP who typically haunt there, didn't even see the goofy photo finish guy from the track .. just a bunch of mostly retarded dudes, strippers, a college baseball all-star game on TV and a bartender who has some solid takes from time to time.

Sat down to tip a very fit, strong, and somewhat flat chested dancer a buck - pretty girl, I saw her do a thing where she leans over and rubs her forehead on the dudes junk .. so I was like 'ah yeah, I'll let her rub her forehead on my junk for a buck' .. but, I didn't get that treatment.

Instead she pulled me in, with authority, to do the whole 'blacken the eyes with boobies' move that is the calling card move for every stripper I've ever seen that has big pillowy breasts or fake boobs .. it was a big time fail and near disaster. I thought she broke my roman nose with her chest muscles. God it was awful.

Phill, this is the Internet ... if you're not looking at porn, the whole point is to find clever ways to call other people 'stupid fag'

Boards are no different than the WWF. You're here to hit other charachters over the head with steel chairs. The technical on-topic stuff is important to put on a good show. We don't want some hapless chubby kid whos bet on races for a year or two to log in to this cesspool and think he can waltz to a title bout in the Pontiac Silver Dome ... but at the end of the day, it's all about Hogan dropping the leg and getting the pin. We are all the Hulk when we come here.

If it ever gets to the point where you feel there is a poster whos intelligence and sexual orientation you're affraid to call in question ... just call it a career and retire from posting. Dedicate that extra time to your wives pillowy breasts. Make sure those puppies recieve all due respect.

Scorpion sucked in the BC Turf. I think I actually bet him too.

And was there ever a worse grade I winner than the American-bred Scorpion, trained by Lukas to win the 2001 Jim Dandy (when Congaree got hurt during the race).

Sutra is the worst Grade 1 winner in history.
