RIP Kip Deville

After a lengthy battle with laminitis and several bouts of colic, Kip Deville, winner of the 2007 Breeders’ Cup Mile (gr. I), took a major turn for the worse this week and had to be euthanized at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Ky. June 11.

that is such a shame. he fought for so long, you hate to see it end this way. what an awful disease, laminitis has claimed too many. everyone references barbaro these days, but secretariat succumbed to it as well. toussaud fought it for years.

Arletta 06-11-2010 05:00 PM

Oh wow.. :(

Rip Deville

RIP fella. This is a sad day. :( I've always been really fond of Kip, and it's hard not to well up thinking about how sneaky and underhanded laminitis is, to take horses like this away from us. We gotta beat this thing.

Add Affirmed to the list of horses euthanized as a result of laminitis. He had a dislocated joint that was repaired only for the insidious disease to set in.

RIP to one of the worst pedigrees to ever win a BC race, and I mean that as a compliment.

LARHAGE 06-11-2010 06:39 PM

I was sad to hear this, poor horse fought so long, as someone who has personally battled the rollercoaster ride of laminitis I know too well the heartache, my condolences to the connections.

mclem0822 06-11-2010 06:51 PM

:( The was a tough horse, who gave everything he had even in this fight to live. RIP

Poor guy. I am sure MMSC will find a better link than I could.

This is such sad news. Just yesterday I listened to Steve Haskin's podcast and the last question he was asked was about Kip Deville's condition, and he said that he had heard that Kip had taken a turn for the worse. My heart really sunk at hearing that. He had shown such determination and strength, and I'm sure we all had hopes that he would someday be able to lead a normal life.

He had the heart of a champion. Run free, KD.

A true champion who did more for Okie breds than anyone. RIP fella.:tro:

I believe I had a post deleted too. Whatever; his death is really a tragedy to me and we have lost a GREAT horse.
