charlie haywoods marketing strategy- "if we keep the players from coming here think of the money we save on soap and toilet paper in the restrooms"

the_fat_man 05-30-2010 10:56 AM

RIGHT: with online wagering and too many tracks to keep track of, let alone play, my PRIMARY CONCERN is how many 'idiots' showed up at BEL yesterday. If I'm not a physicality handicapper or I don't depend on shoe or barn info for my wagering, I'm doing my work out of my house.

What's the highest Beyer by a 3-year-old filly this year? Devil May Care?

Honestly Ray? You have to be kidding... Who cares how many show up? This is a chickenschit comment. As I said the other day, do a virtual attendance, because that's all that matters. There's more people than ever 'attending' the races from all over the country.

Here's the complete figure picture from yesterday...

Belmont Park Attendance: 6159
Mutuel Pool: $1,310,208 ($212.73/patron)

ITW Mutuel Pool: $2,793,558 Using the $212.73/patron figure = 13,131
ISW Mutuel Pool: $8,184,922 Using the $212.73/patron figure = 38,475

SATURDAY VIRTUAL ATTENDANCE AT BELMONT: 51,606

As long as they come on big days and for special events and for the specialty meets, it's fine.

foregos nuts 05-30-2010 12:53 PM

steve- you would have made a great violin player on the titanic... i just hope that more than 10,000 show up to see the best horse in training for the met tomorrow.

Cannon Shell 05-30-2010 01:13 PM

Suddenly attendance is the key barometer again? Did people miss the part where online wagering on horseracing was made the only legal online wagering activity in the US?

The best horse in training in 2010 is akin to being the world's tallest midget. I mean I was thinking of flying in to see the winner of the Amsterdam, Donn and Hal's Hope but then I remembered that Summer Bird who beat QR like a drum a few times last year then was subsequently pulverized by a filly was indeed in training.

Ya thinking PG?

I don't think so. No way he knows anything about violins on the Titanic.

Or would be clever enough for that user name.

Six thousand is not a bad attendance considering the many other things people do on a GORGEOUS Memorial Day weekend. Almost 9,000 yesterday, and I'd bet they see 15,000 today. Very respectable. Find something else to complain about.

foregos nuts 05-31-2010 11:59 AM

The president was seen getting off air force one to play in a pickup game of hoops in chicago yesterday. he must be at arlington park today playing horses, because he didnt show up at arlington national cemetery to pay his respects to our fallen troops today

You just keep swinging and missing.

Danzig 05-31-2010 12:30 PM

then there's the fact that presidents preceding obama haven't been to arlington cemetary every year either....

Just over 9,000 people showed up to see the number one draw in the industry and that doesn't count on steve going past the turnstiles 30 times just to beef up the attendance. In the immortal words of the great scholar and ex ny knick Michael Ray Richardson-"the ship be sinking"......

randallscott35 06-01-2010 07:50 AM

On track attendance is meaningless to me. Handle is what matters.

Let me address some of this please ( as in a short time you are becoming one of those " barometer " posters, as you have yet to post anything that has any merit )...

Most importantly, while I respect the use of one of my favorite all time sports quotes, from one of my favorite all time sports personalities and talents, I think the least you could do is spell his name as he requested....it's Micheal...not Michael. Show some respect!

Secondly, Quality Road is now the number one draw in the industry? Really? So, the way you figure it, if you asked 100 random people which horse they have heard of, Zenyatta, Rachel Alexandra, or Quality Road, you think Quality Road would be the most frequent response? Dude, your ship don't be sinking....it sunk.

foregos nuts 06-01-2010 08:36 AM

If you asked 100 random people who the number one horse in training is,99 would reply that they thought horse racing went out with rollerderby.

Alan Goldberg? Dude what are you smoking? Alan Goldberg has a barn filled with 500k, well bred babies that make about 7 career starts and usually wind up winning a few races at Philly Park in the Winter.

I don't know anything about him cheating but him and Richard Santulli have gone on a nice little run recently especially with horses coming off the bench. Right around Preakness day they hit like 4 of 5 coming off pretty significant layoffs. The turf stake he won preakness day was off of a big layoff if I remember but its not like the horse didnt figure.

I guess if Mott goes on a big run at Saratoga again this year he will be cheating too.
