Rumors that the Breeders Cup will make Santa Anita the home site for future Breeders Cup races with the show going on the road part time.

Any truth to this?

I haven't heard these rumors anywhere.

I love Santa Anita but hell... the best BC I went to was at Belmont.

Triple Crown races are over, so it's time to focus on something else and the Breeders Cup wanting a perminate home site is real.

The rumor about Santa Anita becoming the home site is real too.

Other than these discussions, no one knows anything about Santa Anita as a possible permanent site for the BC...

Also, the 141st Belmont Stakes is a Triple Crown event. They run it June 5, so I guess in technical sense, and I'm speculating a bit here, the Triple Crown events many not be over. Has anyone heard differently?

I heard it depends on the plumbing.

I heard that they are hosting it this year.

IMO the current rotation w/BEL CD and SA as anchors is ideal. Each track has their own appeal but you can't beat Cali weather in the fall.

AP was good only because it was in the backyard and I didn't have to brave the temp. seating area.

I love horse racing , but the Belmont has little intrest without a Triple Crown at stake and the numbers show this.

the belmont, imo, is just as important as the travers and other top 3 yo races. it's no lone star derby/penna derby to me. we've had a few head scratchers win (what race hasn't on occasion) but there's no way anyone can say they weren't treated to a fantastic spectacle just a few years back with curlin and rags. that was one hell of a race. yeah, there's no tc on the line-but i recall hearing an analyst on steve's show predict three winners in the three classics...wonder who gets the ny race?

The Belmont is a classic and is part of the triple crown and in that sense, imo, is more important than the travers or haskell. In terms of how much sense it makes, I think its a pretty dumb race.

Why subject a three year old to 12f on the dirt after a grueling spring campaign when that distance is irrelevant to modern racing in the US? Thats not to say that there aren't some really good belmonts run. At the same time, as soon as they moved the jcgc to 10f, it might have made sense to move the belmont in as well.

Dumb race? The thoroughbred was meant to run long distances. I'm glad that in the process of focusing on the wrong side (fast early) they are still recognizing a horse that can run a course of ground and there are still a few breeders out there breeding for distance. Give me a Summer Bird any day over an Eightyfiveinafifty.

Your points are valid. Still, how many other dirt races are run at 12f? And if that is the case, what does it really prove in regard to today's horses? That they can stagger home less slow than the other staggerers?

Heck, they stagger home in the Met Mile nowadays.

i like that the belmont remains at 12f, even when many others have shortened. i find it a shame that others have cut their distance down-it's far more of a shame to me that they have done so, rather than belmont remaining at 12f. i think it's awful that horses aren't asked to do more later in their careers than they are in the spring of their 3 yo year.
