It was the best of times, it was the...
What was your best moment of Oaks / Derby Day(s)?
Your worst? |

Ice Box running second, which lead to the removal of everyones favorite whipping boy here.
That was the worst btw. Best? No Mine that Bird winning. |

In actuality, the best moment for me was standing in our box at CD, waiting for the horses to come out for the Derby, and then - all of a sudden - it finally stopped raining and the sun came out. The worst moment was battling our way through the drunk and muddy hordes when trying to get out of CD after it was over. |

Doubles Parter :$::$:
Atta Boy Roy  |
My worst was when the totes came back 10 minutes before the Derby Post...
|
Just a reminder... this doesn't have to be wagering-related. I mean it could be Blind Luck winning, some horse at some other track coming in last, some stupid Hank Goldberg comment, Johnny Weirs hat, anything.

Two quick stories about that. Dini pacing in the gold room and comes up to me and asked "Do you have a phone account, I want to put 2k on Super Saver" So comedy More comedy was Broke Bill's tall friend who I think is named Jay (the golfer guy), and his friend, put through 2k to win and place on Devil May Care JUST as they broke from the gate. Really hardcore |
Not taking off friday to bet my oaks super bet which hit. Derby day worst was texting my buddy bitching about Borel always winning at Churchilland then not betting him in the Derby.
|
my worst moment...when i realized i forgot to load a moneypak card so i could add $ to my twinspires account. couldn't bet on the derby-that's life.
|
Best - Blind Luck getting up after Arson Squad and Doubles Partner both won. Ice Box getting up for 2nd.
Worst - Warrior's Reward coming up short and General f*ing Quarters. NT |
Worst: Not picking a Derby winner. Again. 0-for-6.
Best: My 7-year-old daughter picking the Derby winner and going nuts over her $2 WPS ticket. She's now 1-for-1!! |
Best:
COMPLETED: 233344XXXXXXXXX CD#11$1 Superfecta4,6,WT,1,2,4,6,7,WT,1,2,4,6,7,9,10,WT,1, 2,4,6,7,9,10,11. What a redboard...no need to call me out on it. Second Best: Watching the video and realizing that my hunch was true...that Paddy O'Prado, if he didn't win, wouldn't be second considering his jockey. Sure enough, ole KD stopped just enough. Worst: Make Music For Me NOT finishing third...what a great problem to have... |
It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times.
Best moment: I'll confess and say that I finally had a Mint Julep for the first time and enjoyed it. Worst moment: Waiting in line behind amateurs at the race track while they tried to figure out how to make their bets. Related to this, I had to sit back and watch as Minnie Punt (27-1) pulled off an upset victory over Straight Story, and despite wanting to box those two for an exacta, I forgot about the race and didn't get the bet in on time. |
Best and worst
BEST: On Friday noontime , I wrote down 4 reasons why SS would win the Derby for a fellow horseplayer: My notes as follows...
1. Calvin Borel...he'll work out the trip 2. Churchill Downs...off track, SS won by 7 in the slop and see number 1. 3. Never been worse than 2nd. BRIS numbers improving every start 4. Price Worst: keyed SS on top in 4 $10 exactas, left Ice Box out. Keyed 4 horses as a backup bet 5$ exacta over key SS..yep had Ice Box in that one! Be dangerous if I could ever hook 'em up!! Hope everyone had a great day no matter what! |
I was at at another track in a stable walking the shedrow feeding carrots to the horses that wanted some .

Congrats on a score you will never forget. |
Thanks - I was wearing a tuxedo, and in a wine cellar, watching the NBC feed and had no clue who was fourth...NTamm relayed the good info to me via phone cause the CD feed had it and NBC took like, six minutes til after the race to post the order.

Wow. But your comment on Paddy is so true...I remember thinking the first time I watched the replay, "really, did Kent not even worry about finishing the race?" |

Congrats, as well. I throw my normal wagering strategies aside most every Derby Day to go after one of those. Very glad some deserving person here got one. |

My worst moment almost 2 days after the derby was reading this collection of fairy tales.
My best moment of the derby was watching LousyGrades actually destroying ant hills on the backstretch. My worst moment of the derby was watching LineOfDavid sink like a lead weight on that same backstretch. Shirley there is a thread dying for the Beyers on SS.....right? |
Worst: General Quarters cost me 3 pick 3's and a pick 4. I was open to the next 4 behind him in that p4.
Best: just about everything else on my 20th Derby in person. |
Wow... congrats Pat!
|
Congrats Pat!

When I was a kid, my home track was Ascot Park in Northeastern Ohio. Gone since 1966. Eddie DeBartolo closed the place. I'll never forget that a year or two before the 1966 closing the biggest odds winner ever crossed the wire first at over 150-1. Tumble Dream Paid $314 something, as I recall. Pretty sure that win and win price can no longer be verified, but I would comment in a documentary about the memory. I was an 8 year getting the ignition for "a lifelong chase of the dream." My BS meter says we have a legit $200,000 winner posting here. |
Worst: Playing a $525 Pick 4 ticket (.50, 1050 combinations) with investors that went 1 for 4. Had Super Saver after missing the first three legs despite going 5x6x5. Probably the low point of my gambling career.
Best: Telling a family friend that she should play a cold Unrivaled Belle-Rachel Alexandra exacta. She won like $30 and I thought she was going to kiss me. |

that's incredible but i never believed that Dublin had a shot to hit the board let alone win guess that's why I don't have $100k oh well let us know what you buy with your winnings. it's always nice to be able to point to something and say, "I won that" |
