dublin has every right to be there, regardless of trainer.

largo1 05-02-2010 09:11 AM

I'm going! I don't even care what my trainer thinks.:D

it's a joke you know ha ha? I know Dublin has every right to be in the Preakness but sometimes ole D Wayne runs them just to be there in the gate. As far as the Caps go it was 1 vs 8 and they choked.

Thats just plain mean!

CSC 05-02-2010 09:35 AM

I would say any of the legitimate speed horses deserve another chance to redeem themselves here, this Preakness is going to be more wide open than others.

The Caps were a dissapointment though I am not sure they would have won the cup with the goaltending they had anyway, Ovie is more flash than substance at the moment. He's a very talanted player however The same thing happened to him in the Olympics where he didn't elevate his game. I'd take Crosby over him anyday of the the week, Crosby finds ways to beat you and he seems to be able to elevate his game when need be. In a way this almost relates to horseracing discussion, where people at times deviate towards flashier horses rather than susbstance.

Ovie is the most talented player in the NHL but he is not a team player, Crosby is, every team he has played on has won a championship. Juniors, Olympics, and Stanley cups. All you have to do is look at the playoff scoring this year who's on top? Though he does other things to beat you, and who can forget the goal he scored on Miller in the gold medal game.

packerbacker7964 05-02-2010 11:50 AM

just messing with you my fellow Arkie. My Wings are not doing much better against the Sharks. What makes me mad is the "we're going to miss the playoffs if we don't get our crap together" then we go 20 and change to end the regular season. But I will say Just another Arkansas Derby runner wins the Derby:D

zippyneedsawin 05-02-2010 11:54 AM

their record after ovie became captain was gaudy, so i disagree about more flash than substance. as for crosby, not a fan. he's talented alright. but i do think some tend to forget that this is a team sport. pens without malkin faded a bit during the regular season.
caps had one hell of a year, maybe next year they'll have a better post-season.

funny tho, ovechkin/crosby is almost like zenyatta/rachel. someone mentions one, only a matter of time before the other comes up.

would love to see jackson bend come out of the derby ok and run the preakness...distance might suit him a little better

randallscott35 05-02-2010 01:32 PM

I can't see Pletch running Aikenite in there against SS.

Monarchos1 05-02-2010 01:57 PM

@derbycontenders tweeted that Ice Box is unlikely for the Preakness.

lemoncrush 05-02-2010 02:01 PM

What about Drosselmeyer?

Interesting to see if Winstar decides to run 2 in that race, or points Drosselmeyer elsewhere.

There's no Peter Pan this year, right? So..unless you go in the Dwyer, there's not a lot of options.

skippy3481 05-02-2010 02:40 PM

U would think ice box would be ideally suited to the belmont...

Buffymommy 05-02-2010 03:10 PM

Guessing that Zito may run Jackson Bend in Preakness and put Ice Box in the Belmont. Ice Box is going to love that Belmont stretch. Won't get 11-1 on him in the Belmont.

Don't mean to burst your bubble but the stretch at Belmont is shorter than Churchill by nearly 150 feet. The turns at Belmont are what go on forever.

Buffymommy 05-02-2010 03:35 PM

Now you have done it. My bubble is burst. I am so sad now. (I meant he will like the extra quarter mile.) Is that better? :)

Coach Pants 05-02-2010 03:36 PM

Seems like he's the sucker horse now. That was a brutal trip and might take the starch out of him for a month or two. No way I take 3-1 or less on him in the Belmont.

tjfla 05-02-2010 03:46 PM

Ya Ice Box will be the heavy fave at Belmont. The horse looked like he could run forever

14 sounds familiar but I'm not positive

NTamm1215 05-02-2010 03:56 PM

If you like Ice Box and they plan to skip the Preakness you ought to cheer heartily for Super Saver to win impressively in Baltimore. Then Ice Box will be a larger price, nowhere near 11-1, but he'll offer a bit more value.

While I thought ice box clearly ran the best race yesterday, I am not that enthused about his prospects moving forward as he seemingly is the type that needs pace help and luck to be successful.

i agree. been figuring everyone will jump on his bandwagon now. people tend to look to closers for whatever reason in the belmont, when in fact speed and stalker types excel in this race. longer distances may well dull his late kick, and if the pace isn't right, he won't get there. i picked him for yesterday because i thought there was plenty of speed up front for him to close into. it's not always the case.

Just a side note, as a YOUNG kid I actually liked that movie. I think it is so funny that it gets made fun of so much now. (It did back then too but I was too young to get it.)

It is going to give us a better price on a horse who doesn't need the pace up front. :)

It's no different than in other sports, you need a championship to elevate yourself to superstar status. Not unlike Pletcher getting his 1st derby, Frankel with his BC...There are the Tom Brady's, Gretzky's and Crosby's that are associated with winning, until Ovie shows he can lift his team over the hump, he will always have that tag of being a great individual player that can win during the season but can he win the big game?
