DERBY NEWS (4/25): Eskendereya out; Lookin at Lucky new fave..

Eskendereya won't go out today again and Endorsement, who was supposed to at least gallop, was left in the barn as well.

D. Wayne Lukas had Dublin work before 6am going 5f in 1:02.4.

TheSpyder 04-25-2010 08:32 AM

Thanks Steve.

Do we still have a sloppy track for today? Turf?

Todd Pletcher will conduct a media briefing at 9:30am to detail Eskendereya being declared from the Derby..

another Derby favorite out?

booner 04-25-2010 09:10 AM

Eskendereya out?

Announcement forthcoming......

Linny 04-25-2010 09:16 AM

This is very disappointing because I was going to play against him.

northeastbound123 04-25-2010 09:18 AM

The string of luck at CD continues for TP

Princess Doreen 04-25-2010 09:22 AM

Bummer news - I personally know a couple dozen people who are not having a good time this morning hearing this news.

Thunder Gulch 04-25-2010 09:22 AM

Wow...two years in a row the perceived favorite doesn't make it to the gate.

booner 04-25-2010 09:23 AM

I was really looking forward to seeing him run. Oh well, at least this didn't happen the morning of the Derby.......

randallscott35 04-25-2010 09:24 AM

Wow and for all the **** I took about this horse and his condition. And he isn't even going to run.

pweizer 04-25-2010 09:24 AM

Terrible news. I thought this was a very special horse and was very much looking forward to his performance next week.

Eskendereya out of Derby

http://www.drf.com/news/article/112471.html

Favorite out again.

slotdirt 04-25-2010 09:41 AM

Wow on Eskendereya. Uh oh on Endorsement. Getting left in the barn on the day of a scheduled work can't be a good thing this close to the race.

ninetoone 04-25-2010 09:43 AM

I think TP's gonna get his KD anyway this year...just a guess.

Hoist Her Flag 04-25-2010 09:44 AM

something says "karma" about the whole Zayat bankruptcy thing. I think he's a good horse.

Nascar1966 04-25-2010 10:13 AM

The Pre-Derby favorite black cloud strikes again. Remember I Want Revenge.

MisterB 04-25-2010 10:19 AM

Maybe 150k earnings might make it after all. Nothing like a Derby full of allowance horses.

sorry to hear this, but, for me it will be a much better betting race now. I liked ESK but was not looking forward to betting 2:1 in a 20 horse field.

I was really looking forward to betting him at 2-1. That would have been a huge overlay in my opinion. Now the race is wide open.

I am particularly sad as I think this horse may have been something special and now we may never know.

It is Wide open now.

randallscott35 04-25-2010 10:26 AM

LAL your new fave. Maybe as low as 3-1 with Baffert in tow.

Arletta 04-25-2010 10:38 AM

What a yucky derby this is lookin' to be. I'm playing #'s, to hell with it.

The other Baffert is really flying below the radar isnt he?

Good point, pace scenario just seems against him.

Fast main track. Good turf.

jpops757 04-25-2010 11:03 AM

Dosnt this make it more likely that more than 1 filly going to the derby? Or does it make sense for the top 3 to cross enter and wait for the draw and then coose the best shot. After all they have invested isnt the extra money a good hedge for them

Slewbopper 04-25-2010 11:03 AM

There are 20 numbers on a dart board. Put on a blindfold and toss one

pmacdaddy 04-25-2010 11:05 AM

That sucks.

Did TP give any indication in press conference on status of Interactif, Discreetly Mine or DMC?

He confirmed that they are all still too slow.

From the remaining 20 horses, who isn't too slow?

3kings 04-25-2010 11:15 AM

As mentioned before, Endorsement's work pushed back.

http://drf.com/news/article/112476.html

Is this a lesser known trainer being overly cautious because of the off track?
Doesn't want to have a mishap and not have a Derby starter?

There is some fairly wide speculation of a problem here. By the time of the Derby-Oaks worker window after the harrow break, there was no 'off track'. It was fine. Ritter walked him briefly and then put him away. And WinStar's Bill Casner was totally evasive when asked about the horse. Let's wait it out, but it doesn't seem likely things are 100%.

Coach Pants 04-25-2010 11:39 AM

Derby is pretty sorry this year.

Betsy 04-25-2010 11:43 AM

Sorry to hear that, but running the filly is just stupid; she has no chance (and I like her a lot).

Only that the Eskendereya situation made Devil May Care a bit more likely to go Derby. He said he wanted to talk to Mr. Greathouse before saying anything too committal.

Of Interactif, he only said he wasn't crazy about the track for him for a serious work and would wait. If Discreetly Mine came up, I missed it.

tjfla 04-25-2010 11:53 AM

Anyone know if Setsuko is shipped in and been working?

He may have a chance to get in

I would love LAL at 3/1 as the fave I think he can easily be beat, now just gotta pick the right horses to toss
