An all timer. RIP

One of the all time greats.

Thunder Gulch 04-09-2010 11:30 AM

The classiest mare I ever saw. The call of the Breeders Cup Distaff final 1/16th stretch is still one of my ringtones.

KirisClown 04-09-2010 11:33 AM

That's too bad..

randallscott35 04-09-2010 11:34 AM

A lot of chalk.

FATPIANO 04-09-2010 11:40 AM

She was Perfection.....RIP

moke0043 04-09-2010 11:43 AM

Very sad....

Holland Hacker 04-09-2010 11:47 AM

What a bummer.

She definitely left behind a bunch of decent runners who should carry her name on in pedigrees for years to come.

Heels1989 04-09-2010 11:49 AM

Without a doubt one of my all-times favs. Very sadden by her passing.

RIP - Personal Ensign

smuthg 04-09-2010 12:25 PM

RIP to one of the great ones...

PeteMugg 04-09-2010 02:00 PM

Watching her win the BC Distaff in '88 is one of my favorite racing memories.

Rest In Peace, old gal.

mclem0822 04-09-2010 02:18 PM

Very sad passing....

:(No doubt one of the great mares of all time, condolences. RIP

tector 04-09-2010 02:38 PM

The BC race was one of the all-time greatest races, concluding one of the all-time greatest careers.

DJARUM 04-09-2010 03:04 PM

They all die, but a great won

LOL
R.I.P.

Hickory Hill Hoff 04-09-2010 04:13 PM

Perfection!

I was very fortunate to see her at Saratoga in the summer of '88. She beat Gulch & King's Swan in the Whitney Stakes. Although it was only a 3 horse field, she beat two of the best colts at the time.....R.I.P. Personal Ensign......you were the best!

Merlinsky 04-09-2010 04:28 PM

Very sad. Everybody with a filly dreams of one this special. She's forever a legend. RIP. :(

Her son, Baronial, is running in the ninth at Mountaineer tonight.

Danzig 04-09-2010 06:13 PM

anyone who was a fan of this great horse knew that this time was drawing near. sadly, none of them last forever. i saw earlier that she had passed, but i shoved the news away til i got home. those of us who had the distinct pleasure in watching her run got to see an incredibly rare sight-i know i enjoyed every one of her races as she achieved perfection. her distaff win over winning colors was one of the best races ever, with an awesome finish by a horse who simply refused to lose. then, she added to her amazing race record by becoming a fantastic broodmare. thankfully she left a living legacy behind, and her descendants will carry on that lineage. anyone looking for another like her most likely will never find one.

not only was her distaff win amazing, she had to close that gap in the slop. imagine, a time when they did not care about the weather. it was part of the game, breeders cup or not. they just don't breed them like they used to. half of the jugheads today would of had to scratch their horse or be making excuses after the fact. or they want to run at same place every year, to avoid getting wet....go figure

And she achieved much of her accomplishments running on a leg held together with screws--a remarkable mare and story ...

Many of us held our collective breaths every time she ran because of that, fearing what might happen. Her retirement after the BC Distaff came as something of a relief.

Super post.

I only saw her run on television.

But, I did tune in when I knew she would be there.

26 seems so young for A Champion.

Even in horse years.

:tro::tro::tro::tro:

Pretty awesome of NYRA to take the time to do this..

miraja2 04-10-2010 01:24 PM

Her racetrack accomplishments were obviously excellent, and it is also cool that unlike many champions she had a nice breeding career as well (broodmare of the year one year I believe). She was always one of my favorites.

Personal Ensign's grandson runs today in The Bluegrass. Could be an omen

Why? Is he named Damian?

blackthroatedwind 04-10-2010 04:42 PM

The videos are being downloaded to the site now. Her Maiden win has already been posted. The rest will be up shortly.
