Good suggestion. Bailey is the best jockey of the last 30 years.:)

Interesting to know who you think is the best in the past 30 yrs

Danzig 04-04-2010 03:39 PM

Join the recent past rather than the history book. The last 20 years...or Jonny Longden...you want to go back to then?:zz: They didn't have DVD's in the "old days"
Baffert obviously thinks highly of Bailey to cite his riding career as an example of a great jockey...THE money jockey. Enough credibility. More than you.

But it wasn't like Bailey was exactly Baffert's money jockey when Bailey was riding.

DaTruth 04-04-2010 06:11 PM

Any chance that the Bafferts, Gomez, and Espinoza can be guests on a single edition of ATR in the near future?

Honu 04-04-2010 06:20 PM

Even if that hole wouldnt have tightened up where the heck did Gomez think he was going , and secondly he was already more than 3/4 of the way up in there he actually put himself and his horse in more danger by checking and pulling out than if he would have just let his horse keep moving. I think Gomez saw that he had no where to go because there was a horse right on front of him so instead of putting the blame on himself for driving up into a switch he checks the head off his horse and puts the blame on Victor.

I think you would probably say Stevens was his guy if any one person was. Baffert always seems to spread around his horses and jockeys seem to fall in and out of favor with him.

Bailey was aboard Captain Steve in the DWC, and Roman Ruler in the Haskell, but I don't remember him winning many other big races for Baffert. If I associate any jockey with Baffert when Baffert was at the top, it would be Gary Stevens.

I agree with you. Don't forget Congaree though.

Gaining Ground 04-04-2010 08:05 PM

bailey rode a lot for baffert on the east coast including silverbulletday.

Baffert also used a lot of West Coast riders when his horses ran on the East Coast. Except for Congaree, I don't know if Bailey rode too many horses for Baffert in SoCal.

the monkey was the man , so was the ant man. i'd take either one over bailey in the last 30 years. i still remember when antley won 9 races in one day and he did not get chocolate bars like bailey got. he was great on the turf and brought in horses at a price. i'll never forget when he saved charismatic at the belmont finish. the horse would of won the triple crown if not for breaking his leg. they were saying he was washed up when he should of won the thing.

You do remember that Antley gave Charismatic a HORRENDOUS ride that day?

He was a terrific rider....but not in that race.

I really think the 2 Puhich horses were in the race to try to get the chalk blocked, and sealed in. Both jocks look to have 1 thing on their mind. The 8 comes right over on top of LAL N' CARACORTADO (and Talamo drifts out a little about the same time.) Then, the other Puhich horse seals them inside. It's a very weird race, because I think some people had odd goals in the race. We've all seen Gomez get stuck inside on chalk. It's still his greatest weakness. This used to happen even more often with him.

yeah, he got caught up in the pace and wide. it seems like the pattern when the triple crown is on the line. santos gave lemon drop a perfect belmont like trip. it was not his best ride but many jockeys have had a case of nerves in that race. day in and day out he was the best though. charismatic was just one of many, many horses he rode that alot of handicappers would say did not have a chance until after the race. following east coast racing and mostly NY, i think he may of been the best rider in my lifetime so far.
