WHat was he doing not on the lead in that second Apple Blossom? Compared to what she runs that half was SOFT. Mike is great, but he always comes close to getting the good ones beat.

Skip Away.

I made my biggest ever bet on him when he lost by a nose at Belmont the day after the BC after his 5 wide trip on the gold rail at the Meadowlands.

A very good horse in Summer Colony beat her in her stakes debut after she had a slow start and was wide on the turns.

She was a VERY good horse but got a tedious amount of hype.

The Indomitable DrugS 03-29-2010 08:39 PM

Correct on both Lure and Skip Away.

blackthroatedwind 03-29-2010 08:40 PM

The ride by Rick Wilson was one of the worst ever in the Cowdin. Rushed up needlessly into the vicious pace.

Gator Dancer won his next race 22 months later.

The Indomitable DrugS 03-29-2010 08:45 PM

The connections thought he was a turf horse ... they were wrong in a big way!! But, he did end up becoming a Grade 1 winner. Name him.

RockHardTen1985 03-29-2010 08:45 PM

What is the Cowdin renamed or did they cancel it? I have never heard of that race before.

I wish that race was on Youtube. I didn't find it. Rick Wilson was pretty brutal at times.

It was unbelievable. He was sitting in a perfect spot behind the duel and Wilson put him in a drive before the half mile pole.

He still lost by a brutal bob.

they must have stopped it 5 or 6 yrs ago. I remember Shannon Uske winning it on the Jerkins horse Smokeume about that time

He holds the title of both BC Classic winner, Dubai World Cup winner, and Steve Crist's #1 rated horse of the decade to not win an eclipse award.

Has there been a horse the last 2 decades that had a better 3 year span than Skip Away?
What an awesome horse.:tro:

Does anyone remember why he didn't run in the '96 Breeders Cup, after his huge win in the JCGC?

blackthroatedwind 03-29-2010 09:28 PM

Yes...he wasn't nominated.

WOW.... you think they would have put up the 5% after running a 115 Beyer in the JCGC.

I think they changed the rules after that year where one supplemental fee was good for life....which is why he ran in subsequent years.

The Indomitable DrugS 03-29-2010 11:26 PM

Was transformed from a nose-bob winner of a nickle claiming race to a horse who gave Cigar a fight while under the care of a highly shady trainer.

Died on the lead at the end. Name him.
