All you can drink at Pimlico

From drf:
Pimlico to offer all-you-can-drink at Preakness

Glad I won't be in the infield

". There will also be a cornhole tournament among local bars"

They are a few years too late. We had that promotion outside of a BBQ stand for opening weekend at Toga back in '07. F*cking 'eh what a 5 days that was. I got a hangover just thinking about it.

randallscott35 03-22-2010 11:28 AM

This will last one year. One.

slotdirt 03-22-2010 11:30 AM

Considering there were about eight people in the infield last year for Preakness, I can understand why they made the change. That being said, all you can drink for $20 sounds absolutely preposterous and, like the old bring all the beer you can carry rule, is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

MaTH716 03-22-2010 11:49 AM

I think it's a terrible idea. All I can think of is that drunk/deranged guy trying to throw a punch at a horse in the stretch.

Does racing really want/need fans that are just coming to the races to get bombed?

yes. It is a Preakness & college tradition.

slotdirt 03-22-2010 12:05 PM

I think every racing fan should go to a Preakness and walk out the same entrance as the infield revelers just to get a really good understanding of exactly what happens there.

justindew 03-22-2010 12:07 PM

Long refill lines. Limited supply of refill beer. Unmitigated disaster.

I can hear the excuses now...."We did not anticipate how popular this innovative promotion would be. We learned a lot from this experiment, and we vow to be better prepared in 2011 for the inaugural running of the Preakness at Gulfstream Park."

from no beer being brought in, to $20 all you can drink....makes perfect sense:rolleyes:

by the time people get to the front of the line, they might as well just go right back to the end of the line, people are gonna get rowdy when they realize its gonna take them 30 minutes for a refill

LOL what exactly is a cornhole tournament?

slotdirt 03-22-2010 01:13 PM

I'm guessing the "bikini" tournament will turn into some sort of Talladega-like infield strip show.

slotdirt 03-22-2010 01:14 PM

Oh, and featuring girls from Baltimore. Run for the hills!

asudevil 03-22-2010 01:20 PM

Natty Bo, hon.

Thunder Gulch 03-22-2010 01:35 PM

I wish all my hangouts were as innovative as Pimlico. :zz:

Will there be a tie-in between the bikini contest and the scavenger hunt?

Scav 03-22-2010 02:26 PM

O.A.R is a huge draw also, you put O.A.R with a 20$ all you can drink area, you are gonna have a hell of a party. And alot of stoned individuals

slotdirt 03-22-2010 02:28 PM

This is Baltimore. They had ZZ Top and $2 beers in the infield last year, and they still drew like 32 people. They might get more folks to come this year, but it sure as shootin' won't be because the locals want to see OAR in concert.

Mike 03-22-2010 02:29 PM

What kind of cheap swill will this be?.

OAR will attract a lot more people than ZZ Top.

slotdirt 03-22-2010 04:06 PM

You clearly haven't been to Baltimore lately. ZZ Top is considered contemporary for the fine citizens of Dundalk, Glen Burnie, and greater Baltimore County. OAR is something you use to dispose of Omar Little's boyfriend.

what he said

classic rock is the home of bmore

-bt-

Antitrust32 03-22-2010 05:12 PM

LOL. College kids are who fill the infield. Not older B-more blues / rock musicians.

slotdirt 03-22-2010 06:15 PM

What "college" do you think the people that are usually in the infield attend? New England Tractor Training School?

Seriously, go to the Preakness once and tell me you think there are legitimate college students lurking about in that infield.

yeah, i was there. during zz top it was kind of crowded, other than that it was a ghost town. . but it was like 60 bucks to get in. thats the problem!!!!!!

I've been to the Preakness a few times, worked in the infield for my uncle (we had a hotdog stand instead of the BBQ stand.. sold like 8 grand worth of $4 hotdogs, unreal). I know a lot of college kids from Maryland that go to the Preakness (or used to, I'm 5 years from my college age now)..

It really is 75% college students.

slotdirt 03-23-2010 08:24 AM

I think antitrust is confusing young Baltimorians with "college students." There is a huge difference. Let's pick out the "college student" here:

Antitrust32 03-23-2010 08:37 AM

lol.. you have a high opinion of people from B-more, dont ya? ;)

I was there for War Emblem, Funny Cide, Smarty, Bernardini... not last year so it could have been different.

Looked like a Saturday Morning frat party for me.. People puking by 8am, girls flashing their tits all day. It could have been fun if I wasnt working.

and thats why i get seats for this event. sat infield at the derby for the last 10 years with absolutely no complaints, but refuse, REFUSE, to pay $50 to rub elbows with them kind of people. Which says a lot, b/c im actually from maryland. In all honesty, its hardly just marylanders in the infield, the worst of the worst come down from jersey, pa, and new york...its an east coast sh!t show

This should be great for telling stories afterward.

Then you better do your handicapping before you get to Churchill because I don't want any slackers in our group. Bar opens at 8am...Too old...gimmie a break.

Rudeboyelvis 03-24-2010 07:00 PM

Can't you buy like 6 cases of Natty Boh for 20 bucks? They're gonna make a killing :tro: :D :zz:

tanner12oz 03-26-2010 03:12 PM

ive been going since Afleet Alex won and last year there was NOBODY there....i have reserved seats on the rail but riding the shuttle in it was like a ghost town...literally 12 people on shuttles that the previous year were standing room only.

by the way the afleet alex preakness was probably my favorite so far.....street sense-curlin duel is probably second.
