Gulfstream 10: Off turf as horses leave the paddock.. again!

Off Turf
1 Mile Dirt

kgar311 02-27-2010 04:48 PM

With 7mtp! what a joke. Theres 150k in wps and ex's already not to mention piks already bet and its a part of the magna 5. Now they have to wait to seal the track? All trainers should scratch their horses out of the race

robfla 02-27-2010 04:50 PM

Unfortunately, they can't control the weather. I just left there and it is nasty out and has been raining steadily for about an hour.

p.s. I have pick 3's alive.

Kasept 02-27-2010 04:52 PM

It's beyond belief. An utter embarrassment.

Bullschit.. It's an "ALL" payout in the P4's, P3's and Double. Anything else would be felonious. And they knew there were thunderstorms coming. I phucking forecast the damn thing at 7:30am for crist sake. They should have taken it off the turf WELL BEFORE the start of the P4 the way NYRA does to give horseman the chance to scratch and players a chance to make decisions. This is at least the 2nd time they've pulled this stunt. The place is hopeless.

kgar311 02-27-2010 04:59 PM

Its SUNNY!!! hahahahahaahahahhahh

No All payout on the exotics. That is unbelievable.

pmacdaddy 02-27-2010 05:05 PM

How do you pay out to that winner in a pk4? That's garbage.

The Indomitable DrugS 02-27-2010 05:11 PM

It's kind of amusing that the eventual winner of the race was 9-0-0-0 lifetime on turf and synthetics ... and his lone career dirt race was a very good 2nd at 13/1 odds splitting a pair of next out winners and running a dirt figure that made him the fields most likely winner on dirt.

Oh, I agree.. I was simply stating that they can't control weather.

I was talking to a friend of mine before the 8th and he liked a horse in the last race, but was afraid they may take it off the turf, so he didn't play the P3. That's when I said to him to look at the clouds and any imbecile can see it is going to rain for a while. Plus with weather technology the way it is, they certainly knew it was coming. Like you said, they should have made the call before the 7th. Unfortunately the rules in New York don't apply in Fla., but they should change it so it does

It's their FL state law and it's happened once already this year and I was reminded of another time 2 years ago by Andy.

It's pathetic. And as I said, felonious.

The tenth race has been taken off the turf. The decision was made with the field in the paddock. That means anybody who bet late pick-3's, pick'4-s, daily doubles and the pick-6 are all stuck with their selections made for the grass. According to track management, the jockeys declined to ride the finale on the turf after returning from The Very One.

2MinsToPost 02-27-2010 05:15 PM

That is a total bs move to the people who help fuel this sport, the last leg 7 mins to post

You gotta conso the players who have spent time capping and played their ticket(s)

Its a great place to visit after my first trip south down 95 a little over a week ago but if I was in person at the track I would be livid

After meeting a few from this board at a local otb here in Jacksonville I went back and played a small 50 cent pick 4 so I only lost $18 and did not have the first leg as I stayed with the 2 as my single but still total bs

Not to get in to the handicapping of the race - because it would be after the fact - but even with his odds moving like that ... I was VERY surprised by the odds on several horses in there and it really felt like the race was being run on turf how it was bet.

I got KO'd in the multi-wins the previous race .. but I think anyone who was alive going into the last race has a right to be incredibly pissed off... especially considering which horse won.

pointman 02-27-2010 05:30 PM

I agree with Steve, that rule is criminal. If I had a live pk4 ticket I would be abolutely furious right now.

I am sure it is because several factors, which MAY be any of the below:
  • people are too lazy to handicap the race again, and change tickets after the switch
  • some people don't care
  • some may not have known ( the P.A. system in some parts of the track suck )

Lots of off track facilities dont play sound of the tracks. Ill bet you alot of people didnt know it was off the turf until they were watching the race live. Can you imagine the surprise of some people when the race went off and they were in the dirt?

randallscott35 02-27-2010 05:51 PM

I simply cannot believe they didn't have all payouts in this. Really awful.

pick4 02-27-2010 05:58 PM

New York is the only other state that I know of that has the ALL going to players in off the grass races during pick 4 and 6's. Hopefully Florida changes their laws and implements one of few good laws that originated from the state of New York.

Illinois has this law also, actually, I should say Arlington has this law because I don't know what Hawthorne does.

It has to be a late change, not an early change.

The Indomitable DrugS 02-27-2010 06:47 PM

There are still no internal fractions posted for the 4th race.

I'll take a listen. It's hard to keep a national audience interested when you have a lot of regional guests on. That's not anyone's fault. It's just the challenge involved. It's mainly a regional sport.

Ya know, people in racing only care about what's going on in their " region. "

Especially during TC time. Why would I want to know where Baffert is running his plethora of 3YOs. Why would anyone in California care about what Pletcher is doing with his. And certainly nobody outside of Arkansas cares about ANYTHING going on at Oaklawn.

Payson Dave 02-27-2010 08:20 PM

Evenin Andy,,, Arn't u suppose to be out with a hot lass or two on a Saturday night.

Extremely thin veil at that.

I don't have racing in my region and I very much care about everybody else's. I'll happily live vicariously through the folks in New Mexico. Bring it on. Every last bit of it.

The Indomitable DrugS 02-27-2010 09:41 PM

I've taken a lot of critiscim from myself for my neglect of whatever region Rillito Downs and Fonner Park are in.

I seriously don't pay enough attention to those two tracks.

No, I'm just saying it's a challenge trying to keep a national audience interested when a totally regional personality is being interviewed. The guy doing the interviewing is great. It's not a knock on him. It would happen to anyone doing a national horseracing show. Hey, if I have to remind myself to listen Monday, then there's some reason for that. It's not a love. It's a like. I like the show.

You'd make a killing at Rillito Park. It's no Del Mar, but there are plenty of hot chicks too.
