Trivia

First 3 career starts for this horse .... name her...

First 5 career starts for this future Grade 1 winner ... name him

Name this Pletcher trained daughter of Saint Ballado ...

blackthroatedwind 02-08-2010 02:23 PM

3 never ran again.

Freedom's Daughter.

packerbacker7964 02-08-2010 02:26 PM

Manistique is the first one. What do I win?

blackthroatedwind 02-08-2010 02:26 PM

I had to rethink #1. Is it that huge horse that failed in the Alabama in her subsequent start.....Manistique?

Yeah - was hoping the Pletcher/Saint Ballado comment would trick someone into saying Ashado... who also won that race in start 2

northeastbound123 02-08-2010 02:27 PM

(3rd) freedoms daughter, Padua Stable

blackthroatedwind 02-08-2010 02:27 PM

If I were to stab on #2 I would say Dominion.

The Indomitable DrugS 02-08-2010 02:27 PM

Yes - Manistique is the first horse.

Back in the day when just about every John Sherriffs ran incredible 1st time out.

No on Dominican. You'll be surprised you missed this one.

Thought I knew something. Was asked a question by the time I answered it already 5 or so posts

Surely less surprised than the fact that I forgot Dominican's actual name.

Cannon Shell 02-08-2010 02:39 PM

Lawyer ron?

The Indomitable DrugS 02-08-2010 02:40 PM

Yes. #2 is Lawyer Ron.

Blocking the rider was the key

I guess I was fooled because he didn't even improve until Pletcher got him.

Yeah - Borel did ride him in the maiden claiming race he lost... but it was McKee in the other 4.

dominion, much better than dominican anyway

miraja2 02-08-2010 02:48 PM

If I am remembering correctly they continued to race him on the turf after those first five races and only discovered he was a dirt horse by accident when a race he was entered in came off the lawn....and he exploded in the slop to win it easily.

The Indomitable DrugS 02-08-2010 02:52 PM

The following horse was 6-for-6 over a certain racetracks dirt course. Below are only his races at that track.

Name both the horse and the track....

hockey2315 02-08-2010 03:20 PM

Sky Jack - Hollywood Park

The first horse that came to mind was simply majestic at GGF, but no, clearly that was not it.

Correct.

I thought that one might be pretty tough - because of how fragile he was.

He had 3 different knee surgeries and two different stomach operations for colic during his racing career.

When he won his debut - Iggy Puglisi rode him and he won at 38/1 odds while racing very erratic. He was off 9.5 months when he won his 2nd of those six HP races - it was a very impressive race as he dueled head to head through 21 2/5 and 44 flat fractions and drew off while still outfinishing closers.

When he won the Grade 3 stake with the 122 Beyer in his 3rd HP race - he didn't race again for more than 14 months after that.

Very underated talent.

I can't claim to have known that off the top of my head - I was like 12 or 13 when he was running and had been to the track exactly one time at that point. . .

The Indomitable DrugS 02-08-2010 04:20 PM

You're only 20 years old? You don't also happen to have a 6yo kid do you?

Damn, I'm feeling old.

Here's the only HP race of Sky Jack I found on You Tube.

22. . . No kids.

I was going to guess Furthest Land on that one, who had a similar journey in the maiden ranks at TP/Ellis if I remember correctly. "Maker Magic" got that one going. Good trick on the Ashado but the giveaway was she didn't start her career at MTH.

The Indomitable DrugS 02-08-2010 04:41 PM

First five starts of career for this future Grade 1 winner....

That one's Kip Deville.

The Indomitable DrugS 02-08-2010 04:52 PM

Yep

hockey2315 02-08-2010 04:54 PM

Way too easy when you see he debuted in a state bred race at RP.

The Indomitable DrugS 02-08-2010 05:14 PM

One of the great chemical .. errrrr claims of all-time. Name him...

miraja2 02-08-2010 05:18 PM

Shake You Down

The Indomitable DrugS 02-08-2010 05:21 PM

Yep. That horse was spectacular for a year.

You made it too easy by leaving a date in. I think you're slipping in your old age.

The Indomitable DrugS 02-08-2010 05:30 PM

It happens.

Here's a tougher one ... her promising racing career only lasted for four races. Name her.

hockey2315 02-08-2010 05:39 PM

Lotta Kim, dam of Rachel Alexandra.

That link doesn't show his final few years.
