Haiti
HUNDREDS of thousands dead?? HUNDREDS?...Good god
|
Where did you hear that number from Bob? NYTimes reporting thousands, but not hundreds of thousands.
|
Drudge reporting up to a half million dead. Think we can all agree on Obama sending aid and supplies NOW!
|
Terrible. Good thing we're sending what we can down there.
Numbers I'm seeing have it upwards of 100,000, with no way of knowing yet, but people there saying it could number into the 100s of thousands. |
probably over 100 thousand easy! Kinda puts all the healthcare reform BS
into perspective,doesn't it? |
When I was a kid. We went on a cruise of the Carribean. Haiti was one of the ports we stopped at. I can honestly say that it was one of the scariest, pooriest and most horrible places I have ever been. I couldn't have been more than 8 years old and I remember being petrified that we were going to miss the boat out of there. They (people on the cruise) warned us not to give any kind of material worth to anybody. And then went on to tell the story of a tourist feeling bad for a young bare footed boy with bloody feet. The tourist gave the young boy some money and bought him shoes. Supposedly (This was the story they told everyone) the boy was killed for the shoes. I also remember everyone begging for money, like the streets were lined for blocks with people begging. It was just a ver sad and scary situation.
Fast foward to today, I can't even imagine whats going on down there. These people have nothing to start with and if possible they have even less today. Just terrible! On a side note, is anyone (mostly people on the East Coast) all of a sudden giving a little thought to a major earthquake closer to the East coast? Usually this stuff happens out west and making me think if the East coast could be vulnarble to a major quake. |
There is a fault the runs thru the Midwest (New Madrid) that is supposed to be overdue for a BIG quake. Not something I want to deal with. Tornados are bad enough!
|
I dont know if there is any scientific reasoning behind it but the earthquake section of my KY house insurance went from $38 dollars a year about 5 years ago to $112 this year. Wasnt that long ago we had a minor quake early in the am that we felt.

Now, why does this guy not first go ask his friend Beyonce to give the first 10 mil? She made 87 mil last year, and her husband made 30 some odd million. What about Usher? He has so much that he was willing to leave a million dollars of jewelry in his car. What about Donald Trump? David Beckham made 40 mil last year for doing f'n what? What about each Goldman Sachs employee getting an average of 700k? (for manupulating while sitting in an office.) No, they come ask the f'n general public, 1st. That will never change. |
you got dat right.
|
Terrible, I saw some uncut initial footage, so many instantly dead.
Have been working Keeneland sale all this week, seemed strange today watching so much money go to horses, when thinking about Haiti. We are so, so fortunate to be living in the USA. Quote:

Being centered just 6 miles deep makes it a real ass kicker.

i saw this morning there had been a quake, but i certainly didn't realize just how massive it was....just awful. |
those poor souls, they're going to need all the help we can give. its heartbreaking to see the devastation.
|
Wow, that's about as bad as it gets. Between this and the five Guys Burgers thread, I'd say we've got the entire spectrum of life covered.

They've never had a sewer system there? Of all the places to hit, it hits there. If Rush is thinking, he'll write a huge check to the Red Cross.
|
You know...why can't all those mega-rich f-er's out there do that? Oprah, and all those movie stars and sports stars who can drop a million like it's nothing. Why aren't they coming out of the wood work and giving to the Red Cross?
Tiger could really repair some of his rep with a nice fat 5 million! |

I did read where Brad and Angelina are helping. |
Just heard on WGN the prisons there are now empty and female american mission workers are being told by police to leave the country. This could get very ugly. Send in the marines and today.

Painless way to donate $10
Clinton said $3 million had been raised through a State Department program in which individuals with U.S. cell phones can donate $10 to the Red Cross, by texting "Haiti" to 90999. |

The slaughter of 1805. The murder of the whites in detail began at Port-au-Prince in the first days of January [1805], but on the 17th and 18th of March they were finished off en masse. All, without exception, have been massacred, down to the very women and children …
Let's be somewhat realistic . They need our help. They have been getting our help for many many years with no hope to repay us . Haiti has a history and the country with the highest birth rate in the western hemisphere is pining to migrate to Florida en masse. http://www.angelfire.com/mi4/polcrt/PolesinHaitiB.html |

If the country of Haiti wants to act like then all the aid workers should leave. Where was Haiti at on 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina? Almost forgot now there are less Haitians left to try to illegally enter our country now. |

If you volunteer for a day at any disaster area in Haiti you will receive a pass to any Walt Disney World theme park.

The luckiest thing that happens to most of us in this country occured the second we came out of the womb. We were born in a wealthy, free country. Instead of comments like nascar's "now there will be less haitians to try to illegally enter our country now", we should be greatful for what we have and try to give to others who were not as lucky as we are. The children who are currently dying under the rubble in Haiti are no different than the children in school in Florida, right now enjoying recess and a nice meal. They were dealt a bad hand from the start. |
Oh bullshit. This country is on the verge of bankruptcy and we still give 800 million of aid initially and China gives ONE. MILLION.
China will actually make money on this disaster. We better save ourselves and stop worrying about 5 million people who are from a country that has historically been filled with corruption and shows no signs of progressing into the 18th century, much less the 21st. There are over 6 billion people on the planet and the rich are hoarding their money and buying all of the natural resources for a reason. To waste money on Haiti after they have had 200 years to get their **** together is retarded. Your government is already doing a fine impersonation of Rain Man for you. Just watch. |
