Carroll to Seahawks

HAHAHAHA, he'll make a lousy pro coach.

clem822 01-09-2010 11:14 AM

I don't know, they may be a good fit, it's been quite some time between head coaching jobs in the NFL for Pete, but he may be able to turn that team around. Having said that, he's got his work cut out for him, because that is a bad team, they did have some injury problems like alot of teams did but he's got plenty of work to do there.

He wasn't bad with the Jets. Just not ready.

I wonder if there are storm clouds on the horizon at USC, hence the quick get-away.

Absolutely what I was just going to post about. He's getting out while the getting is good. Why else would you leave one of the top 5 jobs in the country to go to the......Seahawks?

horseofcourse 01-09-2010 11:47 AM

this is hard for me to believe. When exactly did Carroll say he "definitely" wasn't taking the Seahawks job? Would he really take the job before doing that?

Danzig 01-09-2010 12:26 PM

i don't think he can officially announce taking it til they fulfill the rooney rule-which is a ridiculous rule. i understand the intent of the rule, but wasting someone's time to show you 'interviewed' them is just silly.

Racist

Why these teams give big money to college coaches is beyond me. When does it work? Steve Spurrier and Nick Saban are hugely successful college coaches who were completely overmatched in the pros. Petrino was also very sucessful at Louisville but was overwhelmed in the NFL. Those are just three of the top of my head

Cannon Shell 01-09-2010 12:38 PM

Dennis Erickson, Butch Davis, Rich Brooks, Mike Riley, Lou Holtz...

Cannon Shell 01-09-2010 12:39 PM

I guess Jimmie Johnson is the only real success I can come up with. And he came from Miami which was the closest thing to the pros as thier is in college football

"mea culpa" knucklehead! It appears that the internal struggles with Mike Garrett were the major impetus for Carroll to go now. Plashke of Times had a decent article on it.

herkhorse 01-09-2010 01:10 PM

He gets as much $ as Shanahan, that's nuts.

His combined NFL record as head coach was 33–31. Doesn't the Seahawks management have Southern Cali ties ?
Wiki says --> The Seahawks have agreed to a five year deal with USC head coach Pete Carroll to replace Jim Mora as their next head coach.

ddthetide 01-09-2010 05:21 PM

no deal yet

After that Petey will most likely be named coach.

i agree it is an insult to all black coaches and i don't care for the rule. BUT, the rule got mike tomlin the job in pittsburgh. steelers looked at someone they other wise would not have interviewed.

He has won a Super Bowl, and you can never take that away from the guy. But the jury is still out whether he is a good coach or not.

I don't like the rule, I think it's an insult most of the time. Who know's maybe the Steelers felt obligated to hire Tomlin. It is call the Rooney Rule. No matter what/where the job opening, it should just be based on credentials and whether that person is the best person for the job no matter what color they are. That goes for everything, not just football.

Seems to me Petes' job was to coach and recruit players.....not babbysit and watch their every move. They have Faculty advisors and course advisors for all the rest. And Garrett objected to Carroll getting the press. Just sayin...

they must have liked something, they hired tomlin over wiesenhut and grimm, who were already on staff. steelers O-line play hasn't been the same since grimm went too Az.

Sanchez just had a great quote in his postgame, pretty much repeating Carroll's infamous "I disagree with Mark's decision" quote and turning it around on Carroll for leaving USC. Got a lot of laughs.
