leach fired

edit~now, with more details emerging, i don't want to still call this 'stupid'. should have known better than to go with just espn on this.

Personally, his methods were ridiculous! The kid could have gone into a coma
or worse. Leach sounds like a drill sgt. out there. We've had 1 Bobby Knight
that's enough.
I find it curious that he signed a new contract this Feb., but it contained a clause that he'd get 800Gs IF he was still the Coach by 12/31. Hmmmm...

Danzig 12-30-2009 01:57 PM

i'd imagine that clause was to keep him from going to another team before a bowl game.

Coach Pants 12-30-2009 02:08 PM

Texas Tech can enjoy mediocrity from here on out. He had $800,000 coming to him at the end of the day tomorrow if he was still head coach. This was purely a financial move.

The James kid is a spoiled p.ussy.

you're right, they will return to obscurity most likely. until leach got there they had no success.
as for the james kid, perhaps.

Kid could have gone into a coma two days after getting a mild concussion?

I'm not a doc, but he could have pressure on the brain...any number of things

Leach, who went 84-43 and took his team to 10 straight bowl games, was ostensibly fired for his mistreatment of a player with a mild concussion, but don't be fooled. The allegations by Adam James' family were a convenient excuse for school president Guy Bailey and athletic director Gerald Myers to rid themselves of a coach who, despite bringing the school considerable prestige, never fully earned their respect and butted heads with the administration for years (most notably in last winter's contentious contract negotiations).

...

But then came the allegations from prominent ex-football star and ESPN analyst Craig James claiming Leach had subjected his son to humiliating isolation on two occasions because of his injury. Disputes then ensued over the details and the motivation behind said allegations -- ex-players rushed to the coach's defense; James and his father were apparently bitter over his lack of playing time; the purported "electrical closet" turned out to be the size of a garage; a doctor swore Leach inflicted no harm -- but it was apparent from the beginning that Tech either wasn't buying it or wanted Leach gone regardless.

Coach Pants 12-30-2009 03:40 PM

Exactly. I hope he takes them to the cleaners.

Maybe you should find out more before spouting off on what he supposedly did. He had the player sit in a media room during practice. The kid is a spoiled rotten brat and his ***** actions are going to cost his university dearly.

Like father, like son. Craig James was one of the players that ruined SMU.

Cincy needs to back up the Brinks truck at the Leach household.

Danzig 12-30-2009 06:23 PM

Texas Tech continues to investigate a complaint from Adam James and his family, but Mike Leach backers wonder why he was suspended before the investigation was complete. "They never even told him why he was suspended," a source said. "There's nothing more to investigate. The source said Craig James has been "hounding these coaches at Texas Tech - not just Mike - all year" for more playing time for Adam James. "They suspended him because a family is upset about the kid's playing time," the source said. "That's what it is. [Leach] didn't do anything wrong with this kid. "James wanted Mike, No. 1, to promise that his son would be a starter next year, which you can't do." Craig James did not return a telephone call seeking comment.

Fort Worth Star-Telegram

i also read on the espn ticker that one of the asst coaches said in an email to the ad that leach and he had had to discipline james just a day or two before the supposed incidents-that his lack of work during practice was an issue.

I think it's even money or better he ends up there, assuming TTU doesn't take him back after this punk kid's story gets blown up. They already have great personnel for his system and with their recent success recruiting will be easy.

they already have a coach.....I would take him at UK to replace our 80% gone guy...

i watched craig james on espn and the allegations against the coach seem well founded.

i also recently watched 5 minutes of glenn beck and decided obama was the anti-christ.

Now there's a common sense question....You don't think it has anything to do with the fact that if Mike Leach wakes up 12/31/09 and is the coach of the football team he is owed a bonus of 850K......nah......just a coincidence!!

This whole story (James Kid) is an atrocious example of non medical people making medical decisions and speaking as official reps of the medical consultative staff without the training or education of that discipline....

The Univ. Board of Reagents wanted the coach out and thought the coaches actions were enough to do so......here's where they are wrong!

1) James caught 3 passes in the last game and was evaluated by a neurologist for a "mild concussion" with a normal head CT (no bleeding) following the game

2) James refuses to practice later the next week, Coach asks him to report to neurologist (James refuses) Coach calls neurologist who tells him James injuries are not serious according to neuro scoring (Glasscow Coma Scale = 14 )

There is zero chance of deterioration with this score. A fact that will come out in court when TT university loses this case and pays punitive damages

3) Craig James can whine all he wants, but this time the coach was smart enough to call the neurologist and then follow orders the doc gave as in cool dark room. Coach is unable to say anything about James's condition because of HIPAA but will make more money than God in 2010.

Yeah, I missed that. They got the guy from CMU, where they got Kelly.

Isn't UK already locked into Joker Phillips if Brooks retires?

well, he is the 'coach in waiting'.......but the way he calls offense, :zz:

ddthetide 12-31-2009 01:11 PM

Leach's attitude toward the administration got him fired. he was on rocky ground with the AD. the act and his interaction with his "bosses" afterward finished him off. being owed $800k helped push the matter along.

Absolutely no way it comes out any other way. The guy built the most successful program in the history of the school, never has a recruiting violation, his players graduate, builds studs out of leftovers after Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and everyone else picks through the state, and gets fired because some pretty boy selfish kid cries to dad.

He was the only one to give Adam James even a SNIFF of a scholarship, too.

and now tuberville expresses interest in the TT job:

the only surprise for me is that tommy is still unemployed. he's a good coach, i can't believe his name has taken this long to come up in connection with an opening.

I'll say upfront I don't know all the details, but why are all his players coming out and saying what an a-hole he was and how glad he is that he's gone?

The current players? Because they are losers. You see the winners like Graham Harrell defending him.

all? or just a few? i'd imagine most players only want to win, regardless of whether coach is an a-hole.

I'll try and find the quote, but it was basically "we will be a better team without him as our coach"...WR I think

one guy saying 'we' doesn't mean the team is in step with that-they might start feeling differently after their bowl loss this wknd.

would lsu fans like that run-n-shoot offense of his? although he should be able to pull in some serious skilled players. lsu fans sure won't like leach's defensive teams.
i still believe leach got fired because he was disrespectful with the administration

I firmly believe that Miles defense is slowly evolving into the swiss cheese defense he had at OK St., so in that respect there wouldn't be much difference.

ESPN has been extremely biased in their coverage of this situation. Read any other site and you will find tons of emails which show people supporting him. Craig James is a pathetic man and he has bestowed his patheticism on his son.
