Your favorite Frankel-trained male?

Vote for as many as you wish. This won't even be complete. Just shows what an amazing group of horses he helmed... Will do a female list as well seperately. Thread is meant as an opportunity for you to talk about your impressions of Frankel from a horseplayer or fan perspective.

philcski 11-16-2009 08:01 AM

Ghostzapper... in a landslide. And by his own admission, he didn't have any idea he would be that good going into his 3yo year.

Danzig 11-16-2009 08:18 AM

gz was the best, but my favorite would be peace rules.

kgar311 11-16-2009 08:22 AM

Its this about his best horse or about who was OUR favorite Frankel horse. I always loved Bertrando.

your favorite.

randallscott35 11-16-2009 08:35 AM

You've got Mizzen Mast on there twice Stevie.

Bertrando, was the first horse i really enjoyed watching and following, his loss in the BC was also my first BC so it holds a special place in my heart as well

Leroy and Empire Maker also honorable mentions for me

Exbourne is often the forgotten horse, but when he was right, he was a terror on the grass.

reese 11-16-2009 09:50 AM

When Bobby Frankel put Jerry Bailey on the notorious deep closer APTITUDE...it was "all he wrote". One of my favorite Frankel racers.

Peace Rules gets my vote too, along with Aptitude.
It is odd, because I always really liked Peace Rules, but Empire Maker (same barn, same crop) was one of my absolute least favorite horses of the decade.

Ghostzapper was clearly the best of the group, but I never really liked (or disliked) him all that much.

I always loved watching Aldebaran. Always struck me as such an exciting racehorse.

alysheba4 11-16-2009 12:31 PM

good one forgot about P.T.B.........

jballscalls 11-16-2009 12:50 PM

Ghostzapper by a big margin!

Thunder Gulch 11-16-2009 01:03 PM

Probably Ghostzapper, but Bertrando was one running SOB.

Indian Charlie 11-16-2009 01:05 PM

Mazel Trick.

As good as any in this poll.

Pay The Butler? Might as well put Missionary Ridge in there.

Champs Elysees ended his career on the right note, am I right in assuming that he was Frankel's last grade 1 winner?

DaTruth 11-16-2009 01:25 PM

Garthorn should be on the list.

outofthebox 11-16-2009 04:18 PM

Shagbark, Hacawind, and The Argyle Kid. All horses i got to groom while i was on summer vacation at Del Mar while still in High school. They all won at Del Mar that summer..

split with chesterhouse

ArlJim78 11-16-2009 04:27 PM

Lots of top talent no doubt, but my personal favorite was Medaglia d'Oro

Clip-Clop 11-17-2009 11:34 AM

Ghostzapper was insane, but I got to meet Empire Maker this spring at Juddmonte and he was a really cool horse.

RIP RF.

odbaxter 11-17-2009 08:32 PM

he trained him? you are right that horse was a beast. i remember him running in ny and he looked really, really good. man i'm old. i voted for squirtle squirt, love the name and that horse could move. saw him race here and he was awesome.

Merlinsky 11-20-2009 01:45 AM

I'd love to know what Bobby thought of Medaglia D'Oro and his breakthrough year as a sire with Rachel Alexandra, etc. I'm just not going to get used to no Bobby Frankel, that's all there is to it. He was one of the characters I really enjoyed (always fun to see Baffert's impression) in addition to being a top trainer. This season's In Memoriam tribute is gonna be a hard one.
