Moss...

What exactly is he doing catching 12 passes? That's about 7 too many.

The way it's supposed to work is like this....

* spread the field

* send Moss deep

* either...

A.) Exploit the huge mismatches underneath of Welker one on one with a linebacker or one on one with run stuffing safeties. Or the tight end one on one with the mike linebacker.

B.) Throw the ball deep to Moss if he's not doubled with safety help playing deep.

C.) Run a draw to Moss's side which is all cleared out now.

It's an unstoppable formula so long as the offensive line can hold their blocks up front ... which they did a decent job of last night.

But instead of doing it the way that made all world qb's out of a decrepit Randall Cunningham, Jeff George, Todd Bouman, Duante Culpepper, Matt Cassell ... they decided to turn Moss into some kind of possession reciever.

That means either A.) they are affraid to let Brady throw the deep ball right now .. (he did throw one to Galloway and missed badly) or B.) They are saving it for later.

If the deep ball isn't there ... forget 19-0... they might not even make the Super Bowl this time. That great Patriot defense of old is long gone.

SniperSB23 09-15-2009 02:38 PM

You take what the defense gives you and last night the Bills were not going to let Moss beat them deep no matter what. And they were willing to give him anything he wanted underneath in exchange for stopping the deep pass.

The Indomitable DrugS 09-15-2009 02:42 PM

maybe so ... but you still keep sending him deep ... it creates more space for the mismatches.

They have Moss working underneath like he's some kind of possession reciever. It's a good way to get him beat up.

Brady will be more accurate than yesterday ... he just is ... but the deep ball has to be there or there will be a lot of sadness in the world.

They had two options last night. Send Moss deep every play to create space and throw underneath to Welker and a past his prime Galloway who was never good over the middle to begin with. Or send Galloway deep every play and throw underneath to Welker and Moss. I think they made the right choice.

MaTH716 09-15-2009 02:48 PM

That's what they got Galloway for. Run him ragged to keep the defense honest. I'm sure Moss will still get his long/deep TD's this season and he probably won't get as gassed as if he was running 40 yards downfield every play.

Antitrust32 09-15-2009 03:43 PM

I know this has nothing to do with Moss... but the Eagles just got an upgrade at the Playmate position.

Carmella DeCesare for Kendra.

Sooner or later people are going to realize that Darrelle Revis is the best corner in football.

Revis is the best. Look at what Andre Johnson did today compared to last week. He makes Moss his bitch regularly. There's no one better.

I was noticing that, but I'll pick him after I take Nnamdi Asomugha and his broken wrist first.

He's doing well, unfortunately he tweaked his quad yesterday, hopefully it's not serious. It helps that Rex blitzes 25 people every play so he doesn't have to cover for long. He's only made one mistake in two games (an illegal contact penalty on third down yesterday), and he made up for it on the next play by breaking up a pass in the end zone.

I'm very happy you guys beat the cheaters yesterday. And I :{>: Sanchez (i know he's a former USC player but he's awesome). Prolly gonna root for you guys in the AFC this year.

No jinx....Jets blitz every down. Monsters.

rpncaine 09-21-2009 10:25 AM

Me too. It'll be nice to have someone else to contend with from the AFC East instead of the cheaters! Xmas weekend game at Indy should be fun to watch. Then we gotta go to Buffalo on New Years weekend for another tough one. Colts always struggle in that kind of weather so hopefully it won't mean much in the scheme of things.

Crown@club 09-21-2009 11:53 AM

LOL!!!

Randy Moss scoffed at Darrelle Revis' contention that he shut down the Patriots star receiver with man-to-man defense all game on Sunday.

"There are no shutdown corners in the league because they have help most of the game," said Moss. "I probably could be a shutdown corner if I had [Brandon] Meriweather over the top for the whole game." Moss credits the Jets' team effort and Rex Ryan's schemes for shutting down the Patriots offense.

I watched this year's super bowl champion play and they reside in Baltimore Md. That is a serious football team.

Coach Pants 09-21-2009 12:22 PM

My pick is the Niners.

Because if there's one thing we know Randy Moss for, it's lucid self-awareness and candor. It's interesting that every #1 CB gets safety help, yet Moss still succeeds against most teams while getting smothered by the Jets the last four times. Might have something to do with 24, shutdown Randy.

The Indomitable DrugS 09-21-2009 04:34 PM

Total yards: 299-254 in favor of the Pats

First Downs: 18-14 in favor of the Pats

Turnovers: 1 apiece

The difference in the game stat wise: New England had 11 penalties for 89 yards called against them ... and they're a team that is almost always amoung the least penalizied.

The Jets had pressure all day and they certainly deserved to win. The same Brady from '07 makes a lot of the throws he missed though.

More importantly, the Brady from '07 not only could throw the deep ball, but he loved to throw it. If the threat of the deep ball isn't there .. it's over.

The Pats defense isn't sh!t right now.

You were like 11 years old when Moss was black Jesus.

Cannon Shell 09-21-2009 09:38 PM

NE's offensive line isnt very good anymore

The Indomitable DrugS 09-21-2009 10:20 PM

It hasn't been since the Super Bowl loss to the Giants. Cassell was getting hit regularly all last year ... and Brady was wiped out in the 1st quarter of the 1st game.

:rolleyes: I'm old enough to remember him in tears about how life isn't fair after he ran over a traffic cop.

Still no rings and young Revis is his daddy. Deflect all you want. :)
