Macho Again

You don't have to worry about him coming for the Breeders Cup either. There's no way they send him.

He can't outrun a goat on synthetics.

Two tries on it ... he was 7th by 13 lengths at 7/5 odds his first try .. and 7th beaten 13 lengths to the great Adriano in the Lane's End.

Did anyone notice if Rachel gallop-out ahead of him or was he off screen ahead of her?

She did look to re-break when he started to pass her on the gallop-out.

Why?

Because he's owned by West Point?

They have Awesome Gem ... maybe they'll run Macho Again in the Mile and hope he can crack a 72 Beyer finally.

There is no way he wont run in the BC. They will run him in the sprint if they have to. Terry the Tuna doesnt pass up big days.

He didnt want to get laughed at. Considering the state of the older horse division and the post Rachel euporia after this race there will be no holding him back

Macho Again won me over, too bad about the BC being at Santa Anita again, because I think you're right about not seeing him on the fake stuff.

Hopefully the JCGC will be his BC Classic, ran a great race, especially giving 8 lbs., 1 1/4 should be up his ally.

On dirt I think he is the best older male in the country.

I don't think he hung, I'll have to watch it again, but I think RA just fought back and it looked like he hung, but he was gaining again at the end I thought he was about get her.

I think both horse just raced a fantatatic race.

No mud this year

The Indomitable DrugS 09-05-2009 06:12 PM

I doubt the mud cost anyone a chance of winning a Breeders Cup race that day.

Curlin, Midnight Lute, Indian Blessing, War Pass would have won on anything dirt based.

So would Ginger Punch assuming she and Hystericalady had the same trips.

drugs - the horse was hurt , he never even should have been entered , he wouldn't have beat a billy goat that day

A great race? He should have blown her away, he is a hanging plodder.

what horse was hurt?

pick4 09-05-2009 07:51 PM

It would be absurd not run in the Breeder's Cup Classic. He ran poor on polytrack in career start number two at Keeneland and the Lanes End early in his three year old year. All synthetics are not the same and he has everything to gain and not much to lose by running. He's owned by West Point and I can't see them keeping the horse in the barn the first Saturday in November.

Why, so he can run last at every call?

His surrounding dirt races were both 15 lengths better than his two synthetic races.

It's not like he was a bad horse when he tried synthetic and has since improved a ton. He's even MUCH worse than Pyro on it... if that's possible.

Anymore questions about the quality of last year's Travers? With Colonel John slated to run later today.

I was perplexed by him being made the morning line favorite... I thought for sure that role went to Rail Trip.

I think Macho Again will eventually raise Rachel Alexandra's place in history. I'm starting to re-evaluate the quality of this Woodward field minus RA. I wasn't a huge fan of his coming into this but upon closer examination he has been a pretty good performer. That's the name of the game, as horseplayer's and fans we constantly adjust our opinions, those that don't or refuse to admit they can be wrong are not...

BTW I was including Pyro, incase he was forgotten.

keeneland poly, Turfway poly, and SA pro-ride aren't near the same surface.

there really isn't anything to learn about Macho Again(and SA pro-ride) from his previous synthetic tries.

I'd be willing to bet he'd stink on that one too.

Everyone acts like each rubber track is so different, when in reality they are all pretty similar. Sure, they are a little different, and depending on maintenance they can change dramatically, but you don't see a lot of horses running vastly different from one synthetic to another.

RockHardTen1985 09-07-2009 09:35 PM

I think Macho Again is horrible.

He's a solid 102-108ish Beyer horse... in today's world, that's good. The days of the 115 Beyer handicap division are gonesville.

I dont know Travis. I just dont see it, its like he falls into those numbers. He gets a pefect setup in The Whitney and clunks for second. I actually just watched the replay, he is making up no ground on Bullsbay. Then in the Woodward he is supposed to blow her away, and he just hangs. Maybe I dont give him any credit, but I think a handfull of the 3 yr olds are better as well as fillies like Zenyatta and Icon Project.
