She really picked a great year to be a talented filly in this division as long as she doesn't face Rachel. Regardless she did what a good horse should do to that field.

But didn't Rachel Alexandra do the same in The KY Oaks(okay she won by a Secretariat like margin), obcourse hindsight is 20/20 no one knew she would go on to be better under Assmusen.

I follow Woodbine so it isn't really a surprise to me she is a good horse, but in all honesty I never thought she would be this good, this soon.

That giant figure in her last race was very cut and dry ... but it came with a loose lead ... albeit loose through very strong fractions with a fast horse in Malibu Prayer chasing her. Malibu Prayer had won a bitter duel with a next out Test winner her prior start.

What was so impressive about today was not that she ran back to her only other dirt figure .. but she showed that she could do it while denied the lead going a classic distance. Even if the Beyer doesn't show it - I think she took a step forward today.

the_fat_man 08-22-2009 06:12 PM

What are her POLY numbers?

That is was what I saw, she was steadied hard around the 1st turn also to make it even more impressive, and you have to like the way she kicked home, no apparence of shortening stride. She could get even better...

No doubt. But we already knew that.

What are your numbers for her on POLY?

cmorioles 08-22-2009 06:22 PM

Sprints were 81 and 82. The route was a 92 and was earned setting a slow pace without pressure then flying home.

the_fat_man 08-22-2009 06:28 PM

That 23.99 2nd split is slow for you?

This filly has now run 4 straight wipe-outs. Not an easy thing to do.

CSC 08-22-2009 06:28 PM

On different note, I wonder when Jess Jackson will make his offer to buy Careless Jewel from these connections and turn her over to the Ass-Man.

I hope these owners can resist the inevitiable 6 figure offer they will no doubt receive once they haved viewed today's race.

Is she competition for Rachel, I think she might be.

I would only do it if I retained 51% of her. However I wouldn't be surprised if someone makes a big push for her, Tabor and Godolphin are the only others that can afford it. It may be inevitable.

You couldn't buy this filly for 999,999.99 if you lived in Disney. Start at 2.5 plus plus maybe even 3.5mil.. You couldn't get this filly for a mil if you throw in a night with Pam Andersen

Only if Hal Wiggins got to train her.. 2.03 your kidding right Rachel would beat her by a a country mile

chucklestheclown 08-23-2009 12:15 AM

She is no nashoba's key, let alone ra.

Nashoba's Key was a filly I never appreciated. Perhaps I am wrong, I never thought she was all that special if special at all.

On the surface the final time was good/ordinary but the track went from muddy to good later in the day, I think this is a case when you have to use your common sense to evaluate if a performance was good or wasn't.

I agree the race was very very impressive even if she beat vermin. Don't know the BSF but I would have to imagine its between a 104 and 108?

The rest of the Alabama field should be sent to barrier trials for eternity.

King Glorious 08-23-2009 07:33 PM

She ran her final quarter in about 25 4/5 and still drew off. None of the other runners ran under 27 for the last quarter. It was a good race, slightly above average, that was made to look much better than it was because of the level of competition.

Does this number seem right to you?

CSC 08-25-2009 07:45 AM

It ended up being a 106, paired up with 103 from Delaware, she looks like the real deal.

cmorioles 08-25-2009 07:09 PM

She also went pretty darn quick early for that distance at Saratoga. She is the real deal.

What do you make of the last few furlongs?

The Indomitable DrugS 08-25-2009 08:42 PM

She's just lucky a real star like Pine Island wasn't in there to grind her down.

Pine Island would have thrived on Poly.. BTW Fat Burger she was an ugly a mover as any.. She moved like a 1400 back loader.. Yet she ran down most..

The Indomitable DrugS 08-25-2009 09:14 PM

by most ... I assume you mean Teammate.

I don't know if Pine Island's footwork was good enough to make her a top poly horse ... but if she had a well slept Alan Gracia riding her .. anything is possible.

I don't consider small parts of a race as having any meaning if they aren't viewed in context with the rest of the race.
