The Indomitable DrugS 08-17-2009 01:31 PM

Didn't the guy who finished 2nd in the race run the 3rd fastest time ever?

That will probably hurt the Beyer figure Bolt gets.

King Glorious 08-17-2009 01:34 PM

Yeah, the third fastest legal time and yet he wasn't even close. I think Bolt can get it even lower. It's almost unimaginable to fathom a sub-9.5 but he makes you think it's possible. I still saw room for improvement from him yesterday.

Does it ever reach a point where it's humanly impossible to go any lower?

Good question, I think hes already gone there!

I wonder if he could stretch out his speed and go 2 turns?

He needs blinkers, kept looking to the right.

The real question is with that sort of speed out of the blocks could he crack 19 seconds in the 200? I think it is reasonable that he could run the first hundred in 9.85 even on the turn. He went about 9.2 for the second hundred last Olympics so the possibility is there with a great start if he really worked on his turns.

Two turns yes...I'm interested to see what happens when he gives the 400m a serious try. Got to believe he could go way low 42. (current WR is 43.18)...as next year is a non-championship year (no Olympics or World Championship) that might be a good time to try it.

TG was 3 steps behind. sadly i don't think he can go any faster and he was 2-3 steps ahead of 3rd.

i watched the semi's and the finals. i too think he can get to 9.5 or just under. he actually ran to the line yesterday. he knew TG was closer this race.

Yeah, what else would you expect from a sport who's roots are from convenience store thefts.

i've been called a lot of things but never a convenience store thief.

Riot 08-17-2009 08:43 PM

Let me ask you guys something because I don't know. Obviously track surface composition has changed over the years, it's some rubberized thing now to help prevent injuries - any contribution to speed?

Smooth Operator 08-17-2009 09:13 PM

Beyer fig will take that into account, Riot.

DrugS will post the number when it becomes available. lol

a LOT! 30 years ago when the rubberized tracks started to be installed there were about 3-4 grades from soft to hard. soft was like the rubber basketball courts. the distance runners seem to like that alot because they floated over it. most big sprinters like me didn't like it because it bounced. differing degrees of softness went on for 10-15 years.

the atlanta olympics figured it out, "SPEED" sells! the sprinters like the hard track and distance guys hated. michael johnson crushes the 200m and 400m world record. it sold tickets and the tv ratings were through the roof, for track. firm to hard surfaces won out and the big international meets are all about getting athletes in to set world records.
the distance runners figured it out too, speeds not a bad thing.

He just ran 19.19 into a slight headwind. Yikes.

Heels1989 08-20-2009 01:56 PM

that dude is SICK!!! :tro:

King Glorious 08-20-2009 01:56 PM

My God. What if his coach is right and the 400 would be his best event?

SniperSB23 08-21-2009 12:14 AM

He needs to work on the turn. To break 19 would be one of those records that would never be broken.

chucklestheclown 08-21-2009 01:12 AM

Is lasix OK?

sickest track man the world has ever seen! it's hard to imagine, Bolt is .70 better than the rest of that field!
he has a little bit left, don't know he can break 19. i do think he can get he can get under 19.1 though. his problem now, NO one is close enough to push him. IMO, the 200m is his best race.

ddthetide 08-21-2009 06:01 AM

4X100 relays

Both US teams are OUT, in the semis. the men made the 3rd pass before the start of the zone. the women clipped heels making the 2nd pass.
Bolt will run anchor for team Jamaica.

USA T&F Team runs in Olympic Stadium in Berlin for the first time since 1936. Jesse Owens 4 gold medal performance and world record long jump.:tro:

I thought Bolt runs third and Powell runs the anchor. That's what they did before when they set the world record.

they had Bolt listed as anchor but he ran third leg.

closing day live 2-4pm, re-run at 8-pm on versus.
4x400m relays. both men and women qualified for finals. women looked REALLY sharp.

ddthetide 08-23-2009 02:55 PM

4x400 relays, women won by almost 4 seconds, men won by almost 3 seconds. the guys have only lost this race twice in history.
USA won the medal count.
