He should throw in a shopping spree to Victoria's Secret and two pink Mazda Miata's for Moss and Shirreffs.

It could be 20 million, like money matters with two owners worth 100's of millions and at a place like SH.

Left Bank 08-11-2009 01:38 PM

Well, numb nuts, for one,it's a neutral site.number two,the purse is an incentive to try and bring the two together, and three,it will settle once and for all the question everyone wants to know, and that is how easily Rachael will whoop this SoCal Lava Man impersonator!!!!

Explain that to Monmouth and those horsemen at The Meadowlands...

How will this settle everything? As much as I want to see them in a race together, this will settle nothing. You have a horse that wants to be near the front and the other one is a dead closer. Rachael will loaf on the lead and Zenyatta won't be able to get her. It's not cause Rachael is better (even though I think she is) it's about racing dynamics. Zenyatta just got up the other day in the last steps, do you honestly think that she will reel in Rachael after 24 48 fractions that she will set on an uncontested loose lead? Like I said it will settle nothing.

but isnt that why E and EP types are better than closers as race horses, I have always felt that way. Just because Zenyatta has collapsed every pace scenario does not change that, she is a bit of a freak in that regard.

I wonder what horsey message boards would have been like during the Affirmed and Alydar TC season?

I personally think that Zenyatta is a very good horse. I thought she was beat on Sunday (a couple of times) and she battled, dug in and got up to win. As far as the pace scenarios that she has/has not gotten to close into, I just think that she is so much more talented than the horses she is is running against out there.

No one is going to pass up a G1 race for this. The match race would have to be after the BC

Can someone tell Pants to save this post? lol

Antitrust32 08-11-2009 02:42 PM

I think they should have a 2 or 3 furlong sprint race for the two horses. they can just unleash their "final kick" and see who is truely faster..

Smooth Operator 08-11-2009 02:45 PM

Oh brother ... think it's about time for you to retire from the entire board, Antithrust32...

That comment is actually pretty accurate. Sam Houston has never had issues with breakdowns and considering the absolutely wretched stock that has run at the track over the years, that's a minor miracle.

I said earlier it has all but no chance of happening but if so those who attend will be treated to some lovely Texas hospitality.

Assuming Rachel goes in the Woodward, wouldn't that the best place for Zenyatta to take a shot at her, if Zenyatta's owners were inclined to take their mare out of her SoCal cocoon this year? There would be older males to run with Rachel on the front end, as opposed to what you might get in a race such as the Beldame or any other race limited to fillies and mares. And a 9F race track might very well suit Zenyatta's running style.

Zenyatta's owners aren't even willing to consider the Pacific Classic now. There is no way they are going anywhere to face Rachel.

I have heard they were not happy at all with Belmont after Giacomo and Tiago shipped there. Dont jump on me because I am not saying it but just saying I read that over the past couple of years.

I agree. The match race idea is silly. My point was that, if (and that's a mighty big IF) they wanted to face Rachel, wouldn't the Woodward be the best race in which to do it.

I thought it was more but that would be an issue, surprised CD is doing that as no horse in the BC could race there.

Sadly I forgot it was a good friend's birthday today, but I can remember when the Clark is. :o

Recent history suggests that most horses are over the top after the Breeders' Cup and the preps to get them there. And the fact that the BC is a week later than usual makes the turnaround time to the Clark even less appealing.

Actually Cannon Shell believes purses are VERY important so I am assuming if it was 20 mil that would get both of there attention..

Danzig 08-11-2009 05:40 PM

i doubt that zenyatta will go anywhere to face rachel. there's no need for them to ship. there's plenty to win in cali. they won't enter her in an open race, as they don't wish to take on males. they probably don't want to enter a weight for age, and concede any perceived advantage to rachel in that respect.

if the main things the mosses want is to race zenyatta, enjoy her racing, and try to retire her undefeated, then there is no reason at all for them to do anything other than what they've been doing. if they absolutely want HOY, then they cannot. so, it all boils down to what is most important for them. i don't have any issue with them if they choose to keep zenyatta in california, just like i have no issue with jackson not taking rachel to the bc.

freddymo 08-11-2009 05:41 PM

From what insiders are saying the Clark is a very real possiblity.

I have no issue with them keeping her record clean as long as they rep that they never wished to face horses that Zenyatta would lose to..Mind you I am a Huge Zenyatta fan.. I really am an enormous fan of her's

Bobby Fischer 08-11-2009 05:47 PM

lol Jess Jackson should have front men offering $2 Million match races at b-level tracks every few days or so, now that Moss has decided to be conservative.
