wow, that was close!

I think she got up.

Nice ride by Smith!

dagolfer33 08-09-2009 07:46 PM

She only ran inside the sixteenth, she is a good horse...however she might be in trouble if they were to play around in a race with a stellar field.

CSC 08-09-2009 07:47 PM

Actually I think that race was more a testament to her, she's a big lumbering filly so you probably don't want to cover her up and take a chance late splitting horses too often but I would love to see her with a Jockey that doesn't leave her with an impossible trip the majority of the time, she may need that one inch someday.

Agreed.

Travis Stone 08-09-2009 07:49 PM

What a stretch drive... very exciting.

Probably, but regardless, it really was an exciting horse race.

hockey2315 08-09-2009 07:51 PM

Yawn.

PPerfectfan 08-09-2009 07:51 PM

I think it wasnt a great ride by Smith, how could he not know they were crawling up front? It was close because he made it close, it would have been a shame to see her get beat because of it.

I was very impressed .. she got up and caught a horse who ran 5th in an N3X allowance race last time out.

You want them to try and save ground with that heffer?

Come on, there's only one style with that mare and that's exactly how Smith rides her.

That was an exciting race and certainly the pace worked against her, so it shows what a quality horse she is. That being said, I turned TVG off immediately after the race because I needn't hear one more second of Todd Schrupp's bombastic proclamations about Zenyatta.

This pace stuff. It's not like she's always raced against 22 4/5 quarters. They went 46 2/5 last year and she won by just one length.

Coach Pants 08-09-2009 07:56 PM

I'll catch it on Youtube. Watching TVG makes me wish death on the hosts.

If TVG was based on the east coast, then he would be carrying on about RA.

I'm getting tired of some of their commentators "bias" for the west coast. I don't care which coast is better.....just give out honest opinions that the horseplayers would listen to. Send the FoxNet crowd packing........

Not a problem. All Jackson has to do is send his FAST filly out there and kick her ass. It's really that simple. Maybe he can get her that wide stalking trip, you know, the one that works real well on POLY.

outofthebox 08-09-2009 08:00 PM

Del Mar Website has her coming home the final 1/4 in 22.57. That is smoking.

I did exactly the same thing.

Indian Charlie 08-09-2009 08:03 PM

That was a really retarded ride by Smith.

It made me think of Desoremoan, they way he overthought things.

How so? He rode her the same exact way he always rides her? That style is her style, it's what she does. He's not going to put her into the race at the half because the pace is slow, that's not her element.

I hope now more than ever that he brings Rachel to the BC. He only needs to give her to Doug Salvatore to train because Assman's stats on Poly are really bad. If DrugS can't do it can you fill in, Fats?

Lethal Heat is a good horse and a graded stakes winner. She obviously wasn't ready off the layoff last time out

It doesn't take much to be a stakes winner as an older horse these days.

I'm one of those guys that loves a race to look pretty, you know split horses late, save ground thread a needle...I hate 4 path no excuse uncovered when clearly she is last trips swing from the 4 path to the 6 path runs...I know I need help, seriously one of these days I can see Mike having a bullseye on him when he costs her a race.

Especially in SoCal

letswastemoney 08-09-2009 08:22 PM

I don't think Zenyatta will win the Pacific Classic though if she runs there. Rail Trip will crush her

She made up 4.5 lengths on Anabaa's Creation through the final 2.5 furlongs.

People don't realize that the paces always appear slow going 8.5 furlongs at Del Mar.

Yesterday Alw Race: 24.82 49.62 1:14.13 1:38.17 1:44.36

Zenyatta Race: 23.86 48.84 1:13.64 1:37.28 1:43.24

Alw race first quarter: 24.82 - Alw race final 6.5fs: 1:19.54

Who cares about the final 6.5? What is the final 2.5, that is what I would look at? If its less then 30 its flying.

Danzig 08-09-2009 08:39 PM

anyone hoping for her to go vs males next out off another crusher vs her own sex can forget it. no way they take on males now, when she barely eked out a win at equal weights today. and yes, i know what the pace was early. they want her to go out perfect, so i doubt they take on any challenges at this point as is their right. she's a nice horse for sure, and has been fun to watch.

Nashoba's Key won this race 2 years ago closing from dead last into fractions of 25.93 - 51.07 - 1:16.37 ... but that was back when it was really polycrap.

i put them on just for zenyatta's race, it was very painful...when they announced the 'win a dinner with todd and simon' contest i just laughed.

Dream on girl they have to take on the males next or retire her now instead of after the Breeders Cup.

the notable thing was zenyatta coming from last into the teeth of the setup.

a side note- 8.5 furlongs is a short distance for her to be running with her size and talent and the goals she has on the horizon. I know it's only August, and she can "only run what they card" etcetc...

Two years ago the surface was a total joke........its only a joke this year. Its actually playing more fair than Santa Anita last winter.
