Rachel Alexandra (116 Beyer for Haskell)

Awesome!

Horse of the Year?

XIIPointStables 08-02-2009 05:23 PM

Send Her To The Travers!

jballscalls 08-02-2009 05:25 PM

year is barely half over, but she is incredible!!

PPerfectfan 08-02-2009 05:27 PM

Holy Crap what a girl!!!!!!!!!!!!! So easy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10 pnt move up 08-02-2009 05:27 PM

Its pretty hard to imagine her losing, she is lengths better than anything in training and her style is also an advantage.

TheSpyder 08-02-2009 05:27 PM

We've been so overdue for a horse like this. How great!

randallscott35 08-02-2009 05:29 PM

On that track to run that fast.....Wow...unheard of.

Have to say I am shocked that Summer Bird ran that well when he looked as poorly as he did schooling 9 days ago. Sorry for that but maybe he's just a real thin (Real Quiet like) horse....

But as for Rachel. Nothing needs to be said.

Sightseek 08-02-2009 05:30 PM

She comes back to the winner's circle all calm like nothing happened.

What a horse!

XIIPointStables 08-02-2009 05:42 PM

TVG postscript (Michelle Yu from TVG doing the interviewing)...

Steve Asmussen: Take her back to Saratoga and see how she comes out of this.

Jess Jackson: We'd like to face Zenyatta, but we're not going to California. I've said it before and I'm sticking to it.

Riot 08-02-2009 05:43 PM

Terrific - so glad we get to see such a good horse. I don't know that I've ever seen her breathing really hard after a race.

Travis Stone 08-02-2009 05:45 PM

Zenyatta isn't in Rachel's zip code at this point. Rachel is running, Zenyatta is not. Rachel has tried the boys, Zenyatta has not. Sure the game could change, but right now, Rachel Alexandra is the 10-length leader in the race for Horse of the Year.

randallscott35 08-02-2009 05:46 PM

I love Jess Jackson. Good for him.

boswd 08-02-2009 05:48 PM

WOW is all you can say about her performance.

She does have three options for Saratoga :

1. Alabama ( shocked if she goes to that one)
2. Travers ( With Kensie winning yesterday, I don't know, they may feel she has nothing else to prove in the 3 yr old division)
3. Personal Ensign ( Tackle Older Females for the First time in one of the top G1 for Filly's and Mares)

My guess of what will conspire. Assumesan and Jackson will give the run around for about 2 weeks and being undecided and then will rest her until the Belmont Fall Season. Which would stink Her and MTB in The Travers would just be soo insane for the sport.

10 pnt move up 08-02-2009 05:54 PM

The figures dont lie, RA is the most superior horse in training right now, its not a slight to anyone else its just the facts. Why race against her anymore? There are million dollar races and a 6 million dollar one in November that I would target if I had a horse.

It don't matter, because when she gallops in the Travers, Horse of the Year is all wrapped up

Danzig 08-02-2009 06:25 PM

we just got back from running the boat up the river to make sure all was well for labor day (we had to get a water pump put in) so i just got back to watch her on tape. WOW! yet another fantastic race from her-she hasn't had a bad one this year. two top efforts vs boys, a defeat of the belmont winner to go with the defeat of the derby winner. it would take a miraculous couple of races from any of the other possible HOY candidates to keep her from getting that eclipse at this point. two ticks off the track record in the slop. unreal...

She has three options at Saratoga and the Alabama is not one of them. Rather than go in the Travers or PE, I would give her the extra week off and take on the older boys in the Woodward. No female has ever won the Woodward. 9 furlongs would be the right distance for her to try them also. If Commentator runs in the Whitney, it is very doubtful you would see him in the Woodward three weeks later.

The Woodward....I like it!!

Arletta 08-02-2009 06:53 PM

Just watched the replay.. Missed the race live.

Wow! She just keeps getting better and better!! Tick off the track record as well.... To think that one day we will be able to look back and say "I remember this great filly names Rachel" to our kids/grand kids :)

If I caught the details correctly, she was 2/5 of a second off the track record in THAT slop??

And Calvin didn't get the inside until she was free and clear in the stretch??

Superb performance!

Thunder Gulch 08-02-2009 07:46 PM

She is simply amazing. The best filly I've ever seen since I've been watching, and one of the best 3yo's period. The Travers seems like the most likely and a relatively "safe" spot if ever there was for a filly in the Travers, but WOW, if she tries the Woodward....now that's really pushing the envelope. Too darned bad the BC is on fake stuff again and the memory of Curlin is still fresh in their mind, because right now I just don't know what it will take to beat this filly.

Quality Road was really good before the problems.
Its easy to forget about him now, but hes a runner. His style is also the same as her.

Ok agreed he was a nice colt who looked like he could have a nice future..Aren't there 4 or 5 of these types every year that we all try and spectulate how good they could have been.. I am sure we can all think of countless nice colts that never became what we thought they should have become..

I think Quality Road is a little more then that. Im just saying its easy to forget a really good horse who has not raced in months, especially with how good she is.

If he comes back the same or better, I would love to see them hook up in The Travers.

boswd 08-02-2009 08:18 PM

Kensei is a very interesting horse. Looked really nice and solid, seems to be peaking at the right time, wouldn't mind see how RA and her stablmate lock horns

Wrong answer Randall.

I don't hate Jess Jackson, but his stubborness won't change anything except keep horse racing from having another chance at good pub.

Sightseek 08-02-2009 08:36 PM

Grening's article said the preliminary figure for Rachel is a 116.

She will run at the BC, it is part of the story.....(Oh I didn't want to run but I just had to, I didn't want the public to hate me, so I did, she romped, and I am the greatest)

Stubborness? It's their horse for goodness sakes. How is it good publicity to run your horse on a surface she may not show how good she really is?

She has won over a synthetic before, pretty impressively, if she is healthy, she should run in the BC, and quite possibly in the Classic.

Why should they be afraid of a surface? They are being stubborn dirt lovers with an agenda. You have the best freakin' horse in the country...run her. It's not like she's being asked to be a polo pony or something.

The same could be said of those who think the Breeder's Cup is the be all end all.

Steve Asmussen horses don't run on synthetics.

I don't care what she did on synthetic tracks for other trainers - I will do cart wheels to bet against her on a synthetic track right now.

You mean Asmussen de-Polyd her in 3 months? How does that work?
