Garcia and Maragh look like the overlays to me.

The Indomitable DrugS 07-25-2009 01:30 PM

Dominguez is probably a cinch.

Back-to-back top 5 finishes in his only two years riding this meet full time - and both times - he came into the meet from Delaware instead of riding Belmont.. which put him at a tremendous disadvantage.

Not only is he coming in from riding Belmont this time - but he dominated the standings there. He came up 12 wins short last year .. and that only amounts to an extra win every 3 racing days. There is no way this year shouldn't be light years better for him.

I'll book any :$: for Prado at 5-1.

I think Leparoux could surprise this meet. Esp if he can pick up some mounts on the Assmu babies since SB is hurt.

The Indomitable DrugS 07-25-2009 01:48 PM

Prado is riding 4 of the 5 Asmussen horses on opening day ... he seems to have landed that barn with SB injured.

I thought Robbie would.

The Indomitable DrugS 07-25-2009 02:52 PM

There aren't enough two turn dirt routes or Graded Stakes for Borel at Saratoga.

2007 was the only other year he rode full time at Saratoga in his career - and he went 6-for-14 with a $4.32 ROI in dirt routes.

Problem was that he was 3-for-86 in all other races at that meet.

He's 16-5-3-2 with a $4.48 ROI in all Graded Stakes at Saratoga over the last 4 years. Including a 2nd beaten less than a length with Social Probation at 24/1 odds.

What clinches the riding title may be who gets to ride all of Eddie Kenneally's 2yos.

where is Jason Lumpkins?

The Indomitable DrugS 07-25-2009 04:35 PM

That's a very deep question.

His mortal flesh is in West Virgina.

eajinabi 07-25-2009 04:43 PM

Can we actually bet on this or is this just fantasyland odds

CSC 07-25-2009 05:11 PM

I hate the way Prado is riding right now, I'm not sure what is wrong with him but from what I have observed he is not the same rider he was a few yrs ago.

Ever since he went down on at Saratoga two years ago? Was that closing day?

I don't remember him falling recently, however I do remember him being injuried before and coming back strongly. I don't know maybe it's me but he looks passive out there, he was never a busy rider as a Gomez is, or even a Kent D is at times, he looks like he is riding in slow motion compared to those 2. Still if he ever gets it back he was a pretty reliable rider at one time.

No love for my man Castellano? *sniff*

Tough to win a riding title when all you do is scrape the paint. (From the outside rail, that is.)

hoovesupsideyourhead 07-26-2009 06:49 PM

lezcano is ultra bad..he will have a higher roi than any of these. and ramon d at 4/5 is a huge bet against. imo

johnny pinwheel 07-26-2009 07:53 PM

garcia at 12-1 looks good. i have it narrowed down to the 4 logical ones, kent D., ramon D., and johnny v. these guys connect with the live barns here and ride the grass better than the others. all the rest are considered "bombs" in my mind.

Give me $20W on Leparoux at 40-1

dean smith 07-27-2009 10:51 AM

COA!

15/1 ?!

Eibar is the man. He always seems to win for me. He's "my boy" and he's who I've got my money on.

If I weren't getting 40-1 on the Frenchman Coa was my choice 15-1. He's a stud rider on the lawn. IMO there's no better in NY right now.

The Indomitable DrugS 07-27-2009 12:02 PM

Leparoux didn't manage to win 20 races at Saratoga last year - or the year before that - and he didn't ride a single winner at Belmont this year ... so it's going to be hard for him to get live with NY horses.

With other Kentucky riders like Alberado, Borel, Mena, Castanon, and possibly Theriot at Saratoga this year .. and with Prado seemingly picking up Asmussen .. it's not like he will have every good mount from Kentucky barns either. No Biancone babies either I don't think.

I realize he crushed most of these riders and won this years Keeneland meet by double digits .. but the NY riders have the same disadvantages at KEE that he will coming to NY. He only beat Borel by a single win at CD and trailed him on win percentage.

fantini33 07-27-2009 02:52 PM

I'll take a Maragh, Johnny V box please. Coa used to be my go to guy on the lawn but throughout the Belmont meet I seemed to get tough rides from him. I'll take Garcia and Lezcano splitting horses in those turf sprints, saving ground.

That said, I just guaranteed Coa to bring home 6 $20 turf winners openiong weekend.

Good pts all. I do note he has a mount in every race opening day albeit most are on outsiders, at least according to the m/l. He'll certainly need Maker and Zito to have strong meets for him to have any hope of being in the mix.

i do well with him too, even though i did not pick him in my top 4. he is good on the lawn and gets overlays but hes very inconsistant. i've seen him ride like a genius in one race and totally get into trouble the next. i agree though he does get them home at a square price.

Well put, Lezcano is the man, really come into his own this year after a great MTH meet last year.
