Friday nite at Hollywood 5/22

My favorite night of the week is upon us. Moderate success last Friday on a chalky early 4 play and a big score was out there as the late pick 4 paid over 5k. Which included a $42 Montaleone horse that some of the late nite DT crew had. I know I was kickin myself for going to bed early and not putting in a late 4 ticket.
Not really thrilled with the Early 4 tonight as it includes a 2 year old Maiden filly claiming race. Here's a quick look and hopefully I will get to take a good look at the late 4 today because I really don't want to invest to much in the early play.
1ST 6F 40K CLAIMER
6 COSMIC QUEEN-$320,00 purchase running for a tag for the first time. Best Beyers in the field, the shades come off for this 3 year old that looks like she could race on the lead or rate.
5 NINE TO DINE One of the speed horses in the race. She is jumping up a couple of levels and seems to be in good form.
4 AROSEHASITSTHORNS She might have a chance at a price if the race should melt down. First start in Cali coming over from the Turf Paradise circuit, where she did run 3rd in a minor stakes race. Slow work on the poly on 5/11 is a bit concerning, but I'm hoping the price will be right.

2nd 4 1/2f MDN 40K (2 YEAR OLDS)
3 SEEUAT STICKNSTEIN Captain obvious horse that will probably be odds on. DQ from a victory on 4/29 and trainer is winning at 33% clip with horses making 2nd start. Has some speed and should be near the lead
9 SWISS RECORDRan 5th in that 4/29 race while breaking from the rail. Gets an outside post and adds the shades. Also sports a bullet on 5/19.

I'm personally not a big fan of these races. I'm making a stand and only going 2 deep in this race.

3rd 7 1/2F CLAIMER12.5
3 ALL SET Making first start for the Ayers/Mullins barn. Front running 5 year making 3rd start off the layoff. Drilled a bullet on 5/14 and has hit the board in her 2 starts in 09.
5 LOVELY OLIVIA Slight cutback for this competitive 5 year old. Has hit the board in her last 6 starts, Beyers are a bit lite, but she always seems to be there.

Playing against the 9 THREAT. Has burned a ton of money in her short career. Was competitive running for 25k at Santa Anita, but is dropping off a freshening. Add the extra panel to the equation and I'm playing against. She will probably win by 13 now.

4th 7F MDN CLAIMER 40K
7 HE DID Ships south after runnng at GG in his first 5 starts where he hit the board 3 times. Also dropping in for a tag for the 1st time.
9 WARREN'S TONY R Back in for a tag after 3 unsuccessful attempts in M Sp Wt company. Coming off a layoff and has been competitive in the claiming ranks. Bejerano takes the call which seems to be another positive as he and Gutierrez are 1-1 for the meet together.
5 MENDOTA BAY They thought enough of this colt to run him in a stakes race as a maiden. Finally gets some class relief and the Barba barn is off to a good start winning with 2 of their 5 starters.
1 PRACTICAL MAGIC Speed, rail, blinkers, drop, trainer 36% turf to synthetic is enough for me.

Early ticket
4,5,6
3,9
3,5
1,5,7,9

3x2x2x4=$48 pre-scratches
Good Luck.

Matt, I've enjoyed watching y'all play on Fri. nights the last couple of weeks. I'm going to play this P4 with you, except I'm playing for $1 and I'm singling the 6 horse in the first and adding the 9 horse in the third that you respected. Thanks for your service for America and best of luck to you and us. Hollywood early P4 6/3,9/3,5,9/1,5,7,9 = $24

Good Luck Bee, Friday nights at the Wood are always fun. Feel free to join in.
It definitely wouldn't suprise me if the 9 won the 3rd, but I'm making a stand.

And to keep the record straight, I have never served in the military. That's just more of a tribute to the men an women who have served. Unfortunately I think they get forgotten on their day because everyone is to busy launching the start of summer.

Well said...

I'm back this week for the late P4. I'll be out, but the best part about the 'Wood on Friday nights, is I can get in at midnight and watch the whole P4.

I am in for some night Wood!!! I will have my form in hand in about 30 minutes, and in an effort to help out our GNP, I will spend the rest of my day @ work cappin the Wood. G/L everyone and for what they are worth I'll share my thoughts later.

beemerhauler 05-22-2009 02:01 PM

Clay, that was fun hearing Steve give you results as you were traveling yesterday for the Hollywood races. Have fun surfside.

ARyan 05-22-2009 02:02 PM

I am in too. I'll take a look when I get home from work. Might not be a better way to start a long weekend...

MaTH716 05-22-2009 02:40 PM

I'm thinking the late pick 4 looks kind of chalky too. But here it goes.
5th 1 1/16 O/C 40K
2 HOT N DUSTY Has been 2nd 5 out of the last 6 with the other being a win. Thinking that the extra 1/16 will help this deep closer.
4 LULLABYTIME 4 year old front runner seems to be in good form right now. Should either be on the lead or be in good stalking position.

6th 1 1/16 CLAIMER 12.5
2 CRAZY TRICIA I'm thinking that O'Neill is just trying to get her out of his barn. Has hit the board in all 4 of her Hollywood races. Ran 2nd at 16k now dropping in for 12.5. She will offer no value as she went of odds on last out as well.
6 THERE GOES GEE GEE Finished 3/4 of a length behind CRAZY TRICIA on 5/2. Looks like she has tactical speed.

1 VOODOO'S VISION Still undecided on whether to play this filly. She has some speed, the rail and is on the drop for a trainer that's winning at 36%. Concerned about the distance and the negative rider switch to Miss Stra. On the fence at this point.

7th 6f TURF o/c 62K
2 WINE ON THE PORCH Mitchell runner working well for return off a layoff. Speed horse should end up on the rail breaking from the 2 hole. Last grass race was April of 08, when he ran 3rd in a minor stakes. The top 2 finishers came back to win in their next race. 20% trainer of the layoff the colt is also not entered for a tag.
8 MY CITY BY THE BAY He's another one that should be on the throttle early. He's ran 2nd 3 out of the 4 times at the Distance at Hollywood.
7 RED ALERT DAYFrankel closer will be coming late if the race should fall apart. Has hit the board in 10 out of 13 grass tries (only 2 wins). Working well for his 2nd U.S. start.

8th 6 1/2F MD25K
5 YOUKNOWWHATILIKE Just missed last time out. Makes a slight drop and ads lasix.
1 JUSTALITTLETIPSY Cutting back to 6 1/2 where she just missed on 4/12. Has the rail and sports a bullet coming into this race.
9 GREY CHATELAINE Plunging out of Mdn Sp. Shades on and worked a bullet coming into this race. Tyler B will probably try to go wire to wire with this 3 year old filly that has shown speed in the past.
10 COATCHECK GIRL Dropping from the 32k level where she didn't run badly. Thinking she will be in a stalking position at a nice price.

13 WHERE'S MY LIMO Haven't decided if I will use this 3 year old. I will see how the night is going and if there are any scratches. This would be strictly a hunch trainer play and nothing else more.

$1 late 4
2,4
2,6
2,7,8
1,5,9,10
2x2x3x4=$48
It looks very chalky to me, Hopefully I can make it to that last race where I can maybe get a price.
Good Luck.

Yes, that was totally cool....I tried to convince my wife I was a star but she didnt buy it. I IM'd Steve to let him know my appreciation. Although, while I only play Cali tracks I actually live in Lexington, KY. I am spending the extended weekend at Litchfield Beach in South Carolina......life is rough.

See you guys tonight...looking forward to it.

I stayed at Litchfield Resort on my honeymoon....nice place and great package deal. Played Caledonia, Int'l Tour, of course Litchfield and a couple others.

Race 2

With 4 of the 10 starters coming out of the April 26 first race, the replay is a must view. Interestingly run race. I've watched it 5 times and still can't make up my mind.

This race is a b$tch, it is hard to decide what to do with it.

In the 1st, I almost feel like the 2 has a shot because 3 and 5 seem to know no other way but to be on top and it doesn't look to me like either can rate, the 1 may get hooked up in a 3 way battle leaving the 2 to pick up the pieces. I am wondering if the 3 is good enough to clear this field and hang on.

The 2 definitely has a big shot. The other three could knock each other out and the 2 could stroll home. I initially was going to play ALL in the first, until I saw the 2nd and the 4th. Yikes.

MaTH716 05-22-2009 07:51 PM

I agree with you both. I originally thought the 4 was the closer to play, but now it's the 2 by default.

That is really funny, I was thinking the same thing, said to myself 4 horse race might as well hit all. Then I read the second and that theory was pretty much dead. Then I got the fourth and it became clear that I have to try to take some kind of a stand in the first.

By the way, in the fourth I really like the 1 at 10-1, dropping back to 40K, turf to synth, cutting back, blinks on, think this one looks live.

I like the 6 as a longshot play in the 4th. Nick Pappagiorgio isn't so good with firsters, but this one's dam broke her maiden in her first race at DMR and the sire is winning with 14% of his firsters. Works pretty good, maybe...

I'm counting on one or more of the firsters to go with your 1 and if he gets pressured on the front, I'm expecting him to fold his tent.

I just watched it about 5 times and the thing I noticed the most was how game the 2 (he was the 3 on that day) was. Not a great trip, about 4 wide and he looked like the winner at one point in the stretch until he was interfered with and had to steady. I have to rework the ticket and get him in. I thought that the 1 (5 on that day) ran well also.

I don't think Izzy was going to catch Seeuat if they went around again. He was definitely bothered, but I think he was in the process of flattening out. I thought he looked a tad green and would benefit from blinks. Or, I have no clue what I am watching, which is a distinct possibility.

I'm also banking on the 1 either having to gun to clear or not liking being on the inside with plenty of speed to his outside. My first run through had all four from that race on my ticket, but I had to pare it down.

That is the reason why I can't see myself going less than 5 deep there. I feel like any of the 1,2,5,7,9 could win the race, but if they let the 1 go, he will be dangerous at what hopefully will be a price. Structure is key with this early pk4 play.

I keep coming back to the same thing. The #5 has never passed a horse, the #3 has, and looks to be the class of the race. However, if all three are pressing for the lead, does this just set up for the #2 to pick up the pieces.

I would love to get through the 1st with a single...

This has been the troubling part for me going through this sequence. . . .

I feel the same way, I just feel like the 2 and 3 have the best shot, but I can't rule out the 5 and if I use 3 horses in a 4 horse race the one I don't use is a lock to win!

MaTH716 05-22-2009 08:29 PM

I'm going to stay close to my original ticket.
2,5 (try to beat Rosario)
3,9
2,3,5 (adding the 2 on the drop with the constant 70 Beyers)
1,5,7,9
$48 bucks.

dean smith 05-22-2009 08:29 PM

Early P4:

1) 3
2) 1,2,3,5
3) 2,3
4) 1,7

$16

Chalky budget play for me here. I'm very inexperienced with Pick 4s.

beemerhauler 05-22-2009 08:31 PM

My play for the Hollywood early P4, 2/349/39/61 with a $2 ticket = $24

dean smith 05-22-2009 08:34 PM

If I decided to go a more aggressive route, does anyone have an opinion on the 7 as a single in the 4th?

Sometimes I just need talking out of doing stupid $hit...

dean smith 05-22-2009 08:35 PM

Like killing Jacob.

ARyan 05-22-2009 08:38 PM

Here is my shot;

1: 2
2: 3,4,9
3: 2,3,9
4: 5,7,8,9

Why would you all of a sudden single a horse that you don't even have on your original ticket?
That being asked, I personally think that is the race where you probably have the best chance to spread and get a price.

dean smith 05-22-2009 08:40 PM

I have the 1 and the 7 on my original ticket. I'm talking about the 4th race.

dean smith 05-22-2009 08:42 PM

But I understand what you're saying. Why get cute, right?
