Much respect to Mine That Bird

Ran his ass off, and would've caught the filly if the race were another sixteenth. I thought he was done in midstretch but he kept coming. Great, great race.

Sightseek 05-16-2009 05:27 PM

Agree.

How far back was everyone else?

How wide was he at the top of the stretch?

irishtrekker 05-16-2009 05:28 PM

Admittedly, I don't know much, but I think he doesn't deserve the comparisons to Giacomo anymore...

Sightseek 05-16-2009 05:28 PM

and a big THANK YOU to Jess Jackson!

TheSpyder 05-16-2009 05:29 PM

And if they would have kept RA out of the race we'd be looking at a triple crown try. How crazy is that to think about????

Bobby Fischer 05-16-2009 05:29 PM

Tough little horse wow

Same.

Great effort.

Now what happens when the filly actually trains up
to race with the boys...? The two weeks might not
have hurt, but it was certainly not scheduled long term
in her training.

Sightseek 05-16-2009 05:32 PM

Even more amazing, Flying Private made it into the super. :D

TheSpyder 05-16-2009 05:34 PM

and POTN.....calling John White!!!

But how about a little respect for what the filly just did? 13 hole, on the pace every step of the way. She ran her eyeballs out.

No kidding. J.V. was not going to hand that race over to her.

cowgirlintexas 05-16-2009 05:35 PM

Great race! Would have been happy seeing either win. Rachel of course for her being able to prove her greatness and of course Mine that Bird for a possible Triple Crown.

And if only the first 10 finishers weren't entered, we'd have truly gotten to see Pioneerof the Nile's greatness. WHAT MORE DOES HE HAVE TO DO?!

PPerfectfan 05-16-2009 05:35 PM

Holy Crap, I think I almost broke my foot jumping up and down as they turned for home!!! And Calvin said she really didnt handle the surface! She is one bad you know what!!! :{>: Thank you Mr. Jackson !!!! And I will admit, I gotta give props to Bird Poop, he ran a hellava race!!!:D

tiggerv 05-16-2009 05:35 PM

Both horses ran great. Very enjoyable race.

Musket Man also should get some credit too. I keep tossing him and he keeps cashing checks.

Gauchos0522 05-16-2009 05:35 PM

Amazing how race tactics can change a horse that much...Good for him running his butt off

She ran well, but she's gonna get all of the press and it was more expected that she'd run well. Just wanted to give some burn to the Derby winner no one respected.

;)

That's pretty embarrassing, pushing her out late in the 1st turn and on the backstretch like he did, but, then again, Johnny V stopped riding anywhere near the rail years ago.

Yeah I saw that right away, but it should have been expected. She showed the boys how to run like a girl!!!!:D

He's really honest but had a perfect trip today as well, scooted right up the rail.

pgardn 05-16-2009 05:43 PM

This race cleared things up quite a bit unlike
the Derby.

fpsoxfan 05-16-2009 05:43 PM

Very respectable by MTB.......fun race to watch.

ateamstupid 05-16-2009 05:47 PM

People need to cut this "she didn't handle the track" BS out right quick. Only thing worse than making excuses when you lose is making excuses when you win.

_ed_ 05-16-2009 05:48 PM

That was a great performance. And if the filly hadn't been there today, he'd be going for the TC with a massive chance of doing it. This is the horse I laughed at a couple of weeks ago.

He'll be hard to beat in the Belmont.

you mean the filly right?

MTB will be hard pressed to ever beat RA on the square.

Agreed....They all ran on the same track

pointman 05-16-2009 05:50 PM

Rachel Alexandra ran a great race, on the muscle the whole way, much respect! But I have to admit that I was wrong about Mine That Bird who was very impressive here (even if he broke up my exotics and cost me thousands of dollars), he validated his Derby and showed that he is for real.

Then there is Pioneeerof . . . ha, ha, ha, ha!!!

I don't think she'll get the Belmont distance.

Was it me or was that time very slow, on a day when the times were pretty quick?

Storm Cadet 05-16-2009 05:56 PM

Three weeks of great pre race interest in the Belmont...great for racing!:D

Makes the Belmont relevant this year!

King Glorious 05-16-2009 05:58 PM

There's no reason in the world for her to be at Belmont. None.

Gotta give Mine that Bird respect now. I thought the Derby was a fluke and expected nothing today. He ran a nice one and deserves respect now.

Musket Man is a really nice horse. I said after the TB Derby that he'd be among the top members of his class and he's making me look smart.

As smart as he's making me look, Friesan Fire is making me look just as dumb.

I don't care if you like Pioneer or not, you have to admit that he's better than what we saw today.

Maybe.. Just not on the dirt.

On synthetic, sure. But we've heard crowing for months about how great he's going to be on dirt, and he sucks on it. There are plenty of horses that are better than what we saw today.

eajinabi 05-16-2009 06:03 PM

nice race riding by johnny v to come out like that and prevent a slew of horses to take the lead. RA was very cool about it but the other three lost the race at that point

So you don't think on dirt he'd be better normally than a horse like Luv Guv? Plenty that are better than they showed today? Like whom? The only ones that seem to be better than what they showed are Pioneer and Friesan Fire and since that's back to back horrible ones for FF, he may not be better.

It's you. Time was square. 1:55.0.

You have to go to the Schaefer (4th) for the previous dirt route.
