From spokesman Jim Gluckson minutes ago..

jms62 04-29-2009 02:41 PM

Remember to include the Euros in all bets!!

VOL JACK 04-29-2009 02:50 PM

Great....after POTN wins the triple crown he'll have the BCC on his home turf.

Antitrust32 04-29-2009 03:08 PM

bummer :(

Danzig 04-29-2009 03:09 PM

too bad

The Indomitable DrugS 04-29-2009 03:10 PM

Why Santa Anita again?

HaloWishingwell 04-29-2009 03:12 PM

It's not only the fact of Santa Anita back to back. Those idiots shouldn't run the Breeders Cup back to back on synthetics. Maybe if I throw enough dog sh it on my backyard I can get it awarded next year.

The Indomitable DrugS 04-29-2009 03:14 PM

I think he means back to back to back at Santa Anita?

They are doing an amazing job of ruining the Breeders Cup.

pointman 04-29-2009 03:17 PM

Have they renamed it the Breeders Cup Turf World Championships yet?

The Indomitable DrugS 04-29-2009 03:20 PM

Why not just run it in Europe or Japan?

That would be a FAR better idea than another year of Santa Anita.

philcski 04-29-2009 03:22 PM

Meh. Boo.

Antitrust32 04-29-2009 03:23 PM

The NTRA and The Breeders Cup are like Freddie Mac and Frannie Mae

HaloWishingwell 04-29-2009 03:25 PM

I guess my bets have been their bailouts

Yeah - they are sharp.

If Curlin hadn't been sacrificed up to run in the BC Classic last year ... there is probably no way they'd have considered a 3rd straight year out there.

Japan is sounding like a brilliant place to have a Breeders Cup card at all of a sudden.

santana 04-29-2009 05:40 PM

I wonder why Belmont is out of the loop? And also Lone Star.....

I am pretty sure that Belmont was not in contention the last few years because no one was sure who was going to get awarded the contract to run the tracks. Now that it has been straightened out, NYRA will likely be back in the bidding for future BC's.

Scav 04-29-2009 08:14 PM

I know people are bitching but I sure had a hell of a time last year and really looking forward to going back to LA for three days again, then going to Vegas for four days, and then to San Fran to see the Bears play Thursday night :)

Indian Charlie 04-29-2009 10:34 PM

Uh, people.

It's returning to SA THIS year, not next year.

There was some question for awhile as to it being moved to CD because of Magna issues.

It's not being moved for 2009. That's all.

I some of you guys dont like it, but like you Scavs, I am very happy its at S.A. this year. Get to spend the week on the backside seeing everything up close. The horses are the most exciting thing, heck I might not even make it around to the frontside!

Why not:

Del Mar
Keeneland
Arlington
Saratoga

A Saratoga BC would be awesome.

A Del Mar BC would be a handicapping nightmare.

right. but there had been rumors that they might not have it this year due to magnas bankruptcy.
knowing the best handle, by FAR, is when it's at churchill, you'd think they'd just keep it there.
churchill still supposed to get it in '10? if so, i'll make plans to go.

I think we have been through that already. I believe the answer was that it's just not feasable/worth it for NYRA to uproot everything during the fall championship meet at Belmont to relocate at Saratoga for 3-4 days of racing. Not to mention that Belmont is much more capeable to handle the huge crowds of BC weekend.

Keeneland doesn't have the capacity for a BC. Cram in 25K and things are not comfortable there. And no infield.

Too small at Toga...Too cold at Arlington wasn't it? Monmouth worked out well. Most formful BC. EVER. Even in the rain the best horses still won.

I really wish they would give Monmouth another chance. Only for selfish reasons for me, because it was really difficult to enjoy the days due to the extremely poor weather.

....agree, santa anita is tired.....that proride stuff sucks......i wish it was churchill or belmont.

booner 04-30-2009 06:49 PM

I was hoping for a move. Don't like it at Santa Anita again.

I do hope Monmouth gets another chance. My wife and I liked the track and area; it would be great there if the weather cooperates.

Looking forward to CD again in '10. Can't wait for it to return to Belmont. Definately have to make that trip and check it out.

As for Keeneland, they did hire a consultant to look at redesigning/remodeling the grandstand area to increase capacity and open up the possibility of hosting a BC. I think it is the same firm (HOK Sports) that was involved with the redesign at Ascot. But with the economic downturn, those plans may be on hold for a while.

i wonder if monmouth would be interested? they lost money hosting it a few years ago. might be more trouble then it's worth in their opinion.

Espn announced 2010 BC at Churchill Downs.

But how much money was lost due to the weather?

Granted, it would be a chance for Monmouth to host again. IF the rains came again, it would be a disaster for them.

Unfortunately where the track is located, its just a logistical nightmare. It's really one road in and one road out. Traffic was an absolute nightmare and that's with the attendance being less than they were expecting. I'm not sure how much if any that factors in. The place looked wonderful, but unfortunately the weather didn't cooraperate.

but was attendance low due to weather, or due to location? churchill has the ability to draw a crowd like none of the other tracks have(where the crowd is, the money follows)-why they don't just keep it there, i don't know.

also, a lot of the money isn't 'lost', it goes directly to the bc, not the host track.

eajinabi 05-01-2009 12:59 AM

Bring it back to Gulfstream. They have the facilities for it

booner 05-01-2009 03:50 AM

Traffic was pretty rough. We parked at some company's parking lot and took a bus to the track. Leaving was interesting. Freakin' free-for-all getting on one. We just waited until the mad rush was over and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
