The Raiders

Did they really take a guy in the 2nd round who Mel Kiper had rated as the 72nd best player at his position in the draft?

timmgirvan 04-26-2009 12:39 PM

The Raydars are done before they start, and they won't change until the guy at the top is relieved of his duties!

IrishofNDMan 04-26-2009 01:14 PM

as a Niners fan I must thank the Raiders for leaving Crabtree for our taking.

1.Mel Kiper has bottles of hair gel older than
the earth.
2. Mel Kiper rated Cedric Benson
the #1 runner after the Rose Bowl without
taking into account he had a fantastic offensive line
in college and was a huge prima donna.
3. Mel Kiper cannot possibly view every inch of film there is
available.
4. Mel Kiper knows this often times is a gigantic crap shoot
this deep in the draft and if he does not, his hair gel has
entered his brain through his scalp and caused petrification.

The Indomitable DrugS 04-26-2009 04:00 PM

don't you think the Raiders could have got him in say - I don't know - like the 4th round?

Why reach?

Why not? The guy works 2 days a year!

One does not reason with Al Davis
or Mel Kiper's hair gel.
Neither have synapses.

Speed Kills.... and this wide out will stretch the field... with #2's arm. and #20's running style... the field will open up . Plus two different mock drafts had the raiders takin this gentleman from Maryland. Goooooooooo

they were complete idiots for not taking Crabtree.... Like the craziest thing I've ever seen. They will be a complete failure of a team unless somehow they stop being so dumb.

Edit: You know whats so funny about picking Darrius Heyward-Bey in before Crabtree and Maclin (shoot.. Nicks is better than Bey)... is that they guy last year only earned an ALL ACC HONERABLE MENTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the ACC SUCKED last year!!! and had about 600 recieving yards.

Now I believe that Russell has a shot to be a good NFL QB... but come ON now.. Freaking Darrius Heyward-Bey, the fourth best reciever in the draft, at best..... with the 7th pick over MICHEAL CRABTREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The raiders deserve to lose.

Maclin... Was Never asked to catch the ball in the middle of the field. Lets see the Eagles run a west coast offense... good match ?

Crabtree coming of a injury and hasnt run for anyone since the end of the season.
You cant judge a draft for at least two years. So we will see. You can teach anyone to catch, how to catch, run after the catch, but you can't teach speed.... ie the Vertical game

What the phuck were the Dophins thinking taking Pat White 44th? He's a great athlete and a good kid but has no position.

Coach Pants 04-28-2009 10:16 AM

Crabtree is overrated. And Pat White is scary talented.

I say Kenny Britt has more touchdowns next season than Crabtree.

I didnt say the Raiders should have picked up Maclin... though that would have been a much better pick than what they got.. Maclin is just as fast (runs a 4.31 and wants to get down to 4.29). and Maclin has MUCH better hands and put up MUCH better numbers. Also he has Devon Hester return qualities.

And I dont know where you got that over the middle thing.. EVERY draft expert said Maclin is courageous and not afraid to go over the middle..

The Raiders were stupid for not picking Crabtree.. not Maclin.

And Maclin was an amazing pick for the 19th pick. him and jackson compliment each other so much. great draft by the birds.

I dont know... both teams have passing issues. (Titans and San Fran)

Maclin or Nicks will have the most touchdowns of any rookie WR just because of the teams they are on.

White is a stud and a winner... they Fins have a great man and player and he will adapt to anything they give to him.

Its a shame that he wont get a chance to try at QB... (better than Vick IMO as a passer and almost as good of a runner except Vick is faster)

The real question is what year does Mel Kiper think it is with that mop on his head?

Perfect fit for the Wildcat formation, and will be able to be used in a bevy of different ways to throw the defense off kilt.

philcski 04-28-2009 12:03 PM

I think Pat White is the kind of guy you want on your team by all accounts, and personally I think he's a great athlete, but don't you think he'd be available in the 4th round? Or was he more coveted than I thought because he was flexible about what position he plays, unlike other "running" QB's?

Good point about the Wildcat formation.

declansharbor 04-28-2009 12:15 PM

Personally, I think the 44th pick was a tad of a stretch, although if he fits the scheme that you run, it may have been worth the early pick.

Alot of the so called 'experts' were buzzing about him due to the superior Senior Bowl that he had. I think that if he just had a par SB and combine, he may have went in day 2 of the draft.

and on DHBey, look no further than the combine for the reason(s) Da Raiders took him over Crabtree. He excelled in a few of the drills and I guess Al Davis couldnt overlook that. They showed a stat of all of the 40 times of some guys taken by the Raiders, and this guy fit that list to a tee. They dont look for players, they look for speed. This could help to explain their record as of late.

ateamstupid 04-28-2009 12:22 PM

The funny thing is you could take what 2 Dollar Bill said about DHB and picture him (or other Raider fans) saying the same thing immediately after every WR signing by the Raiders since Tim Brown. How have Moss, Porter, Walker, et al, worked out? Why will DHB be any different in that vacuum of incompetence?

throw in the fact that DHB wasnt even good enough to be a first team ACC selection, and he has very questionable hands.. its makes it one laughable selection.

The Bears were planning on taking Mitchell at 49.

poor guy.. bet he would rather be a bear!

Cannon Shell 04-28-2009 01:44 PM

The Mid-American Conference has first-, second- and third-team all-conference teams. Ohio University safety Michael Mitchell did not make any of the three last fall. The Raiders used the 15th pick of the second round on Mitchell.- Peter King

Cannon Shell 04-28-2009 01:56 PM

I asked three GMs Saturday and Sunday where they had Mitchell on their boards. One said he had a seventh-round grade. Two said he had a free-agent grade.
Mitchell is the highest-drafted player of this decade not to have been invited to the combine.
You get the point. The pick of Mitchell, and where he was picked, was greeted with as much incredulity as any pick I remember.

That's BS. They almost certainly were playing a "let's see how dumb these guys are" trick on the Raiders after they saw the DHB pick. Bravo.

I think they took him that early cause they were afraid Bellichick would take him and use him better than they would.
