Stardom Bound out of Oaks

http://www.kentuckyoaks.com/2009/new...bound-out-oaks

WOW! there goes any chance of getting any sort of a price on Rachel...

Pedigree Ann 04-18-2009 02:34 PM

. "She hasn't been quite acting like herself lately, and we felt it was in her best interests to give her a little time off. We will bring her back later this year."

Like I said. Give her some time off and sort out what is bothering her.

zippyneedsawin 04-18-2009 02:34 PM

crap. I was hoping she would burn some money on Oaks day.

Coach Pants 04-18-2009 02:34 PM

She's retired. I'll just make that official for the Oompa Loompa.

The Indomitable DrugS 04-18-2009 02:36 PM

I guess we might now never find out if she's as good on dirt as Largah is.

Agreed. Not that I expected to any kind of a price on Rachel anyway.

it won't matter. her best is behind her. she had a break between the bc fillies and her three races thus far this year-that didn't do her much good, and this won't either. i'd be surprised if she ever ran again honestly.

Karma is a b itch isnt it?

letswastemoney 04-18-2009 02:44 PM

I doubt there's anything wrong with her

ezgoerbaby 04-18-2009 02:59 PM

Another date for Big Brown this year.

translation; "we want NO parts of Rachel Alexandra"

The Indomitable DrugS 04-18-2009 03:07 PM

She had absolutely no shot at beating Justwhistledixie either.

MaTH716 04-18-2009 03:16 PM

Damn you Mike Smith, this is your fault too!

She's acting like herself... I wouldn't be too confident that the time off is going to cure her mediocrity. She ran exactly 1. count it 1, fast race in her career. There are maybe 15 sophomore fillies faster than her. And it's April. She was good at the right time to be juvy filly champ. And hats off to Chris Paasch and the late Charlie Cono for capitalizing on it.

As for a topic more important than IEAH's disappointment, people wishing to show their appreciation for Mr. Cono should consider gifts to the 2 charities with which he was closely associated and to which he gave and left millions... They both are involved in difficult work.

FRESH START.

Fresh Start Surgical Gifts provides free reconstructive plastic surgery and related medical services to disadvantaged children and young people with physical deformities. I believe Chris Paasch told me Cono founded this organization.

Lucky Rachel. Talk about backing into a win.

So if I deduced this all correctly... you would pick RA to win the Derby, but you think SB is better than RA, which would mean you STILL would like SB to win the Derby?

i think he means that since he picked SB way back when, he doesn't want to come off her now. but stubborn hardheadedness isn't keeping him from admitting that deep down he knows rachel is the better horse. :D right king??

freddymo 04-18-2009 04:58 PM

Yeah it's definately a career ending injury..We won't know it officially for a few weeks but clearly she is thru!!!

Unless you're talking about her stylish 3/8ths work against the clock at the OBS March '08 2yo sale... I'm not sure which race you mean.

hoovesupsideyourhead 04-18-2009 05:49 PM

its mike smiths fault he tried to get her to stay on the pace..

It was not a very key race however.

2nd place finisher Dream Empress can't outrun a goat.

3rd place finisher Sky Diva was 3rd beaten 10 lengths at 1/5 odds next time out

4th place finisher Dave's Revenge (beaten all of 3 lengths) has run five times since - never once running a Beyer higher than 70 and never once running better than 4th - including a couple off of the boards in N1X alw races.

5th place finser Persistently is yet to run back

6th place finisher Van Lear Rose is yet to run back

7th place finisher CS Silk has run three times since. She was beat at even money in Delta Downs stake. Off the board beaten 13 lengths at 9/5 in a GP stake and off the board beaten 18 lengths at 9/2 in a GP stake.

Not exactly the most productive of races ... makes you wonder if they did or didn't speed the track up right before that race.

Kinda sorta. It's not even that deep down. Rachel scares the hell out of me. I would have picked SB and been hoping that something would have kept Rachel from running her race and then I could have come on here looking like a genius saying "see, I told you so." Honestly though, I'm just not that as impressed with the boys as everyone else is and I do think that those two girls are better.

i'm very impressed with rachel alexandra. as for stardom bound, i've never seen whatever it is that you saw in her. i thought she was a horse who was good at the right time, namely earlier than the rest of the fillies.
i'll be surprised if SB ever runs again..if she runs again, i'll be surprised if she wins.

There was nothing to see, so you didn't miss anything. She simply developed quicker than a bad group of horses, clearly excelled on synthetic tracks, and received one great pace setup after another.

She didn't move forward at all this year and is best kept on the sidelines for a while. I can't imagine she'd ever finish in the upper half of the Derby field in a year like last year.

The Indomitable DrugS 04-18-2009 11:12 PM

I agree with most - but I don't think she was recieving big setups. She does have a very nice sustained 3f burst as evidence by what she did at OBS and that's a big deal on Pro-ride especially

Evita Argentina is the only one that has done ANYTHING out of that race besides Stardom Bound.

The Indomitable DrugS 04-18-2009 11:22 PM

Yeah - and that was EA's only career route try. Her own trainer said he felt she's a closing sprinter .. and judging by her 4th at 3/5 odds in the Beaumont last out - she's probably not a dominant one either.

She was spinning her wheels from the start. Might be one of the few synthetic monsters that actually improves going to dirt. I might give her another chance away from Keeneland which clearly has become the graveyard of favorites.

Square Eddie added himself to the pile today. Are Forever Together and Indescribable the only favorites to win a stake this year?
