Please Expound Mr. President

"We will convey our deep appreciation for the Islamic faith, which has done so much over so many centuries to shape the world for the better, including my own country," Obama said.

give him this much.

he probably understands paper wasn't invented less than 700 years ago.

and that egypt wasn't always arab. and, for that matter, arab's aren't all muslims.

it's that kind of subtle nuance that gives him a leg up on numerologists.

since you asked...

http://www.islamtomorrow.com/science2.asp

some excerpts:

Muslim astronomers were the first to establish observatories, like the one built at Mugharah by Hulagu, the son of Genghis Khan, in Persia, and they invented instruments such as the quadrant and astrolabe, which led to advances not only in astronomy but in oceanic navigation, contributing to the European age of exploration.

Ibn Sina (d. 1037), better known to the West as Avicenna, was perhaps the greatest physician until the modern era. His famous book, Al-Qanun fi al-Tibb, remained a standard textbook even in Europe, for over 700 years. Ibn Sina's work is still studied and built upon in the East.

i did a search when i saw you ask. quite a lot of info out there. if you really want to know what they've contributed, there seems to be quite a bit. as for any one list of everything, i didn't find that. but i didn't realize muslims 'invented' algebra, that most modern medical instruments are almost exactly like the ones invented by a muslim, or that the taj mahal was built by a muslim.

I remember from some history class that Muslims in Spain and Portugal were terrorized by Christians and forced to convert or leave or be killed and many sailed with or following Columbus to the US and were part of the early settlers.

And do you really think Obama would make a statement like that and not be able to back it up? He had to know that would be Viagra like to Fox and the right.

And I'm playing 666 in the Pick 3 and PowerBall today

Someone suggested that I call them the devil and be done with it.

as for deranged... you just don' get my humor.

When it's a brilliant strategy, I'll defend it.

and aren't you the pot-kettle-black of those who defend him?

Come on...NOTHING he does you will ever agree with. At least I can list things I don't agree with him on...National Healthcare, the Vet Insurance Bill, the Estate Tax..

Come on it is easier to find things you don't agree with.

There just isn't anything... I prefer Pepsi over Coke.

so in the past week, Vermont and Iowa have legalized gay marriage..

thats pretty awesome. Just 46 states to go! I'm liking this CHANGE eventhough Obama isnt the one doing it.. I have a feeling him being elected at least helped spark this (tho I know Obama is not for gay marriage).

Its just funny reading the comments from fox news and cnn on this.

Fox news: Thats sick, child molesters and fag.s can marry

God hates America now.. be prepared for the rapture

The Bible says fag.s are so bad.

Those poor homo's need Jesus.

CNN : I'm a Christian and I'm so happy that Vermont did the right thing
today. God says love everybody and dont judge. Congrats to my
fellow Vermont friends and neighbors who can marry now!

Yay for Vermont! Equality for all!

Lets hope this helps California overturn prop 8!!

Sometimes I am so embarrassed to have and support conservative views.(tho I do not and have never supported conservative social views) so many conservatives come across as nutcases. And then they throw the Bible into everything (when it helps their case of course). And then they wonder why they are basically out of power right now.

Congrats America on taking a few steps in the right direction when it comes to this issue!

Seriously, that's 4% of the country in a week...hell, at this rate, we'll be getting married everywhere, indoctrinating children, eating babies, ruining all heterosexual marriages, jailing all Christians, making everything fabulous and causing the collapse of the USA by Christmas!!!!

No, mostly just an off-topic swerve.

But depending on who you ask, both sets are hell-bent on destroying the United States, and I believe the gays just stuck their neck in front in that race. So maybe not so off-topic.

Thank you for the information , I have put it in a special file in the memory banks of my brain.:)

Just to clarify , the guy who wrote the book didnt invent algebra , he wrote a book on it after he travelled to India , algebra was around before then , in fact it hasnt been pinned to one specific person or people as to who invented it .
Just thought you might want to know.

He should say , we know that all Muslims arent bad and want to blow themselves and everything up, it just seems that way to all the normal and logical people in the world , so how about you control your bad guys like your women.

What in the wide wide world of sports does gay marriage have to do with the frikkin Constitution?
