Trivia Question
I was discussing some horses from the past 30 or so years today with a friend at Aqueduct and one of my favorites from the past came up.
This horse still holds a dirt track record at Saratoga when he won a race after making his prior start in Europe ( and probably his only start over there ). Name him. |
Was Leo O'Brien the trainer?
|
general assembly?
|

Jolley trained General Assembly but I don't recall if GA won the Travers in the mud off a victory in Europe
|
I thought Chuck would have known this.

Is Sid Water like Ricky? |

He did beat a horse trained by Leroy Jolley when he set the track record. A fairly well known Jolley horse in fact.

No. |
There are only 4 track records standing from the 70's:
General Assembly; Spanish Riddle; Topsider and Darby Creek Road |

You said 30 years or so ago....only other horse close to that was Winter's Tale. |
I surrender

Quote:
I think we already established that Winter's Tale isn't the horse. |

It took 9998 posts for you to admit you don't know something. |
5083 and we are still waiting

It takes a man as big as Chuck. |

Topsider.
He raced in Europe, I think England, like a week or so before setting the 6 1/2 Furlong record on, I believe, August 1 1979. I think Tilt Up was second. |
Thanks. I didnt remember that but you are a lot older than me
|
Quote:
I always remember Tilt Up because Marty Katz, another racetracker who is sorely missed, had me give him $10 on Seattle Slew's Belmont Day to bet him when he debuted the following week. Marty was strong even in 1977.............Tilt Up paid $4.20. |
