Dubai World Cup meeting runners

It's often difficult to find a full list of the probables for DWC night - so I've created my own and am maintaining it. Feel free to post anything you find that I might not have.

Paco Boy to the Dubai Duty Free and Spanish Moon to the Sheema..

PB is in my mind, the most exciting horse this year. He looked amazing when winning the Prid de La Foret, but surely 9f will be too far for him at this stage of his career. There is still a major doubt about him truly getting a mile.

Looking forward to a "break through" morning (or night) ....been very close during the Carnival.

LETS START DOING THE HOMEWORK :zz:

PatCummings 03-18-2009 06:20 PM

The number of Americans going is fairly typical to past years. DubaiRaceNight.com has the horses listed as well and will have all the updates the week of the race.

my miss storm cat 03-19-2009 10:36 AM

Any idea whats going on with Star Crowned, Pat? I became a fan after he won at Jebel Ali after a 515 day layoff.

Apparently, Brett Doyle informed the HKJC he won't be going to Dubai because of his setback.

Hope he's okay. Any news appreciated.

PatCummings 03-19-2009 12:26 PM

I've seen nothing, but we might get more in the next few days.

my miss storm cat 03-19-2009 07:01 PM

Okay thanks Pat.

DRF...

Edgar Prado has picked up the mount on two-time champion Indian Blessing in the six-furlong Golden Shaheen in Dubai on March 28, trainer Bob Baffert said. John Velazquez, the regular rider for Indian Blessing, has chosen to remain at Gulfstream Park that day to ride Quality Road in the Florida Derby.

(I think that's Paris perfect coming in 2nd...)

Did he actually win the Peruvian Triple crown? Figured you'd know.

Thanks! :)

PatCummings 03-24-2009 04:02 PM

I don't think he won the Triple Crown - but he won some classics there. Muller moved very well in the morning on Tuesday and stands a real each-way chance, as do most in this field. The Saudis have come with their best hand in years, with shots in multiple races, and they are likely to walk away with some prizes - for sure. I didn't find Joe Louis as striking as Muller yesterday - I could hear Joe Louis coming down the stretch from a furlong away, his breathing was that loud.

PatCummings 03-24-2009 04:03 PM

I will have the post position draw updated on DubaiRaceNight.com almost immediately after it happens on Wednesday, along with my morning line for the races.

Yes, he allmost won the Quadruple Crown, in Peru they need to win 4 Big Stakes G1 races. He won....
2006 : Clásico Derby Nacional (Per-GI) (Peruvian Derby)
2006 : Clásico Ricardo Ortiz de Zevallos (Per-GI)
2006 : Clásico Polla de Potrillos (Per-GI)

And also won.
2006 : Clásico "Luis Olaechea Du Bois" (Per-Gr.III)
An of course the one tha many people are ready has talk about

2009: Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup (SA)
Its a good horse and we must considered in the top 3
:)

Interesting stuff... thank you!

As far as the Triple Crown (thank you, both of you)... do you guys see why I'm confused?! :D

I really don't have the answer (I'm sure someone will know) but I'd assume you'd be able to.

Good luck!

JUST TAKE A LOCK OF THE RIDES FOR JOCKEY "A AJTEBI". HE JUST SAID, THIS IS JUST A DREAM.
BEWARE OF HIM ON SATURDAY RACES :)
Ajtebi rides Happy Boy in the US$6 million Dubai World Cup (Group 1) while his other runners are Soy Libriano in the US$2 million UAE Derby (Group 2), Eastern Anthem in the US$5 million Dubai Sheema Classic (Group 1), Gladiatorus in the US$5 million Dubai Duty Free (Group 1), Dijeerr in the Godolphin Mile (Group 2) - all from Bin Shafya's yard. In the Dubai Kahayla Classic (Group 1), meanwhile, he will ride Amoking for Al Raihe.

"I am already over the moon. It is a dream come true. In fact, once we started doing well in the Carnival I thought I might get two rides. But this is truly unbelievable," said Ajtebi, speaking to Gulf News yesterday.

He won the Lockinge at Newbury in May but then had a fracture right before the Queen Anne and has been out this whole time.

Wigberto Ramos, there's a name I haven't seen in awhile. The same Ramos from Gulfstream Park fame?

He was a rider that was fairly proficient at Gulfstream during the 80's, one of the more notable horses he rode was Bull in the Heather. From my recollection I do not remember him riding in Dubai and thought he had retired. Good to see he is still kicking around.

Thanks, CSC. I didn't know... didn't follow any of this till Smarty so if it's pre-2004 I'm pretty lost. :D

Asiatic Boy is the one to beat. Anyone give Snaffy a chance here? He going to be a nice price.

PatCummings 03-26-2009 11:21 PM

I think Snaffy has a chance, but so does almost the entire field. I am on the verge of picking a big longshot winner for the race.

Black Seventeen may not run in Golden Shaheen By Bill Barber9.55AM 27 MAR 2009
BLACK SEVENTEEN, a 9-1 chance with Coral for the Dubai Golden Shaheen at Nad Al Sheba on Saturday, is a doubt for the Group 1 race.

Trainer and co-owner Brian Koriner said a "game-day decision" will be made as to whether the horse will run due to concerns about the five-year-old, who has missed some training this week.

"We want to do right by the horse," Koriner said. Although he came onto the course on Friday morning, exercise rider Colleen Hartford got off his back after he left the track and hand-walked him back to the quarantine barn.

"You never want to see the exercise rider leading a horse off the track," Koriner added.
