Derby Tickets

I just got a ticket order form from Twin Spires for the Oaks and the Derby. It looks like I've got two tickets for each in Section 125 (bleachers along the stretch, before the wire). It will be a thrill of a lifetime if I can make it. Unfortunately, my wife is due to give birth in late April.

In the event I cannot make it, how movable are these tickets, what do you think would be the best way to move them (possibly last minute), and what would they go for?

They are moveable....

I got an order form today also. Section 124 1st row both days. Not sure if I am going or not but better seats then last year, if it doesn't rain out.....

Well before the wire.

Very movable.

That depends on whether or not you are trying to make a profit. People are always buying, and they post ads in the paper all month.

Depends on the market. Prices are all over from one year to the next. Sometimes 3rd floor clubhouse tickets go for UNDER FACE VALUE.

If you know that week, I'll take them if I haven't found tickets elsewhere.

New Derby Goer In Need Of Help

Derby Trailers
For my 40th birthday, my wife is treating me to my first ever Kentucky Derby. So, I am checking out the tickets. But, I have never been to Churchill Downs. I have found section 124 row A rails seats and 124 row P seats for a price I am willing to pay (450). But, I don't know which is better. Is the rail good or bad? Is it hard to see? Row P is the first eleveated bleacher row (according to web-site). Is this better? Any suggestions would be grately appreciated.

Better seats for same or less available?

John

$450 per seat?

Those are good seats, right at the 1/8 pole. We are in both section 124 and 125 I think. And you will get to be in the range of the crew I am rolling down with. Couple DTers and Chicago guys. :)

Scav, Yes. 450 per. Which row is better A (on the rail) or P up a little bit?

engbloomj 02-21-2009 09:43 AM

Have you sold your tickets? If not, how much are you asking? What row are they in? I am definately going. I am just trying to find tickets for a fair price.

Bigs, if I am going to get $500 a seat, we aren't going to the Derby :) JK

95% of the race you will be watching on a big screen, either behind you or in front of you, unfortunetly, you don't go to the derby to see the race.

The one thing about these seats is that there is NO COVER for them, so if it rains, it will be ponchos for everyone

Yes,unfortunelty the 8 I have are spoken for.

I would wait until they start coming up on EBay, you will find a better price then that

I was just looking on e-bay and the prices are pretty crazy...not that reasonably priced Derby tickets actually exist. :D

$31K can get you a table in Millionaires Row though.

tiznowthegreat 02-21-2009 10:28 AM

I just paid the same price for section 120 row f, so I think if you keep looking you might be able to get a little better or 124-125 for cheaper.

justindew 02-21-2009 11:07 AM

I think $450 per seat is high for that location. Keep looking.

Actually in my strange way of thinking, I think that's a better deal than paying $1,000 for outdoor seats where you could get rained on (and ruin your Derby hat!!!). If you split it 8 ways, the price doesn't look so bad if you want to play highroller for a day. Not that I know 8 people looking to drop $4K Derby weekend. :D

slotdirt 02-21-2009 06:14 PM

Yeah, I paid my PSL for this year for seats that I just got an offer for that would have cost me nothing aside from the face value of the tickets. Fun times.

slotdirt 02-21-2009 06:15 PM

I love row A in that area.

Those are decent,I think.I would rather buy 450 worth of alcohol and watch it on a big screen at a home party where I don't have to wait in line to piss than in that monstrous crowd, but that is just me.

I agree with others that $450 per seat for Section 124 is too high. My prediction is that a few weeks before the Derby on e-Bay, similar seats will go for about $300 each.

10 pnt move up 02-22-2009 09:05 PM

In todays economy I think under face value might be a very realistic deal, stock market might be at 5000 by then.

Here's a deal if you've got a Visa Signature card.

3rd floor grandstand ticket for both oaks day and derby day

$325 plus S/H

can find it at www.visa.com/signature

I looked at the information on the website. This is a GREAT deal for those on this thread looking for 2 tickets. $325 per seat for both the Oaks and Derby in the 3rd Floor Grandstand (which are real seats versus bleachers) is face value without any PSL fee (which is over $1,000). Plus you get a VISA rain poncho.

The only downside is that you can only buy 2 tickets per cardholder and you must have access to a Visa Signature card to pay for the tickets. The website states supplies are extremely limited. I imagine these seats would be somewhere in Sections 322 to 325. With the great price on these tickets, I would suspect the tickets may be mailed out only a week or so before the Derby so that people do not buy and resell them.

Compared to the prices of hotels ($400 for the Econo Lodge?!? :zz: ) Derby tickets look cheap!

slotdirt 03-13-2009 07:51 AM

Ramada Inn in Sellersburg is the spot.

I am staying at the new Holiday Inn on Crittenden Drive this week for work. You can see the Churchill Downs twin spires outside my hotel room window. They still have Derby weekend rooms available for $469 per night. I think the Derby rate starts on Thursday night before Oaks day. Therefore, I am checking out Thursday morning.

slotdirt 04-08-2009 09:22 AM

Question for the masses - has anybody received their tickets yet?

opusone 04-08-2009 09:27 AM

Mine were delivered Monday 4-6. Actually they came certified so I had to go pick them up.

Mine arrived in DC yesterday.

On that note, I have two sets of three tickets for the Derby in Section 124. I'd like to get one set closer to the other set as we have a group of six going. If anybody has seats close to mine and interested in entertaining a trade for three seats in 124 row C please PM me.

slotdirt 04-08-2009 06:52 PM

I'm in 125 A, and wouldn't you know it, the tickets arrived today.

I have not received my tickets yet either. I called Churchill yesterday. I found out that for some reason mine was not shipped. I spoke with a nice guy named "Trevor" and he told me they would be sent out that day. I am really looking forward to getting them. I run to the mailbox every day.

slotdirt 04-09-2009 07:59 AM

That's right, Scav, both days.

tiznowthegreat 04-09-2009 01:54 PM

I have an option for the seats for the same price in either section 222 or 120. I have never been and was curious what people would reccomend

slotdirt 04-09-2009 01:54 PM

Um, 222? That's a no brainer.
