Michelle Wie
Nice start to the year kid - 66 - in the 1st round in Hawaii
Stay focused play your game and go to the whip on saturday and pull away just like a tiger! -4 on the par 5's , just like a tiger! |

the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of Wie is that she is just like Tiger :zz: |
is this SCUNT still news? wtf?
oh wait: this is the place where we have daily love fests for P Valenzuela and numerous horses. what would our lives be without our 'heroes' |
Quote:
she hits the ball by me Lori , if she gets the putter working and sharpens up the shortgame she will kill them par 5's are par 4's for her every week , just like young tiger |
Quote:
What Tiger has that seperates him from everyone else on the tour is his mental toughness. Young Tiger had the same head he has now. Thats why he won 3 US Junior Amatuers and 3 US Amatuers (sp?) when he was young. Wie doesnt have that at all. I'd take someone who hits it 240 (Anneka) and has that toughness over someone who hits it 310 and cant win a darn thing ANYDAY. It doesnt matter what Wie can do on par 5's if she chokes when in position to win. Sorry Marty, she aint anything like Tiger! |
Quote:
she had 3 top 5 finishes in majors in '06 , if she keeps here head screwed on , stays away from the colts there is no telling how much she could win every weeek she will be playing a par 68 course , that's almost 16 strokes over 4 days she has to play with over the field will see this year what happens |
If she stays away from her father, she might stay focused enough to grow into stardom, but that's a big if....

that's a shame as you know she can revitlize a tour that is is need of a superstar |
Playing against males didn't make her worse.
Growing into a college student did. I still want her to try the PGA Tour a couple more times. I don't think she could be or beat Tiger on a daily basis, but she could be an average player on the PGA Tour, which would be a far better accomplishment than winning on the women's tour which no one cares about. |
Quote:
I completely 100% disagree with that. on her GREATEST DAY EVER she couldnt beat Tiger's WORST DAY EVER. Tiger could beat her lefthanded and blindfolded.... (I do realize that you said you dont think she'd beat Tiger... but the thing is, she cant beat anyone on the PGA tour consistantly) Cant even compare men to womans golf. The worst golfer on the PGA tour (actually having his card - i'm sure some girls could beat club pro's) would look like Tiger if he played in the LPGA tour. Anneka tried and couldnt even make the cut. She was smart, and realized that women are inferior to men when it comes to athletic ability. Wie will never be the kind of golfer Anneka is/was. The courses the men play are THOUSANDS of yards further than what the women play. If she played on the PGA tour she'd be lucky if she made 1 or 2 cuts per year... in the tourney's that the top players skip. Its like saying Serena Williams could beat Nadal. Its rediculous. |

I had a friend that made a nice living on the LPGA tour for years. We played a lot of golf together through the years. We always played straight up I beat her as often as she beat me. |

Tennis is different. You rely on strength to hit the ball as hard as you could. In golf, you can rely on strength, but if you are really, really accurate you can make a living as well. Michelle Wie hits the ball about as far as Fred Funk does. Would you find it strange if Fred Funk won a PGA Tour tournament? He's done so enough times with his average 250-260 yard drives. The problem with Michelle Wie is that she is trying to hit it 300 yards in the regular PGA tour, when she should play within herself if she's trying against the men and just hit it 250 down the middle. I really don't think it is impossible for Michelle to be an average player on the PGA Tour. The statistics on women playing golf on the PGA Tour aren't big enough to make a conclusion on whether women can do it. Who has tried? 5 or 6 people? There needs to be a bigger sample than that before you can draw a definite conclusion that no woman can do it. And if any woman can do it, it will be Michelle, as she isn't afraid of the criticism that comes with playing on the PGA Tour. |
Besides that, I like the fact that Michelle flies in the face of conventional wisdom by having goals beyond the LPGA.
She has her dream of being on the PGA Tour, and whether or not she fails, I applaud her for trying. She doesn't let anyone tell her that she's not good enough, and in that sense, she already beats all the other women in my book as none of them think they are good enough. |

Give me Lorena everyday of the week as a superstar to represent that tour as opposed to someone like Michelle. |

Fred Funks short game is only a billion times better than Michelle's. It is VERY impossible for her to be an average player on the PGA Tour. Truth be told she would struggle to be average on the Nationwide Tour. I have spent an awful lot of time around tours and seen some really incredible players. Michelle has the potential to be very very good on the LPGA Tour. People don't realize the disparity between the mens and womens tours. I can comfortably say that in my best years, I could have made a very nice living playing against the caliber on the LPGA. I came close to qualifying for a Nationwide event ONCE. Best I ever did was make a cut on the Hooters Tour.:zz: |

I'm not saying she is good enough at the immediate moment, but I don't believe it's out of the realm of possibility in time if she worked on it. |

No deficiancy, but she doesn't have enough years left on this earth to improve her short game enough to be even average on Tour. The PGA Tour money list from spots 150-250 are filled with guys with the exact same kind of game as Michelle...hit it a long way, hit it solid, but have NO short game whatsoever Gales mentioned Michelles showing in the LPGA majors a few years back. There are guys on the Nationwide Tour that could win the Grand Slam in a single year on the LPGA. The games simply are not comparable. |
Drive for flash and putt for cash right Kev? 2 and 3 putting holes will ruin your score just like missing the green on your 2nd and 3rd shot.
|
Don't get me wrong here, Michelle is obviously very talented. I truly think she was steared in the wrong direction very early on in her career. Yes, she almost made the cut a few years ago at the Sony Open, but that was on her home course that she knows like the back of her hand. Other than that, she has performed poorly in other PGA events she has played in.
|
if she focuses pn the LPGA alone she can be a force , she hits it out by me , 290 - 300
i watched the other girls last year at sybase kev and i could hit 3 wood by all of them she is playing pitch and putt course , heck i shot par at wkygal from the red tees one day as we wanted to see how we could do! |

I agree with you Martin. I just find it hard to agree with the fact she people think she could be average on the PGA Tour. She would find it difficult to break the top 100 on the Nationwide money list. |
Quote:
i know what you mean , i have a friend who is similar to you in abiltiy in tennis serena williamns wouldn't even sniff the top 100 with the men accoridng to him it's all relevant though as she and wie can get paid by just beating there own kind |

Put her in that same tourney this year and she won't sniff making the cut. She didn't know any better when she was 15. And IMO she was a better golfer at that age than she is now. |
2nd place not bad
a little disappointing that she couldn't finish off Stanford , Stanford though played flawless golf on the back and made 3 birdies in a row hold your head high Michelle your day is coming |
Which one she gunna win? Longs Drugs Challenge?

scuds she was clear by 2nd by 3 shots , she lost to the player that finished off '08 as the hottest player on tour / stanford , no shame in that pretty soon she will be a winner , once that hybrid gets under control |
Quote:
She'll win on the LPGA tour. She will NOT be Tiger status dominant on that tour. There are too many player better than her. Laura has a much better chance at Tiger style domination of the LPGA. She will never finish in the top 30 in a mens tourney and she will be lucky if she ever makes even one, maybe two cuts. |
Michelle Wie will cure cancer
