Hialeah in the courts: Go Get 'Em Halsey
http://news.bloodhorse.com/article/49149.htm
This should be fun. I'm not familiar with the property laws in Florida and the deed between Brunetti and the City of Hialeah but I'd imagine Halsey knows plenty about his chances. Anybody familiar with the situation and think it's got enough merit for us to be hopeful? Or are we watching a valiant effort doomed to fail? I can't help but root for them. I also can't help but loathe Brunetti's behavior, so whatever it turns out he's legally entitled to, I know he's not been thinking about what's best for the track or sport. His own pocket, sure...er..kudos, Mr. B? Nah. |
i saw the story. hoping for the best for the track, i'd love to see it up and running again.
i miss the flamingo stakes! |

Halsey Minor may be insane.

i just think out of all the tracks that have had money pumped into them, hialeah deserved it the most. gulfstream hasn't been right since they re-worked the track configuration-most of all, i found it dammed depressing when i saw the pics of hiealeah recently, and saw all the grass growing on the main track. |
Go Halsey! Resurrect Hialeah!
|
This seems like a real longshot though if he makes Brunetti spend money to defend himself it is worth it.
|
^^^I agree. Make Brunetti dig into his pockets and spend some money.
I would love to see Hialeah up and running again, but I will not hold my breath. |

I hope this suit has some legs . I think it may .

i don't know that a lawsuit is the answer. we have so many these days! i want to see that track return to its glory days, but i'm not so sure this is the means to that end.
|
With the sport in it's current state, you all really want to see Hialeah return? Do we really need to spend millions for another track that's going to draw 1000 people a day? Racing is dying not growing.

and the handle may be down-how much of that is due to almost constant disputes over wagering and signals. i heard on steves show the other day that january is down; coincidentally, january was when vegas lost some signals, wasn't it? |

i believe warren buffett said when everyone else gets timid, that's the time to get greedy. now would be the right time, if you have the ability, to make the attempt. plus, what better time to try to compete with gulfstream than now? with the track reconfiguration, and how that affected their 3 yo racing, a viable fla alternative could be a big draw. |

Years later and Brunetti ends up getting the job done and Minor is ruined..
Amazing: http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifest...G4U_story.html |

There's still the matter of quarter horse races vs TB dates right? Will Calder and Gulfstream ever let up on Hialeah's ability to get those? They don't seem to be interested in working anything out. Of course, sometimes it feels like asking to see racetracks working together is a bit like asking to see a unicorn. Will the Flamingo Stakes ever be back on our 2yo radar? |
A great article that must leave us all now knowing how Hialejah and even Pimlico would have been devastated.
