Brian Spencer-Otto's Lotto

Great job Steve giving the space on DT's home page to a wonderful read penned by Brian Spencer on the background of an otherwise forgettable maiden. It really brings home the truth that behind every horse there is a story. Unfortunately, all horses don't have connections as caring as Otto's Lotto, but she has at least one new fan next time she runs.

Hey Brian - nice article. Keep us updated on Ottos Lotto's exploits. While she might not be lighting up any tote boards it sounds like she is in good hands and will have a good home. Thanks

Agreed. Thanks Brian - excellent work

Why would she want to breed this animal? It sounds ridiculous to have more of these running around.

Great Story and better to breed this animal than all those miniature horses all over NW IL that are good for nothing other than a lawn ornament.

Thanks -- and to everyone who's given it a read. I admit it was a totally self-serving piece because I've been fascinated by this horse for a few years now and wanted to know more, so I put my investigation to good use and Steve was generous enough to offer to post it after giving it a read for me.

I'm a little confused too, but there are worse mares being bred in Illinois every year, I'm sure. While she's no star, she's certainly better than he 0-fer record indicates and there are definitely racehorses who have beaten her that I would consider lesser horses. Then again, we're still talking about the very bottom of the ladder here, so maybe it's just nitpicking at that point.

When it was all said and done, I think I found the connections far more interesting and found the way they feel about her far more interesting than the horse herself.

wow Brian, very nicely done, capturing many of the sports emotions.

I love that style, of delving in deeply to the seemingly mundane details.

well done indeed.

Seriously, could've been the match race of the millenium. One of them would actually be forced to win.

And thanks again to everyone who's read it and enjoyed it.
