Booted looks too slow, and likely overbet.

Okay, why is this n2x filly race a G2 stakes? Since when is it as important or historic as the storied Suburban Hcp or the Arkansas Derby? Race grades are fast becoming a joke.

have any good horses won this race, say in the last ten years, did they prove themselves as grade 2 horses over time? You know that races are pre-graded so looking at todays field and commenting on the grade is useless.

Yeah the 2 weeks is quick, but with a trainer like Mandella that in no way shape or form, rushes his horses, he must really think he is ready! I just loved this horse when they got him and I expect big things from him.

I also expect big things from him in the future however Mandella is probably using the San Fernando as a gauge to see how he does well with stakes caliber horses and probably not expecting a win this time. He WILL have this horse fit and ready for the SA Handicap though and then I will be all over him.

he is running him because the owner told him to, that is a fact.

Does anyone have a heads up on whether Fiesty Suances will go at SA or GG ?

best indication i had that he's going to SA is that drf expects him to set the pace in the rafeal...

If a great horse wins a non-graded stakes early on in his career or first off the layoff, does that mean the race is has improved? This is a prep race, a stepping-stone race, and a restricted one (fillies, 3yos) at that. Proverbially, a camel is a horse put together by committee and our race grading process is cobbled together in a similar fashion.

Scratched down to 5... Pretty much becomes a waste of a graded stakes. Once again race fans getting the short end of it.

That seems right cause Mandella does not seem the type to run off just 2 weeks rest.

and the owner is, remember Greelys Galaxy and the campagne they had, same with the Ellis horse who finished fourth in the derby on a weeks rest. In each case the owner said run this horse in this spot, and since the owner buys really nice horses they are not going to say no.

None that I can remember and I have been going to see this race since 1973.

Bobby Fischer 01-17-2009 10:29 PM

1:11 bullet from the gate from a horse you wouldn't have really thought of as a fast horse at all even with the BC win on the soft turf

good training job by biancone , and he worked him a gate bullet before the 7f sprint race where he chased a ridiculous 1:20 and then he wins here today.

The game can be pretty, and ugly in the same light. Good horses and good horseman and good medicine everywhere not just in this case.

Bobby Fischer 01-17-2009 11:06 PM

anyone know what happened to Brother Keith ?

He broke on top in the San Rafael...

I was hoping he would be out front, and then he went wrong somehow...
At first it looked like the jockey was choking him back, or maybe the bit was wrong, and then i thought he was being pulled up to avoid a breakdown...

then at the end he was hard ridden and whipped to get up for 4th.

was he rank early? probably one of those instances where they were trying to teach a horse who wants to run off early how to rate. doesn't sound like he learned that lesson well...

Sad actually and they will be whining about the economy when their handle is down yet they can't even fill the gates for a graded stake. Last year both the San Rafel and Robert Lewis both offered no superfecta.

On HRTV after the race, I believe it was Millie Ball who reported that the she talked to Bobby Frankel who thought that the horse bolted to the outside when he came out of the turn and the sun hits his eyes.
