just read on drf that the new revenue dispute is between the Vegas casinos and Churchill/Magna.
Signal to all their tracks could be cut by Thursday.

would not be good if the racebooks can't take bets on all these tracks and totally agree with SA's president that this would punish bettors.

As a racebook player I really hope that doesn't happen. The casinos already want to make everyone into a slot machine player as it is. I think if it is prolonged some casinos may get out of the racebook market altogether, and that's definitely bad for the sport.

I agree. Go to Vegas at least once/year and always spend at least the last day I'm there in the racebook (perfect way to kill some time until you need to go to the airport).

One of these days someone's going to find out that the more places that have a signal, the more $$ that's bet on the track, the more the track gets in takeout from it, and the more they'll put back into purses for the horsemen. Should be an everyone wins situation... but that's me trying to make sense out of it.

Could the casinos and other on-line outlets.start promoting and feature Euro, Hong Kong. and quality Australian racing. Im sure this is not the solution but would this get Magna and Twin Spires attention?

Whenever SA, Holly, or Del have a carryover, a good portion of dough comes from the Vegas racebooks.

How many Americans are hooked on that(Euro, Hong Kong. and quality Australian racing.) People have to have done well at something to get hooked.

Scott Daruty (TrackNet) says Nevada getting volume discounts they don't deserve anymore... Only 4% of TrackNet's handle in fact. With ADW maturity, Nevada is hardly the simulcast hotbed it was 10 years ago.

Daruty also makes a great point that the Nevada casino consortium is reporting bulk handle figures only, which TrackNet wants detailed by casino.. With no individual breakout reports from the 80 casinos they represent, what if there is unusual or irregular betting patterns going in internally in that bulk figure? There is no way for TRPB or similar body to investigate potential shenanigans if patterns can't be identified.

Finally, he notes they started negotiations in February 2008 in order to prevent an 11th hour situation... yet here it is in the 11th hour.

All the chatter has been about how the casinos are not going to budge because they are in no position to give up on any money. Very unfortunate that it's taken this long.

I'm sure there's some posturing going on, but is it possible for Vegas, the shining beacon in the gambling darkness that has been these signal wars, to be shut out of TrackNet signals?

I've been in the Mohegan Sun racebook late at night before and the only people betting Aussie and other international races are really drunk guys with $12 in their pockets who get confused by the race set up AUS 3A, AUS 3B, etc.
I think there is a market for it, but not enough to make TrackNet budge much...isn't the international route the one TVG took when they started losing exclusivity? Hasn't worked for them.

might be a dumb question, but if they're gonna stonewall vegas is this gonna affect the World Series of Handicapping? Not that i'm going or anything:o

If no deal is reached, Nevada casino bettors would not have access to simulcast wagering from TrackNet-affiliated tracks owned by Churchill Downs Inc. and Magna Entertainment Corp., which are partners in the joint venture. Currently, the TrackNet wagering lineup includes Golden Gate Fields, Gulfstream Park, and Santa Anita Park, which are owned by MEC, and Fair Grounds, which is owned by CDI.

Wagering, not watching the signal- they can book the bets if they want to, but not sure they want to go that route with the majority of their play being exotic wagers...

They would go back to the old day with limits on most wagers, I hope they just settle this thing. I go to Las Vegas 2 to 3 times a year and spend alot of my time in the sports book playing the ponies.

A lot of the casinos that cater to local players would be drastically affected by this. Over the holidays, I was at Green Valley Ranch which is in Henderson, NV (15 minutes from the LV strip) and it was absolutely packed with horse players each day I went.
I've also been to places like Mandalay Bay during the middle of the week in June, and you can hear a pin drop, but for the most part on weekends, there is a lot of action on horse betting.

yes because of the casinos there is no betting on line with a adw service.

I didn't want to start a new thread to just ask this one question, but do folks have an opinion on the best Vegas sportsbook for horseplayers?

i've always thought bally's was horseplayer friendly, ceasar and bellagio are both nice as well. depends on what kind of atmosphere you're looking for

The Hilton is absolutely gigantic and you are treated very well even if you're not a terribly "big" player.

If you're talking on the cheap with a lot of attention paid to horse folks, the Orleans is up there.

Wynn Las Vegas is very horseplayer friendly as well and has the best Derby Future Book action. Book Director is John Avello... Tell him you're there at the suggestion of Richard Eng (Las Vegas Review-Journal) and because you heard him on from Saratoga on 'At the Races' on Sirius. He'll take good care of you.

Agree there... they have sent me many free room offers just for my horse action since I don't play anything else besides an occasional poker tourney... not many other casinos are even interested in getting your action.

It's also one of the nicest hotels in the world. Even though I'm not a huge fan of the atmosphere or decor (a little too Steve Wynn-over-the-top) you can't go wrong there.

Also, there isn't a better cafe in Vegas than Sugar and Spice.

The smallest, most un-caring might be New York New York:(
