i know we are at the half way point

but to me it looks like the Ny Jets have the edge because of the schedule left

if they can win in NE and beat the Bills again in the dump then why not them?

The should go at least 5-3 in the second half. Giving them L's at NE, Tenn and one of the road games vs the NFC west teams either SF or Seattle. You would think that 10-6 should at least get them into the playoffs, if not the division.

If we can get through the next four games at 2-2, we should be in decent shape. If we can go 3-1, we're in good shape.

What I'd love is to beat the Rams and have Buffalo beat New England on Sunday, so we then have a chance to effectively end the Pats' season on Thursday. Would be unfathomably sweet.

Don't overlook the Dolphins is all I'll say. They may be the best of this lot.

Can't look past them this week! They have played well at times. With back to back tough road games ahead, this one is a must. Otherwise you could be 5-6 after the Tenn game, and forced to maybe run the table.

I agree, it's the epitome of a trap game. I think we can neutralize Stephen Jackson though, and the Rams' defense sucks outside of Atogwe and Long. As long as we don't turn the ball over (not a lock), we should be OK.

Bills look like a 9-7 or 10-6 team that could be 1-5 in the division which will kill them in the tiebreakers. With just two division wins they might be alone in first though and if they can beat Miami and NE at home and steal one on the road at the Jets or Pats they are in real good shape. We'll know a lot more after this weekend.

Buffalo is hurting defensively, and opponents are starting to try to let Trent beat them.

McGee should finally be recovered fully which should help. Him not being at 100% the past two weeks has really killed them since McElvin hasn't been able to step up. They actually were moving Whitner to nickel when McGee was out because McElvin has been so useless. Schobel's injury hurts but he's a bit overrated to begin with. Whitner's injury probably hurts the most but fortunately they do have some depth at safety. It all comes down to whether they can run the ball and not turn it over. If they do that they can beat anybody, if they don't do that they can lose to anybody.

They should be a solid 9-7 if Pennington stays healthy. Of course only once in the past five years has that actually happened. Dumbest move of the offseason has to be a tie between the Raiders signing of Deangelo Hall and the Jets cutting Pennington which allowed him to be picked up by a division rival.

Um, not really. There was no one interested in giving up anything for Pennington, and keeping him on the roster with Favre and Clemens wasn't an option. The Jets knew that the Pats wouldn't pick him up and didn't feel threatened by the Dolphins.

They, along with just about everyone, were dead wrong about him and the Dolphins. Miami has a good shot to be 10-6 at the end of the year. If anyone says they saw that at the beginning of the season, they're lying.

I didn't see them as a 10-6 team but did think they'd be 6-10 to 7-9 with the addition of Pennington and thought that addition took them from a guaranteed 2-0 for the Bills and Jets against them to a likely 1-1. Throwing a game away is never smart in a league this competitive. They could have traded him for a conditional 7th rounder to a team that needed a backup. I'm sure Dallas wishes they'd done that at this point.

Chad didn't want any part of being a backup, and in recognition of his contributions to the team, the Jets cut him loose so he could go attempt to find a starting job. Putting that on par with Count Al giving a big contract to DeCancerlo Hall is weird.

Deangelo Hall got paid $8 million this year for 8 games. Total ripoff? Sure, but in the realm of terrible sports contracts it isn't even close. Billy Wagner is going to get $11 million next year to recover from Tommy John surgery. Didn't Keith Van Horn just get $5 million to sign for one day so he could be traded and then waived?

The fact is, regardless of the contributions and what Pennington deserved throwing away football games in the NFL is always a terrible idea. They should have at least taken a few days to test the waters and if there were truly no offers for a conditional 7th rounder that Chad found acceptable then do the right thing and let him loose.

He was under contract and got hurt, there is nothing a team can do about that. Look at all the money the knicks lost on Allan Houston. Plus the NBA is stange, because it's worth teams taking bad contracts (within reason) in their last years to free up potential cap space.

As far as Chad goes, Why would you want to trade for a guy and have to pay him the contract that the Jets gave him, when you could just wait for him to hit the market on bid for him on your own terms. The whole leauge knew he was going to be released. And every team had a shot at him. Basically the Jets did right for a guy who played his heart out for the organization. He was always professional on and off the field, and this is coming from a Jet Hater.

Uh, that's EXACTLY what they did.. The Jets had been testing the Pennington trade waters off and on for months. No one wanted to pay $3 million for a backup, Chad wanted to start, and he didn't want to take another pay cut. Chad had no future in the organization, even before the Favre trade, but out of gratitude, they put him on the open market rather than trade him somewhere he didn't want to go.

Like I said, I didn't see anyone calling it "the dumbest move of the offseason" at the time, because everyone figured the Dolphins would suck and were in rebuilding mode. Now because they're good, the move looks bad. Hindsight is 20/20, but the Jets' hands were tied and I'm fine with what they did.

Considering there were pre-draft rumors that if the Jets drafted Matt Ryan they would have dealt Pennington to Baltimore for a 2nd or 3rd round pick I have to imagine they could have found someone willing to pay $3 million for him in exchange for a 7th rounder. He was released the same day they got Favre so it isn't like they shopped him around at that point when people knew they would dump him for anything.

You're not listening. The Jets had been shopping him around since last season ended, but no one wanted a guy off two shoulder surgeries with a $3 million salary and a need to start. The only reason they didn't cut him before the Favre trade was because the jury was out on Clemens, and because Clemens was disappointing in training camp. Chad had absolutely no future with the Jets, and it was clear that no one wanted to trade for him. I still don't understand what you think they should've done.

I didn't see any of those Baltimore rumors and they sound like bullshit.

I took my son Ice Skating, so I saw no early football. I put the game on in the car and I heard the Clemens was in. I just figuered that Farve got hurt. Never for the life of me did I think that the Jets could score 47 against a college team, let alone another NFL team. But I give them credit, it sounds like they played a very strong game going into the teeth of their schedule.
They have a great shot to be at least 10-6 and probably host a playoff game. Things are looking very good for Gang Green(for a change), now lets hope (or I should say you hope, cause I couldn't care if they never won another game ever again) they could manage a spilt on the road in the next two weeks.

We will see how far they have come the next 2 weeks.

I agree though, it was nice to see them put two good games together, but if we get handled by New England again, it'll be one step forward, two steps back.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Thursday should be armageddon.
