Dodgers in Series would overlap Cup

Just occured to me to check the World Series schedule figuring that if the Dodgers made it, the NL games might be played out West when I was there for the Breeders' Cup...

Sure enough, Game 3 would be at Chavez Ravine on the night of Day 2 of the Cup. Point being, if the Dodgers are in the Series, how many in Los Angeles will pay much attention to the BC?

2008 WORLD SERIES SCHEDULE:

You're giving L.A. too much credit for caring about anything in sport (except Scuds, of course.)

Tampa is no problem. Boston is not easy though we may have a backdoor there.

I can.....but I won't be going out West and I'm pissed that apparently I can't go to Fenway either.

Then again, maybe it will be Phili-Tampa. I do know one thing.....this entire post makes me want to make a huge bet on the Phillies.

As sick as it makes me feel as a Met fan, I think this is the Phillies' year.

I'm rooting for them the rest of the way. The fans in Philly deserve it. Anybody that would actually pay money to see a baseball game at the Vet should have had a championship ages ago (kind of like Shea  ).

I wouldn't bet too much on any Philly sports team in a playoff series and/or championship game.

The Indomitable DrugS 10-08-2008 10:06 AM

I read the first post where Ateam blamed the manager because a major leauger couldn't manage to drop a bunt.

Randy Moss not only would have been able to lay down a simple bunt and save his manager from undue BS - but he also might have been able to beat it out for a single with his Commentator like speed.

And I mean the white Moss this time.

I think I hold the Erie County record for strikeout to at-bat ratio .. but I've never whiffed on a damn bunt attempt.

They would have walked Moss, too much plate coverage.

Isn't that from racing fans though? I don't think the general public gives a rat's ass about the BC. The racing fans will come, the others won't. If attendance is down this year it is probably due to the apathy for the synthetic that is leading to a lot of people not making the trip out from the east coast.

I suppose you get fans who are sports fans who go to big events and maybe you lose them because of the Dodgers (though they are far from a lock)

I hope for the sake of the sport that those fans actually exist but outside of the Triple Crown races I'm kind of skeptical that they do.

In your opinion, they weren't gunna be around long against the Cubs, either. It's a good match-up for us. Certain teams are better for us than others. One thing I guarantee is I ain't gunna btch if they get beat. They've been great, and I appreciate how far they've come. If we can't get there, that's the team(Phils) I would have liked to see get there. Both organizations were overdue for some luck.

Remember, we have Ryan Madson! :D

Home field advantage will play a HUGE role in this series IMO. The Phils rely on the long ball, as they are one of the worst small ball teams in the game. This year, when they played in LA, a few of those long outs would have been dingers at The Bank.

I am very eager to get this thing going. God bless my brothers old yellow Aramark jersey. Yes, im going the cheapo route, and wearing it to get in free. They shipped in alot of new workers from DC/Baltimore area for the Brewers series, and assume they will be doing the same for this one. Lots of new faces.;) My brother Danny got in free to game 2 using the jersey. Pretty hilarious.

Yeah, Madson was dealing, and Charlie took him out. That was stupid. Gave us that game. You haven't faced us with both Manny n' Furcal. Hamels is pitching better now, though. We know we got to get to the other guy(Myers ) early on. I can see the series going either way, but your starters will have to pitch great. Our starters will be tough if they get any early runs. We still got a bad taste about the last 2 games in Philly. We don't like that memory. That was the 3rd-4th loss in our 8 in a row losing streak. We didn't like that. That memory is fresh as fkn Downy. We are hungry for Philly. If we lose, it won't be because we can't get our emotions back up from the previous series. We've been waiting to play you again. We blew the great game that Kuroda threw against you. We'll be up to play you. It should be a war. All tune in. We got a score to settle.

You dont think that ticket prices will stop some from attending the races live?

Parking, General admission, program, racing form and you're down almost 50 bucks with no place to sit. That will keep alot of local players home.

brockguy 10-08-2008 06:43 PM

A lot of ifs but if the dodgers and red sox got to the world series and I had a decent breeders cup, I'd pay quite a bit to go to a world series game.. I'd have to bring scavs though with that cubs cap..

infield_line 10-08-2008 06:55 PM

Interesting Question Regarding Demographics...

how many hardcore racing fans are also hardcore Dodgers fans...?

I think the order of magnitude between the two populations is the issue... 100,000 in the LA area that would go to BC if they were offered tickets... vs. 1 - 2 - 3 million who would go to the WC if offered tickets?

Not trying to rain on racing's parade here.... but very different worlds

I/L

They aren't really ever a lock to do anything, but that's why they are so much fun to watch(excluding Cub worshipers Scavs n' Hooves.) What did they do? Lose 8, and then win 8(and 12 of 13.) I never have really been much for going to the B.C. I bet it, but I don't think there is any comparison between going to the B.C., and going to a World Series game. It's like comparing Swiss Chocolate to a Pixie Stick. If they are both on T.V., then they are a lot closer in entertainment value. I'm gunna watch the B.C. until the game starts. Maybe it will be over by the time the game starts. I went to the 1st B.C. (at HWD Park.) It was just o.k. Got into a fight with my dad's friend about what the call should of been on the Classic D.Q. I might have gone to another(not sure.) Doesn't touch my insides like it must do with some other people.

Yes, I am pumped. Seems like we've been waiting a long time for these youngins to come correct, and finally they put it all together against the Cubs. Martin, Kemp, Ethier, Loney, Billingsley, and Broxton are all good young players that came up in 2006. They always seem to f it up somehow. That's been more than a little frustrating. To see them all play well at the same time is an absolute blast. I'm still totally amazed that Broxton closed them out that way. I thought we might hold on, or something(maybe win in extra innings.) Like he usually does(walks, base hits etc...skate by,) but fatboy was throwing strike after strike. Believe me, when that ump's hand kept going in the air, that crowd was stunned. We are lucky Martin didn't hurt his back(cuz he tried to pick that fatboy up.)

I give him credit for being very, very patient. He lost a lot of regular season games by giving pitchers an extra day of rest here n' there. He managed this team as if he knew it was gunna win the division. He managed his pitching staff so they would have something for the playoffs. After Manny got here, we won the final 2 games(SAT. n' SUN.) of a 4 game series against the D'BACKS. Then we went to St. Louis on Tuesday. That guy refused to put anybody good in late in that game to try to win it. He just gave that game away. He refused to use either Broxton or Kuo. This is with like 48 hours rest, and 72 hours rest. He managed this team for October. I don't know how he knew the D'BACKS were gunna struggle. It's as if he didn't want to make the post unless he had the pitching a certain way(something left.)

Merlinsky 10-08-2008 10:56 PM

Did they make people buy tickets for both days of the BC? Just seeing Zenyatta's worth the price of admission on Day 1.

Admission is $3 at Saratoga and you can bring in your own beer and sit out with friends and family. And I think I remember admission being free at Keeneland. That is a very different crowd than the crowd that is going to dish out $50 for general admission. The people willing to pay $50+ aren't going to change whether or not the Dodgers are in the World Series.
